Hi, can anyone who speaks Chinese confirm that SAIC has bought the Rover brand. According to www.mg-rover.org it's being said that the Shanghai daily is reporting this in todays paper???

We Brits are kind of interested in knowing what SAIC and Nanjing are doing with MG/ Austin and Rover as we are forming a queue to get our hands on some new ones. So if anyone hears anything about these car makers could you please post it as we are still working on learning Mandarin....(may take us a while) :)

This forum is great by the way! All kinds of Chinese car makers we have never heard of and some very promising looking cars. But I guess from our point of view Nanjing and SAIC are the car makers with the cars we really want in Europe!!!!!

Nanjing have MG brand, but as far as I understand SAIC did not get any brands. Rover was witheld by BMW because LandRover's new owners didn't want the risk of someone creating confusion.

If SAIC win the war, your new Rover will be badged either as Ssangyong or a chinese brand which has yet to be unveiled but will likely have something to do with shanghai (the shanghai people are a bit proud like that).

well, actually SAIC only bought the rights to produce MG75 & 25 model.
however, Nanjing Automobile Corps bought MGR Com. which including MG and PTL.
