Admin 11-18-2006, 03:15 PM this DFM sportscar is a little to 'over the edge' for my liking:(
hello 11-18-2006, 04:19 PM it looks like a toy car with fake gadgets on it
nice, it has an accordion in the back.
Is this a joke? :nono:

Alfist-GTV6 11-25-2006, 11:02 AM You're joking right?
For which kind of people is this car (if it's gonna be produced)?
Polka-fans?
mg-zs 11-25-2006, 11:36 AM Thats one ugly car

Dongfeng is out of its mind.
mg-zs 11-25-2006, 03:21 PM They can't be serious
dragin 11-25-2006, 03:44 PM Not to worry.....
This is a new concept in hybrid vehicles. It uses compressed air to supplement the gas engine. When the spoiler at the rear is pushed downward it collapses the YELLOW BELLOWS and creates a chamber of compressed air. After the pressure is spent the driver knows it because he can't see out the back window anymore, and so he gets out and pushes downward on the spoiler again.......and so it goes.
It's sure to be a big hit with the earth-friendly crowd.
Admin 11-25-2006, 04:01 PM but there is a niche market in japan for this design, some japanese like funky, toyish designs

So it's a compressed air hybrid. Never heard of that before. Nothing wrong with selling chinese cars in Japan. japanese cars have been selling in China for 15-20 years now.
superidler 11-25-2006, 09:03 PM but there is a niche market in japan for this design, some japanese like funky, toyish designs
But it's not all about only looking... According to the news, it costs about 3,000,000 Japanese Yen in china. Look.. these car will be even cheaper than this DFM's car in Japan...
http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-lineup/integra/type/index.html
Integra type R costs 2,730,000 Jp yen
http://toyota.jp/mr-s/grade/grade/index.html
MR-s V edition 2,289,000 jp yen.
Well, when I read this from korean yahoo, it said it's 10% cheaper than its class in Japan. I don't know what car they were comparing to. Perhaps, skyline(is this car RWD?)? hmm...
Anyway, what I want to say... it's not small money for japanese as well and I don't think they would expect only experior aspect....

hybrid? The news was saying the car use 2~3ltr Mitz engine... Then, I think we can't expect a good fc with this size of engine compare to other hybrid.
So, is it designed to provide the power of v8 at V6 fc or V6 at v4 fc?

But Japanese buyers are very reluctant to buy foreign cars (except luxury vehicles), Hyundai only sold 3,000 units last year. Plus, the car looks very Korean (not that thats a bad thing, though designwise, it can be) and is kind of overdone.
superidler 11-26-2006, 09:57 PM Yeah, it's true... and it's not only in auto industry... Samsung and LG are not doing well over there as well. Actually, they don't pay much attention to Japan as it's the toughest market to foreign comapnies. And it's quite funny while honda have become one of the favorite car maker in other countries, they are not doing well in Japan. It seems like thier brand name is not well treated as in oversea. The market in Japan is quite interesting....
Anyway, you said the car looks very korean.... Are u refering to Hyundai Coupe(http://car.donga.com/board/board.php?bbs=car_news_0901&no=2495&depth=0&page=16&s_work=view)?
BringIt 11-27-2006, 11:36 AM The "hybrid" post is a joke guys... peeps r dense round here...
This car is too funky to sell in large numbers anywhere in the world. But given they're only shooting for 2000 a year in Japan, and with Japanese' tendency to buy weird stuff, it's not a bad idea.
Think of it this way, if you're gonna sell 2000 of a certain car in Japan, what would you sell? Yet another bland sedan or van? Something funky is the way to go.
My only question is its performance and build quality - are they up to par?
fightingtorque 12-06-2006, 06:00 AM Dongfeng is out of its mind.
that's a pile of rubbish. copied the mk1 hyundai tiburon/coupe and then made it look sh*t. three sets of side repeaters, what kind of drugs they using. looks like they covered it in superglue and ram raided halfords.

agreed. And if they want to play in Japan, they'd better have good quality too.:D
god_bless_japan 12-30-2006, 11:36 AM that wont be happening soon,
also why would japanese people buy chinese cars, they would look like traitors, they might as well buy 2nd hand japanese car in their country then buy anything from china
cryptonx 02-04-2007, 09:49 AM this car makes geely cars look good :D
mg-zs 02-04-2007, 10:32 AM Someone has not been here for a long time
god_bless_japan 02-07-2007, 12:37 PM dont like the car, its ugly:eek:
martin_krpan 04-05-2007, 12:55 PM I read somewhere that this car is based on previous generation of Hyundai Coupe. They indeed look similar from sideview.
Is this true?
martin_krpan 09-03-2007, 11:46 AM Believe it or not, the car is going on sale. Next month! :w00t:
We always wondered when we say this car at the Beijing Auto Show in 2006 if they would ever release this car, and it seems that Dongfeng have reasonably high hopes for this car.
This car was designed by Dongfeng themselves and it … urm.. shows. China Car Times doesnt have any specifics on the car, other than its pretty ugly and that Dongfeng are planing on selling 2000 of the cars in the Japanese market next year. The oddest thing about the Dongfeng coupe is the boot of the car that seems to be able to raise and lower itself to give the driver more boot space should he need it.
he Dongfeng coupe comes complete with tiny 15inch wheels and odd looking indicator lights down the side of the front wings:
We cant wait for this one to hit the market this month, oh no - we put the wrong ending sentence in this blog post, no, we dont want this to hit anything other than a brick wall.
erik (laofan), cmvdc 09-05-2007, 05:25 AM engine is the standard Shenyang-Mitsubishi 4G64 S4M, (2356cc), l x w x h = 4350 x 1740 x 1290 mm, wheelbase 2485 mm, curb weight 1380 kg, max. speed 190 km/h
chinamonty 03-08-2008, 11:35 PM I think yellow is the worst colour for a motor show car. It woulc look better in something like British racing green or a dark blue. I dont like the front vents or the multiple indicator lights but it is no worse than the original Hyundai S coupe was. Would need to see different photos though.
mobilespeed 08-25-2008, 01:54 AM the styling reminds me of the old Hyundai Coupe...
martin_krpan 12-31-2008, 08:21 AM This has to be some mistake. According to Gasgoo coupe is going into production.
December 31, 2008 - Dongfeng Motor Group yesterday confirmed that its own-brand coupe model code-named EQ7240 has been approved by China's auto industry regulator for mass production and will be launched to market in early 2009, at a price above 200,000 yuan ($29,300). It will be the first coupe model developed and made by a Chinese automaker.
The Dongfeng coupe model has been listed among the new vehicles for production in the new year by China's Ministry of Information Industry. It will be built by the Dongfeng Rongcheng Auto Company located in east China's Shandong province and is expected to go on sale in the first half of next year.
Dongfeng Rongcheng said that the Dongfeng coupe is the first medium- to high-grade coupe model developed and produced by a Chinese automaker. It will be equipped with the Mitsubishi 4G69 2.4l MIVEC engine but all the other key components are developed by Dongfeng Motor.
The Dongfeng coupe concept was displayed at the 2006 Beijing auto show and since then has been awaiting approval from the industry regulator for production and sale.
The top management of Dongfeng Motor Group, China's third largest automaker, said that it has an integrated scheme for its future sedan product line-up.

Wait! At the same time, Suzuki is rumored to axe the Kizahi (http://jalopnik.com/5124758/suzuki-kizashi-not-dead-to-premier-at-new-york-auto-show), Dongfeng has the courage to put this into production? Wow. I am impressed. Not by the design itself, obviously, but by the strategy of Dongfengs management. Who are their advisors?!
martin_krpan 02-05-2009, 04:31 PM Believe it or not - EQ7240 is ready to hit the market.

thetycho 04-16-2009, 08:22 AM Found some pics of the Dongfeng's EQ7240BP Coupe, this is the production version, will be in Shanghai:
http://www.thetycho.com/news/a_dongfeng_c2_1/donfeng_coupe_out_1.jpg
Last week (http://www.thetycho.com/news_dongfeng25.htm) I showed you some somewhat vague pictures of the good old Dongfeng EQ7240BP in some stage of development. Now and finally we are in the clear: two brand new EQ7240BP's were seen outside one of Dongfeng's factories.
http://www.thetycho.com/news/a_dongfeng_c2_1/donfeng_coupe_out_2.jpg
This means the Monster is Coming and I feel happy about it, a creation like this deserves to live, forever. Rumors say it the production car will be at the Shanghai Auto Show, it starts in four days, who cares about boring Geelys (http://www.thetycho.com/news_geely26.htm)anymore?
http://www.thetycho.com/news/a_dongfeng_c2_1/donfeng_coupe_out_3.jpg
This EQ7240BP is still hiding inside. I guess it is scared, moving out to the world after being safe in the womb since 2006 is a big step indeed. Be Fearless oh EQ7240BP, you have absolutely noting to worry about, the Universe will love you. (Note the other one, sadly unpainted, in the back.)
