dragin 01-05-2007, 01:42 PM Egytuner I'm afraid that your photos make my photos of this model look sick.
All your photos on this thread and the other are excellent.

Trivia Tim 04-26-2007, 01:56 AM Could this be China's first hot hatch?
For a little under 50,000RMB you can get a Ben Ben with ABS, power steering, immobiliser, electric windows, alloy wheels, twin airbags and a radar for reversing. No info about whether the engine is more powerful or not.

"hot hatch" , at least until we know more about the

martin_krpan 06-25-2008, 05:14 AM Changan signs agreement to build Ben Ben in Iran.
June 25, 2008 - Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, partner of Ford Motor Co in China, has sign an cooperative agreement with Iran's Pars Industrial Development Foundation (PIDF) in Chongqing to assemble compact cars in Iran starting the first half of next year, state run Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.
Changan will provide technologies and auto parts to the joint venture facility, while PIDF will in turn take charge of the production side. The facility will have initial annual capacity of 50,000 units, rising to 250,000 eventually.
Changan's compact Benni, which it developed in-house, will be assembled in the facility near Tehran, mainly targeting the local market.
Xu Liuping, president of Chang'an, said the company aims to sell 200,000 vehicles abroad a year by 2010, up from 48,000 units last year, cites a China Daily report.
To achieve the goal, Chang'an plans to have a total of eight overseas manufacturing sites and launch eight passenger car and commercial vehicle models abroad, Xu said.

martin_krpan 11-17-2008, 01:08 PM Electric Changan CV6 this year in Canada
Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. will partner with Canadian battery maker Electrovaya Inc. to start assembling and selling electric Ben Ben (known in China as CV6) in Canada later this year. Anyway, the car does not have the full official certification and is not allowed to move on public roads.
Under the agreement, Changan will provide all the parts of the car except the powertrains to Electrovaya, while Electrovaya will assemble the cars in Canada with its battery powertrains. The first 30 units will be sold later this year. The cars will carry Changan's badge. The electric Ben Ben is 3525mm long, 1650mm wide and 1550mm high, with a starting price of about 5,800 USD in China. There is no official information about price in Canada yet.
According to Changan, which is cooparatin with Ford in China, the electric version can run as far as 600 kilometers on every full recharge. The Chinese carmaker also says it will eventually develop its own battery power systems for the car.

martin_krpan 01-21-2009, 01:08 PM ChangAn CV6 in Malaysia:
http://paultan.org/archives/2009/01/21/chana-era-cv6-launched-in-malaysia-based-on-the-changan-benben/
This is the other car launched by Changan Berjaya Auto on Monday, the Chana Era CV6. It’s essentially the same 5-door hatchback we saw in Putrajaya in March 2008. It’s pretty much a Viva-type of vehicle and the thing is it actually is decent to look at. There aren’t any strange jarring design cues that spoil the design, it’s simple, unpretentious and perhaps boring but it’s not hideous, nor does it employ any odd patterns like the triangles all over the Naza Forza.
For a sum of RM 36,862.00 for the Standard Solid version, you’ll get 5 seats, a 1,301cc engine producing 85 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 110Nm of torque between 3,500 to 4,500rpm, steel wheels, power steering with adjustable tilt, front power windows and a top speed of about 145km/h. For Metallic paint, you pay RM 37,368.00.
Going for the Premium version will cost you RM 40,888 for solid paint and RM 41,394 for metallic paint, and you’ll get alloy wheels, power windows for all four doors, ABS brakes, a single CD player with radio and a driver’s airbag. So it’s got ABS and an airbag covered, that’s pretty much how far safety features can go at this segment. Apparently during the launch period, you can get the Premium version for the price of the Standard version as an introductory offer.
The 1.3 liter engine is also a Suzuki-derived one, and probably a unit that’s a little more modern than the one in the van covered earlier, but it’s still pretty much a basic unit though it has a nice peak torque spread starting from 110Nm. From my observation of the units they had for display at the media preview, the build quality was even worse than the van. ChangAn even got basic things like the feedback an air conditioning knob gives when you turn it wrong. Go to a showroom and try it, it feels really weird, like you were forcibly twisting something through some thick oil, I would imagine this is what goes on inside a torque converter or something.
The selection knob for fresh air or recirculation air for the air conditioning appeared to be positioned too close to the dash and was cutting in to the dash plastic itself. The dashboard plastic itself isn’t really too bad however parts where various pieces meet together were way too rough. Some metal mounts and etc were too exposed like the bolt and joint where the seat and backrest connect together, etc. It’s a pity as the exterior doesn’t look too bad.
Despite the horrendous build quality, ChangAn knows people are also looking for mechanical quality and endurance, so they’ve recently organised this ChanaTrax event where a group of ChangAn vehicles including this CV6/BenBen drove from China to South Africa. That’s a total distance of 24,000 kms and there were some pretty high altitudes and rough terrain involved.
So I suppose it would be okay running around town here, it’s just that the only appealing thing going for this car at the moment seems to be its initial price tag.

martin_krpan 02-08-2009, 02:19 AM ChangAn is another Chinese manufacturer to select Greece as a test groung before entering European market.
Greece: Chana Benni Launches Base 6900 €
The few Chinese manufacturers in Europe seem to have concentrated all their commercial efforts in Greece, which already has six brands willing to steal a good number of sales to more established products of European origin, mainly Korean and Japanese.
The new Chana Benni now offers a simpler alternative, called Base, and for just € 6900 offers an engine 1.3i 16v of 83 hp, with power steering, electric pack, painted bumpers, hubcaps, folding rear seat, adjustable mirrors from inside, etc.. Base finish accompanies existing NAP and PQA.

martin_krpan 07-20-2009, 01:25 PM Chana Benni equiped with an electric motor will arive to Spain in September:
http://cochesymotores.com/chana-benni-el-primer-coche-chino-llega-a-espana-en-septiembre/
It seems that the Chinese finally landed in the Spanish market in the coming months. The first to arrive will be the Chana Benni, equipped with an electric motor and which has already been included in the Plan Movel government.
For the moment we have little data on the mechanics used but confirmed that it is totally not a hybrid and electric use. The recommended price is € 12,200 but because of the aid will have a discount of 20%, which should make the final price without VAT € 9760 (€ 11,326 on the street), very affordable as its most direct rival, the Th!nk City will cost around € 30,000.
On benefits will be fairly limited but sufficient for an urban use. From September 4 will go on sale 1,000 units. Among the equipment as it is remarkable air conditioning, traction control, electric windows and central locking.

jmsteiny 07-20-2009, 11:35 PM Martin, do you have any specs available on this electric CV6? Top speed? Distance between charges? IF this is a "real" car (in other words, able to maintain speed with traffic on city streets and able to pass standard crash safety tests), then this is potentially HUGE NEWS. Think about it - Changan just might have the world's first AFFORDABLE 100% ELECTRIC CAR that you can drive on the streets, with the standard car comforts - air conditioning, power windows, CD/MP3 - even traction control and central locking. I know, there are already other electric cars out there (like the Tesla)......but none of them are anything CLOSE to affordable for the average consumer. HOWEVER, if it's limited to a top speed of say.........50-60kph, it's not a "real" car in my mind yet. Close.........but not QUITE yet. Martin, if you have (or can obtain) specs on this car then PLEASE post them!! If this electric CV6 can hit a top speed of 100-120kph and go for say...........100-150km between charges then this could be one of the biggest stories of the year - or SHOULD be. Come on Changan - SELL THIS CAR IN CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jmsteiny 07-21-2009, 12:08 AM Sorry Martin, I just answered my own question - I clicked on the link in your posting and translated the spanish into english.:o Anyway, here are some specs - a top speed of 80kph, a distance of 120km between charges.......not too bad at all. It also says that the "admitted maximum weight is 120kg" - if that is the total for passengers and cargo then you are really limited with carrying capacity. It has a 27hp electric motor.........it sounds small but with a electric motor (and the immediate power and torque it provides at any needed time) it should be no problem for city driving. The price is expected to be around 12000 euros ($17000 USD or around 120,000rmb) - actually affordable for the most part. Is this a "real" car? It's right on the line - great for city driving or even the local expressway/ring roads............but not highway capable. It received a 2 star crash rating - not really great but for city driving at lower speeds ok I think. IF Changan could sell this in China for around 70,000rmb, I think they could have a BIG hit on their hands. Great for the daily commute or city shopping, and with the growing availability of apartments offering charging areas for e-bikes, providing charging areas for E-CARS would be no problem. The weight limitation IS a issue......but for a petite chinese wife (40-50kg) with a child (20kg or so), going shopping and loading up the car with 20kg of groceries would be no problem - or possibly a single male (60-80kg) commuting back and forth to work with some shopping on the side. This COULD be HUGELY popular in China if marketed right - target the younger generation, push the green technology......"buying this car is a step in the right direction to help save your children's future on this planet" - oh yeah, this could be a BIG hit if Changan is smart about it.
KiwiGuy 07-21-2009, 01:00 AM Definately looks European. I think it will do well on the basis that it passes safety regulations.
Looks very much like the Citroen Xsara Picasso but I think this looks mcuh better.:thumb:
BTW jmsteiny, the Kia Rio recieved a 2 star rating yet it continues to be sold in Spain. People really don't need to worry about safety ratings because 90% of drivers and driving is in cities where speeds and other factors limit the risk of a high speed crash.

dragin 08-12-2009, 09:28 AM So now it appears that Chang'an will be producing Benbens that will find their way to Canada via Electrovaya, the U.S. via BG Automotive, and Spain via a company we don't yet know the name of.
I wonder if all of them will be equipped with Chang'an's electric drivetrain or converted to electric by the importers.
Kiwiguy, I'm surprised to see your statistic regarding types of driving in Spain. I recall lots of cars being on the expressways in the summertime, and most of them were going so fast that I had the sensation of standing still.
cktlcmd 08-14-2009, 01:32 AM Do we have members who are owners of the Chana Benni? I would rather hear from them about how the car runs, what are their complaints about the car, etc...

KiwiGuy 11-22-2009, 05:49 PM All new Changan Ben Ben in 2010
From China Car Times:
The Chang’an Ben Ben was arguably the first interesting looking Chinese designed mini cars, whilst the others were either heavily inspired or just out right copied from other existing models. The Ben Ben has been quite a cash cow for Chang’an in the past few years since its launch, and probably will continue to be a great source of income for the company thanks to a radical redesign for 2010.
The Ben Ben will be now known as the Ben Ben Love and Ben Ben Mini, although CCT is not entirely sure if these will be two independent models or if they are just two options of the car.
My guess this will be the new interior/car specs for 2010.

dragin 11-23-2009, 08:50 AM Changan Automobile is considering acquiring Italian design studio IDeA, said Wards last week. Fiat contracts have apparently dried up.
Rally Red Lancer GTS 11-23-2009, 06:38 PM dragin, are you meaning main Fiat design studio in Italy by this? Or just one of their design subsidiaries? If it's the main pooh-Daddy, then this is a significant Chinese acquisition, huh?
boogiecat 11-24-2009, 07:07 AM Looks decent..Hoping that they've fixed the quality issues of the previous gen..
