'Sing', the premiere Sport Utility Vehicle from Great Wall Motors of China, was unveiled by T.C.Y Motors Sdn Bhd, the sole dealership for Great Wall Motor Company Limited, at their showroom in Jln Batu Bersurat yesterday morning.
Looking more masculine and much bigger than an average SUV, the Sing features a fashionable interior with leather seats. It is powered by a four cylinder 2.2-litre engine with Euro II Emission standard compliance.
For three consecutive years, the Great Wall SUV has been ranked as number one in terms of sales volume, and has promoted the growth of the entire SUV segment in China.
Two versions of the 'Sing' SUV will be available in the Brunei market namely 'top' and 'luxury' spec. The top version is the higher spec of the two, where it comes with a built-in VCD player and reverse video radar, which allows the driver to easily manoeuvre the vehicle during parking.
Costing around $30,000 on the road for the luxury spec while another thousand more for the top spec, the Sing SUV maybe one of the most affordable SUVs in town.
According to T.C.Y Motors, the Sing SUV is ideal for people with big families.

Jan. 26, 2007 (China Knowledge) – The Hover, a car made by China's Great Wall Motor Company <2333>, will make its debut on the Chilean market on Feb. 1, said officials from its distributor company, DERCO.
Sold at between 10 million pesos and 11 million pesos, the car is designed to compete against cars in the same category but with higher prices. The five-seater Hover is an all-terrain vehicle featuring Mp3, radio and CD player, central locks, remote control locks, double airbag and ABS brakes.
The Hover has been subjected to six-month trials in Chile. In neighboring Peru, it has already been sold for four months and has become one of the most successful models in the DERCO market.
DERCO plans to sell about 1,000 Hovers during 2007 in Chile and will launch some other products in 2008, such as vans and medium-sized cars.

The GWM 2.2i Double cab will be available at a low R135 000 and the Multi-wagon model will cost R155 000. Both these derivatives will only be available in a luxury specification.

mememe 04-21-2008, 03:45 PM Great Wall revs up overseas
2008-04-21
For Wang Fengying, CEO of Great Wall Motor Co Ltd, China's largest maker of SUVs and pickup trucks, the biggest pressure and challenge in 2008 is how to build a better brand for Great Wall overseas.
Since 1998, Great Wall's vehicle export volume and revenue has maintained the leading position, and from 2000, its exports increased annually with a high average growth rate of 90 percent.
Last year, the company exported 51,394 units of vehicles with revenue of $450 million. Great Wall vehicles have run on the roads of 121 countries, 81 in which it has distribution and service networks
"We hope to export 80,000 vehicles this year, with overseas markets accounting for half of our sales next year," says Wang.
Wang believes her branding strategy is the key factor to Great Wall's overseas success.
"Branding integrates products, sales and service which, more importantly, shows the company's capability to develop," she says.
"Although we can provide high-quality products with competitive prices, in the fierce international competition, branding is vital for a company's long-term development," she says. "Great Wall is making efforts to change the international impression of low-quality, low-price Chinese vehicles."
The Great Wall Hover crossover utility vehicle, the company's major exported vehicle, contributing 22 percent of the total export sales figure, is sold in Russia at $22,000 and in Africa at $30,000. In China price is between 105,800 yuan ($15,120) and 146,800 yuan.
Now Great Wall is changing its strategy from simple complete vehicle trading to an integrated overseas marketing system including branding, sales and service network expansion, technology exporting, complete knock down (CKD) and semi-knock down exports and constructing manufacturing facilities overseas.
Great Wall has set up CKD facilities in Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Iran, Indonesia and Nigeria. "We are talking with the Russian government about building a complete vehicle plant there and also considering Vietnam as our second overseas manufacturing base," says Wang.
Wang says that by 2010, "Great Wall's target is to have 600 (sales, spare parts, service and survey) stores abroad, to better serve our customers."

Second Chinese vehicle brand confirmed for Oz via Ateco – six months ahead of Chery
By JOHN MELLOR and MARTON PETTENDY 17 June 2008
AUSTRALIA’S first Chinese vehicle brand will be launched earlier than expected in October, beating Chery on sale here by almost six months.
GoAuto can exclusively confirm the surprise news that Great Wall Motors, likely to be known in Australia as GWM, will go on sale via a separate dealer network to Chery, which will also be imported and distributed by Ateco Automotive.
GWM’s first model will be Australia’s most affordable dual-cab utility, based on Great Wall’s Sailor, powered by a 2.3-litre petrol engine and priced “well under $20,000”, and will be followed by a full range of commercial and passenger vehicles.
Like Chery - which as previously reported will be introduced here by March next year, via the light-sized A1 hatch, the small A5 sedan and the compact Tiggo SUV - the GWM models will swap their Chinese-market names for alpha-numeric nameplates that are yet to be revealed.
The Great Wall initiative will give Ateco two Chinese franchises, which will be sold by two separate national distribution and dealer networks.
Ateco Automotive managing director Ric Hull told GoAuto: “We have been talking to Great Wall probably for as long as we have been talking to Chery.
Top to bottom: Australian-spec GWM "Sailor", Chinese Peri and Hover.
“We met with many auto-makers but really liked dealing with Great Wall. They have excellent facilities and are really excellent people to deal with. So we chose to develop that relationship with them.”
He said while the agreement was not quite signed “both sides are comfortable to the point where we are prepared to go public”.
The first vehicle through the approvals process will be a highly-specified two-wheel drive four-door pick-up, powered by a 78kW/190Nm 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
Mr Hull said the Sailor will make ute ownership more affordable for trades people in the same way the Pregio achieved significant penetration of the van market for Kia.
He said that Ateco saw how successful the Pregio was for Kia “and we would like to think the pick-up can emulate some of that.
“Great Wall does not have a van in the line-up today but I would be very surprised if they don’t develop one.”
He added that the crew-cab, at under $20,000, would prove attractive to first-time buyers because it was a genuine five-seater.
GWM’s first model will significantly undercut SsangYong’s newest version of its Sports Dual Cab utility, the entry-level “Tradie” workhorse, which is available only in white, priced at $24,990 in 2WD guise.
On sale from earlier this month, the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel Tradie replaced Mahindra’s 2.3-litre turbo-diesel Pik-Up (priced from $25,990) as Australia’s cheapest twin-cab ute, matching or bettering many Japanese diesel single-cab and four-cylinder petrol twin-cab models.
The bargain-basement GWM ute will be followed “quickly” by a single-cab version, shortly before a 73kW/225Nm 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine choice comes on line.
It’s believed the latter will come in the form of a heavily facelifted version of the Sailor, called the Wingle in China, which could be sold alongside the Sailor.
The GWM pick-ups will be followed in the first quarter of 2009 by a light-sized five-door hatch known in China as the Peri, which will come with a 65kW/115Nm 1.3-litre 16-valve four-cylinder petrol engine mated to both five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions.
Interestingly, at 3548mm long, 1581mm high and 1580mm wide, and riding on a 2299mm wheelbase, the 1015kg Peri should compete directly with the Chery A1, due to emerge here around the same time.
Soon after that, also in the first quarter, there will be a small five-door SUV called the Hover in China, where it is available in both two and four-wheel drive configurations.
Powered by a Mitsubishi-sourced 16-valve 2.4-litre engine coupled to both five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions, the compact GWM crossover will sell in the same segment as Chery’s Tiggo SUV.
Mr Hull said the Great Wall range included mid-sized cars and people-movers and that Ateco would like so see a full range of vehicles from its new partner.
He said that Ateco would most likely sell the cars under the brand GWM (standing for Great Wall Motors) instead of Great Wall.
“In China the pick-up sells under the name of sailor, but we are not bound in any way to use the Chinese names nor will we. We will probably use alpha-numeric names.
“It has been on sale in South Africa for a while, where it is known as the GWM Pick-up, but there are replacement pick-ups coming so we will have to think our way through that and most likely go to alpha-numeric nomenclature.”
Mr Hull said that the styling was contemporary and that versions being driven around in Australia we being accepted by the public as conventional vehicles. It is being seen “as just a regular pick-up.”
Asked if he saw any potential for cars under $10,000 in Australia, Mr Hull said: “As I have said all along I don’t expect to be super-cheap. I don’t think there will be any $9990 cars on our horizon but I think they will be very well priced.”
But Mr Hull said that he thought Chinese cars would provide a price-to-equipment advantage over other car-makers in Australia, which would continue for some time. “We will be pricing pretty much on the Koreans but better specced,” he said.
He said that while it was true that Chinese workers in the east were starting to attract higher wages, car-makers were moving to open new car plants further west, where wage pressures were at a minimum as workers were being recruited “off the land”.
“So labour will be plentiful and not extravagant in the foreseeable future.
“The investment levels are just amazing. There seems to be no shortage of capital to buy the latest equipment and this is certainly a very pronounced feature of the producers that we have talked to in China.
“They have magnificent plants. We went to the opening of a new Great Wall plant in October that will make 200,000 cars a year and it was absolutely breathtaking.”
Wanted: Instant dealer network
ATECO Automotive has embarked on an ambitious plan to create a new national dealer network for Great Wall Motors (to be known here as GWM) by October and a second separately administered network with different dealers for Chery by early 2009.
Both brands are going to need about 60 dealers each at launch, with plans for each network to grow to 120 dealers.
On current projections the company is looking to get sales for each brand into “the 20,000s within three to four years.”
Ateco managing director Ric Hull said that while both Chery and GWM were comfortable that Ateco was dealing with both companies, both brands will be sold out of separate showrooms.
“We will have a policy that no one dealer will have both brands,” he said, adding that finding dealers to set up two separate networks nationally will not be a problem.
“We are holding 200 applications which have been flowing in once dealers knew we were looking at Chinese brands. They are very good quality dealers in the main and some of the big groups have expressed interest. Applications are still flowing in at about one a day.
Mr Hull said the short lead time to set up a Great Wall network by October was something he had done before.
“When we first set up Daewoo we had less time and not as much of a head start, so we are confident we can do it. We will be on the road very shortly, visiting everyone who has expressed an interest.”
There will be a need for regional management in each state and Ateco is now gearing up to create new regional offices in each state, separate from existing Ateco regional offices.
Ateco will also be recruiting state management for Chery in the lead-up to next year’s launch as Chery will have to become separate as well.
Vehicle distribution will be put out to a logistics company.
“We (Ateco) already put any of the competitive elements of our business in the hands of dedicated people, but we will have to go even further where we have brands competing here that compete with each other in their home market. That is very important.”
Mr Hull said the model ranges would be kept “extremely simple”.
“We learned with the Korean brands that it is better that there is only one version of each model that comes reasonably well equipped. Dealers prefer it as well. It just makes life 10 times more sensible.
“Having GLs and GLXs and all of that stuff is a complexity you can well do without. I don’t think it sells any more cars and it just makes the running of the business that much more costly.
“You wind up with stock you don’t necessarily want in the place you don’t want it.
“If you are drop shipping at seven ports around the country, every time you make your range more complex you increase exponentially the chance of getting it wrong.
“And then you have to spend money to solve it by transferring to someone who wants it or bonusing a dealer to take something he doesn’t want.”

martin_krpan 06-21-2008, 01:57 PM GM coming Down Under in October.
20th June, 2008 - China’s first car brand to make its Australian and New Zealand debut will arrive in October of this year, more than six months early than previously predicted, when Sydney and Auckland based importer, Ateco Automotive launches Great Wall Motor. Another Chinese brand, Chery, wants a bite of the local car market, too.
Ateco has been negotiating with GWM for almost three years. Strict confidentiality agreements have precluded Ateco from confirming that it has not only concluded negotiations but it also has been working on homologating the first GWM vehicle to be sold in Australia. GWM will debut with a double cab ute, with a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine, that will retail for well under $20,000 in both Australia and New Zealand.
“The GWM double cab ute will be just the start,” says Ric Hull, Managing Director, Ateco Automotive Pty Ltd. “The ute will be followed soon after with a single cab ute, a compact SUV and an entry level light car.”
To prepare for the launch of its Chinese brands, Ateco has made some key management changes. David Stone, who was instrumental in setting up the Hyundai, Daewoo and Kia networks, will oversee the appointment of dealers to distribute Ateco’s new Chinese brands, with a target of 50 dealers across Australia for the launch of GWM in October. In New Zealand the GWM distribution business will be run from Ateco’s Mount Wellington headquarters in Auckland via a network of five to six dealers at launch. The New Zealand product range will be common with Australia.
In addition to its Sydney headquarters, Ateco will also appoint regional managers for the key state operations, working to Peter McGeown who is newly appointed to the role of National Sales Manager. McGeown has worked with Ateco as Queensland Regional Manager when Ateco represented Kia. He will be responsible for setting up an entire sales and marketing infrastructure for GWM, which will include national as well as regional activities.
Full details, prices and specifications of the new GWM range will be announced when they go on sale in October.
In the meantime, the Next Car team hasn't noticed any desire for cheap vehicles from China. On that basis, we don't expect to see a queue forming to buy unknown products from a communist country where the regime feels no shame each time the regime exercises violence towards the citizens of neighbouring countries (such as Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet). In fact, given the poor experience of European buyers of cheap cars from China, it is difficult to see that anyone would even buy one of the great unknowns. Even at excessively cheap prices, buyers will be few and far between. For example, when was the last time you heard someone mutter "I just can't wait to buy a cheap car from China, because I don't want of the those nice new cars"? The other aspect which will be disturbing to potential dealers is whether or not they will threaten their own businesses if buyers of real cars do their shopping elsewhere because of a protest against a Chinese car dealer sending good aussie dollars to China.

Comparing a Chery Tiggo to a Great Wall Hover is unreal. Hover is bigger, better equiped, as a diesel version...
Tiggo is a smaller 4x4.

The aussie who wrote this got the nerves. Look at the last paragraph.
When did China exercise her violence to Nepal and Mongolia ?
When was the last time he heard an aussie said " I wish to buy a Holden"
That guy is quite oblivious to the fact that China is now Australia's biggest export market , China is buying so much minerals from Australia every year, helping to prop up Australian economy and that buffoon now talks like that.
Seriously , some Aussies really need to get out more and look at the world, they ain't doing no favour for China, China is doing a favour for them by buying up their minerals and resources.

martin_krpan 06-29-2008, 06:39 AM Great Wall Motors to be first Chinese auto brand in NZ.
June 29, 2008 - Great Wall Motors is set to become the first Chinese car brand available in New Zealand, with a national dealer network due to be confirmed in time for an October launch on both sides of the Tasman.
Likely to be known in Australia and New Zealand as GWM, Great Wall Motors is China's largest privately-owned vehicle maker.
It already exports to about 60 countries in Asia, Europe and South America, and is planning to open production facilities in Russia as well as China.
The first model offered here will be a 2.3-litre double-cab utility which, with a price tag of under $20,000, will undercut rival products by thousands of dollars.
The GWM double cab ute will be just the start, says Ateco Automotive Pty Ltd managing director Ric Hull.
The ute will be followed soon after by a single-cab ute, a compact SUV and an entry-level light car.
Pricing will be comparable to similar Korean models but with a significantly higher specification.
Rather than using names for its various models, which in China include vehicles called the Safe, Sailor and Wingle, GWM is expected to adopt an alpha-numeric system for its Australia and New Zealand line-up.
GWM vehicles will be imported by Ateco Automotive, which already handles brands here, including Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Ferrari, and Citroen.
Announcing its intention to bring Great Wall Motors vehicles to New Zealand this year, Ateco also confirmed it is pressing on with previously revealed plans to introduce the Chinese Chery brand in 2009.
A network of five or six GWM dealers is planned for New Zealand.

This is pradoxal. A company that represents Fiat, who as a feud with GWM due the Panda/Peri is going to import both automakers? I wonder how this is going to end....
mememe 06-30-2008, 09:59 AM I think as long as they don't bring in the Peri and Panda, things won't be that bad.
micodelija 06-30-2008, 11:08 AM the same is here in croatia, why that shoud be a problem?
i also have panda in my family, my grandfather drive it
and i will also drive a peri :thumb:
I think as long as they don't bring in the Peri and Panda, things won't be that bad.
It seems you are right.
I have searched the web and it seems Fiat nz only imports the 500 and goes up the scale to the punto. They dont have the panda in they catalog.
So for now all is ok, but i dont think Fiat is pleased in any way....

martin_krpan 10-28-2008, 02:40 PM Great Wall Motor to export pickups to Australia.
October 28, 2008 - After securing a $440-mln order for exporting 4,500 Deer pickups to Cuba, China's automaker Great Wall Motor recently announced that it will export its Sailor and Wingle pickups to Australia, said xinhuanet.com today.
As an important market that sells 1 million vehicles every year, Australia has strict standards for auto imports. Great Wall is well prepared for these standards and its vehicles have met Australia's strict ADR (Australian Design Rule) requirements. In eco-friendliness and safety, the Sailor and Wingle pickup models for export to Australia have been upgraded on the versions sold in the domestic market to comply with the Euro III+OBD standard.
Great Wall said its Sailor pickup for sale abroad is also higher priced than that sold at home. The exported version of the Sailor pickup will sell in Australia for an equivalent of 120,000 yuan ($17,560), and the export of this pickup model to the Australian market will reach 3,000 units annually.
An executive from Great Wall revealed that the company will also export its SUVs and sedans to Australia for sale. The Great Wall Hover SUV is going though related certification in Australia. In addition, the Great Wall Florid sedan to go on sale next month domestically is expected to enter the overseas markets as well.
One of Great Wall Motor's long-term strategies is to explore the global markets. In early October, the company shipped 1,500 pickups to Cuba. This is the first batch of the 4,500 pickups ordered by the Cuban government from the Chinese pickup maker.

November 26, 2008
Shanghai, November 26 (Gasgoo.com) A Great Wall Motor spokesman said the company is in talks with a major Russia importer for distribution of vehicles in the country, a Xinhua report said today.
Shang Yugui told reporters in an interview that cooperation talks with a Russia importer have indeed come to the final stage but he has nothing to declare at the present.
The report said the ongoing talks may end in the two parties jointly building a joint ventue for assembly of Great Wall's Hafu SUV and some sedan models. More details are expected earlier next year.
Industry analysts say Great Wall may not expect to hold the majority stake in the planning venture as before under the current protectionist regulations from the Russia government and it shall prepare to change their way of investment in the country in order to lower risks.
Great Wall announced earlier last week that it has terminated its joint venture in Russia called Great Wall Alabuga Motor Open Joint Stock, as it failed to get tax concessions from government.
The joint venture planned to build a plant to make Great Wall Motor vehicles after signing an agreement in 2005. Great Wall owns 75 percent of the joint venture and the Tatarstan agency owns the remainder.
Great Wall Motor has become the largest Chinese brand in the Russian market since it entered the country in 2004. This year it expects to double sales in Russia to 20,000 vehicles.

mememe 12-10-2008, 03:01 AM Great Wall Motor to make cars in Bulgaria
December 10, 2008
China's largest sport utility vehicle maker, Great Wall Motor Co, plans to start manufacturing cars under its badge in Bulgaria, the government said in a statement on Tuesday.
In a joint venture with a Bulgarian partner, Great Wall plans to invest 80 million euros in a new car plant at Lovech, about 170 km northeast of Sofia, the government said after Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev met with Great Wall's vice presidents.
Bulgarian media have reported that private company Great Wall's investment partner is probably local firm Litex.
The project, which will employ about 1,500 people, is expected to be launched at the start of 2009. No other details were disclosed.
Bulgaria, which sees Foreign Direct Investment dropping by at least 1.0 billion euros from a record 6.5 billion in 2007, is struggling to attract production-linked investment to boost its exports and decrease risks from its huge current account deficit.
French car parts maker Montupet, Japan's Yazaki, a supplier of vehicle power and data solutions, and Belgian company Melexis , which designs electronic automotive chips, have also invested in new production units in Bulgaria.
In April, Great Wall, maker of Hover SUVs, said it was diversifying into car production and plans 10 billion yuan in investment over the next three years, including 3 billion yuan to shore up its research and development capability.
The Bulgarian government quoted Great Wall executives as saying they will not freeze their investment projects because of the global financial crisis.

KiwiGuy 02-01-2009, 03:11 AM According to China Car Times, GWM (It will be known as GWM in NZ and Australia), launched here in October last year. Initial model is a 2.3 double cab utility with a price tag of under NZ$20,000 which will undercut rivals by thousands. This will be followed by a single cab utility, a compact SUV, probably the Hover, and an entry-level light car. Ironically, they will be distributed by ATECO, which also signed a deal to import Chery cars this year.
Keep you posted. :D
KiwiGuy 02-01-2009, 05:40 PM I have found picture of Australian registered Great Wall Sailor double cab on the net but having trouble posting it to this forum. Also, from China Car Times, GWM is currently updating the Hover for 08/09 and will be exporting 3000 pick-ups to Australia. These are a mixture of Sailor and Wingle pick-ups that have been designed to meet Australian design rules. The Hover will also be redesigned for Australian market. GWM has also modified it's pick-ups to meet Australian Euro 3 emissions standards.
Still waiting for news about GWM in NZ but methinks these new modifications might also be for New Zealand market.
Any help would be appreciated. :thumb:

KiwiGuy 02-03-2009, 07:24 PM More Great Wall models have been announced for the Australian market with the original range of Hover, Wingle and Salior being joined by Cowry, Deer, Hover limousine and Peri. Great Wall aims to sell in the entry model markets which are currently dominated by Korean brands such as Kia and Hyundai. It is belived that Great Wall's range of pick-ups (or 'utes' as we call them in NZ and Australia) will be the main source of sales in Australia, since there is a very big market for pick-ups there which produces big money and competition from the main players: Toyota, Ford and Australian GM brand Holden. Great Wall has also tested vehicles in Australia itself.

First Chinese-brand cars arrive ... and they're utes
March 27, 2009
THE first Chinese-brand vehicles to be sold in Australia will be in dealerships by mid-year when a local importer begins shipping in two workhorse utes made by Chinese carmaker Great Wall.
About 50 dealers will offer two models from the privately owned Chinese maker with starting prices under $20,000.
Independent vehicle importer Ateco Automotive expects to sell a couple of hundred a month and has spent four years working on the deal.
The models, called Wingle and Sailor in China, will bear alpha-numeric names here and are just the beginning for Chinese car imports, according to Ateco managing director Ric Hull.
Mr Hull made more than 20 trips to China to select potential suppliers and whittled the list down to Great Wall and Chery, which supplied hybrid cars for the recent Beijing Olympic Games.
"Chery was an obvious pick because they're the largest of the independents," he said. "We ended up with Great Wall because we like them, their products and how they do business."
Great Wall, based in Baoding, south of Beijing, already exports to 120 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Eastern Europe.
The Great Wall utes were originally due on sale late last year but Ateco postponed the launch after exchange rates moved against the Australian dollar.
Ateco chief Neville Crichton said China's car industry was ambitious but pragmatic.
"They want to be No 1 in the world eventually, like they are with whitegoods and televisions and every other appliance," he said. "But they're realistic about where the product should sit and how much time it could take to become a major player."
He was impressed by the pace of industrial and infrastructure development in the country.
"Every time you went back things were vastly improved -- from the roads, to the manufacturing plant and office blocks. Everything's new and immaculate," he said.
Mr Hull said crash safety issues, which sank early attempts to export Chinese vehicles to Europe, had been overcome with internal testing by the companies to international standards.
The Great Wall utes will be the first Chinese-brand vehicles ever sold in Australia, although not the first Chinese-made cars.
In recent years Volkswagen sourced some Polo small sedans from its Chinese factory for sale here on a trial basis.

martin_krpan 06-16-2009, 07:21 AM Reanult and GWM have signed the agreement under which Chinese will produce Renault vehicles in its factory in Guacara, Venezuela.
Renault and the Chinese Great Wall has signed a preliminary agreement in Venezuela for the production of various models in the facilities that Asians have in Guacara, state of Carabobo. This is to improve sales of both brands in this market.
At the moment what you will know that more than 22,000 units, while Renault and Great Wall, remember, the biggest Chinese manufacturer of private capital. due to the last problems in China with renault vehicles this may be a way to promote they image
martin_krpan 06-30-2009, 10:53 AM Reanult and GWM have signed the agreement under which Chinese will produce Renault vehicles in its factory in Guacara, Venezuela.
Spokesman of GWM announced that they have no plans for a JV outside of China with Renault.
An overseas marketing vice general manager of Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd. denied the saying that the Chinese automaker would set up a joint-venture factory with the French auto titan Renault in Venezuela.
Earlier reports said that in mid-June 2009, Great Wall Motor signed a letter of intent with Renault about their joint-venture production in Venezuela.
Both sides would manufacture vehicles in a factory, which belongs to a local partner of the Chinese automaker, they added. The factory, with a designed yearly production capacity of 22,000 vehicles, would produce 15,000 vehicles for Renault and the remaining for Great Wall Motor a year, they continued.
The reports even said that Renault would build Logan, one of its car models, and Sandero, one of its hatchback products, in the factory, with some parts imported from Colombia. The French auto titan has manufactured Logan cars in Colombia for four years.
If the joint-venture plan comes true, the French auto titan would invest USD 10 million and the Chinese automaker would contribute USD 65 million, they predicted.
The vice general manager of the Chinese automaker explained that Renault would not cooperation with Great Wall Motor, but a Venezuela-based dealer of Great Wall Motor.
Its local dealer had planned to build a factory, with an annual production capacity of 22,000 to 25,000 vehicles, to manufacture Great Wall-branded products in the form of knock down (KD), said the vice general manager.
Later, Renault went to the dealer and hoped that the dealer could also assemble Renault-branded vehicles. Both sides signed an agreement, and in the future, both Great Wall-branded and Renault-branded products will be assembled in the factory, he disclosed. But Great Wall Motor itself has had no plan to set up a joint venture with Renault or join hands with it, he stressed.
Notably, in March 2009, Great Wall Motor President Wang Fengying told that the US auto giant Chrysler LLC terminated the cooperation negotiations with her company.
Analysts said that the termination resulted from the tie-up of the US auto giant and Italy’s Fiat. But the Chinese automaker denies the saying, stressing that Chrysler and Fiat had just signed a nonbinding agreement.
The president said that Great Wall Motor would pay the most attention to the development of its proprietary brands, and that it had not contacted any partner yet.
The automaker sold 125,000 vehicles in 2008, including 55,000 ones for export and falling far behind the goal of 200,000 ones. This year, it will release 13 new products and reach the 200,000-vehicle goal.

KiwiGuy 07-02-2009, 03:43 AM About bloody time!
Chinese cars are coming to NZ (excluding the Rovers which are imported here)
Two twin-cab utilities, the V240 in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations and the SA220 in 4x2 only, are the first Great Wall models to be released onto the Australasian market.
The V240 4x2 will sell in New Zealand for $26,990 plus on road costs, with the 4x4 option costing $3000 extra. The SA220 will sell for $21,990 plus on road costs.
Both vehicles offer electric windows, alloy wheels, leather trimmed seats and air conditioning. Great Wall vehicles will be sold and supported initially in New Zealand by a network of six dealers and have a three year/100,000km warranty.
The Australian range will be common to that sold in New Zealand with over 45 dealers there at launch. Ateco Automotive, the Auckland and Sydney-based importer, has been negotiating to bring Great Wall to New Zealand for over three years. According to the Managing Director of Ateco Australia, Mr Ric Hull, “Great Wall is one of China?s leading car makers and it has been consistently at the top of its domestic car market with its Ute and SUV models.
“This year China will make and sell more vehicles than any other country in the world. Every mainstream car and component manufacturer is represented there. Access to technology is virtually unlimited. China?s car industry has come a long way in a very short time,” he said.

KiwiGuy 07-03-2009, 01:16 AM Where I live, there is a building with a car lot that used to sell used cars. Since earier this month, the company building has been brought and all the cars were sold but the building wasn't demolished. Now with news of Great Wall's entry into the New Zealand market, and with a planned six dealers natiowide and another Chinese company (Zonda) already in the region and doing well in business terms, could this mean Great Wall have brought it?
The suspense continues.........
KiwiGuy 07-03-2009, 05:18 AM I have just found out that a company called Huston Motors who deals Mitsubishi cars where I live will be one of six Great Wall dealerships around New Zealand. Models are Wingle (V240) and Sailor (SA220). New vehicles to be released are Hover and Florid. Good thing is, Great Wall can sell the Peri here because Fiat do not sell the Panda in New Zealand.
I'll see if I can get down there and get some pictures.

martin_krpan 07-19-2009, 04:17 PM The Florid's largest order left for Algeria
At the end of June 2009, 300 units Florid together with 500 units Wingle were transported to Xingang port waiting for the vessel to Algeria. This features the Florid's first largest order in its export history.
These vehicles were ordered by Algerian GMS Company, who is the exclusive distributor of Great Wall Motors in Algeria. During the two-year's cooperation, more than 3000 Great Wall vehicles were shipped to Algeria. 1800 units out of them were shipped in the first half of 2009. And meanwhile, GMS has been attaching great importance to the establishment of the network. Up to the time of writing, a total of 7 self-owned showrooms, and 19 dealers as well were set up across over Algeria, becoming an example of Great Wall Motors in North African Market.
As the second largest continent, the African auto market has great potential with an annual car sales volume of 1.3 million units, and over 60% of them are sedan. Algeria is one of the comparatively developed countries in North Africa, with an annual car sales volume of 300,000 units. The successful debut of Florid will surely be a great push for the sales of the future new models and the popularization of Great Wall Brand in the local market.

martin_krpan 03-04-2011, 10:06 AM Great Wall assembles Hover and Wingle in the Philippines
Great Wall Motor has started assembling vehicles in the Philippines, making it the first Chinese automaker to do so. The assembly plant is a joint venture between Great Wall and its domestic vehicle distributor Statemotor Corp.
The plant has a capacity of 10,000 vehicles a year, and will roll out Great Wall’s Hover SUV and Wingle pickup truck. If its venture with Manila based Statemotor goes smoothly, Great Wall will also proceed to assemble its Voleex sedan in the ASEAN country, a company spokesman revealed. By the way, the Hover scored a surprising 4-star crash test rating in the Australasian NCAP.
In 2010, Great Wall’s total sales exceeded 390,000 units, including 50,000 overseas sales. This year, the Baoding based carmaker aims to up sales to 500,000 units, including 70,000 overseas sales. News reports state that Great Wall operates CKD plants in Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia as well, although we’ve yet to hear anything about that. We have however seen the Wingle undergoing testing in Malaysia.
Will the brand kick start operations in Malaysia this year and join counterparts Chery, Changan and Jinbei in the quest to seek acceptance from Malaysians? We’ve seen that low pricing can sway carbuyers – the Chery Eastar MPV found over 2,600 buyers in 2010 (more than the Toyota Rush and Fortuner) while the Era Jinbei is fast gaining popularity as an affordable passenger van.
Great Wall Motors' assembly plant in Philippines started full production in January 2011, which means that the Great Wall became the first Chinese auto manufacturer having entered the Philippines market in KD form. It is learned that other Chinese auto brands such as Chery, Foton and Lifan are also in the Philippine market side by side with the Great Wall Motors. However, their products in the market are all foreign-built vehicles rather than locally assembled ones.
Great Wall Motors and its agent in Philippines, State Motor Companysigned an agreement on December 27, 2009. The assembly operation was approved officially by the Philippine Investment and Development Committee on July 28, 2010. It took only six months from the application for approval and preparations to realizing the full assembly production. It is learned that the assembly plant has an annual production capacity of 10,000 vehicles, and the first batch of product assembled there was the Great Wall HAVAL H3 and WINGLE 3. If the cooperation goes well at the initial stage, the Great Wall Motors will also introduce its VOLEEX to the Philippines market for local assembly and marketing.
Great Wall Motors was among the first Chinese auto brands into the international market. Its export operation has been in the leading position in terms of volume and value, and established reputation in abroad market. In contemporary auto market, the after-sales service is another important consideration for consumers besides the price and quality of automobile products. For this reason, the State Auto Company in Philippines will provide sufficient and complete after-sales service according to current local standards to ensure the stable market share inPhilippines, as well as the satisfaction of local consumers. The Great Wall Motors has been striving for improving the quality of after-sales services and increasing the supply of parts in overseas markets to meet the demand of local consumers. It has also established an after-sales service network with sufficient coverage to facilitate the maintenance and repairing operation. By doing so, the brand image of Great Wall Motors has been well established in overseas markets.
Apart from Philippines, the Great Wall Motors has currently established KD assembly plants in countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia. It has also initiated whole-unit marketing in countries including Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Brunei. Moreover, the Great Wall Motors will continue searching for active and reliable approaches to gradually open up the ASEAN market. It is planning on building up five production bases in ASEAN by the year 2015.

Haval SUV Car of the Year Malaysia
On November 25, 2011, the Malaysia’s “Car of the Year”, supported by Malaysian Automobile Association and held by the local famous magazine New Straits Times and Maybank, the Malaysia’s largest bank, released the results. On the 16-item list of the cars of the year, Haval SUV of Great Wall Motors was highly praised by the organizing committee and the audience, thus winning the prize of “Year 2011 SUV Model Car”. And Wingle Pickup won the nomination award. This is the first time that the Chinese car brand has won the title of Year Car in the ten-year history of “Malaysia’s Car of the Year”. Over the past few years, the Car of the Year award was won by Peugeot, Nissan, Volkswagen and some other brands.
The appraisal activity was held in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The Malaysian dealer of Great Wall Motor, Green Orange Company attended this activity with Haval H5, Wingle 5 and Voleex C20R EV. The car enthusiasts from around Malaysia came to the center to visit those models and cast their votes on November 12 and 13. It is estimated that the show attracted about 45000 visitors within two days, the highest number over the past few years.
“Malaysia’s Car of the Year”, a conclusive activity to present the annual report on the Malaysian automobile market, bears great persuasiveness, directly influencing the tens of thousands of customers on what cars to purchase. Thus, this activity has attracted much attention of many auto manufacturers. Great Wall Motors, as a representative of China’s car brands, stands out of the numerous car brands to win this honorary award, proving that Great Wall Motors has been widely recognized across Malaysia.
The person in charge of the overseas market of Great Wall Motors said that it is not accidental for Haval SUV to win the award of “Malaysia’s Car of the Year”. Great Wall Motors has been adhering to the quality-first philosophy by using the state-of-the-art technologies and reliable quality to win many awards. For instance, Haval SUV “has been ranking top in its sales volume in China for the eight consecutive years”; and “in 2009 it passed the Whole Vehicle Type Approval of European Union”; and it won “the first place for Chinese SUV Team” in the Dakar Rally. With advanced technologies and solid strength, the three major brands of Great Wall Motors will be the new benchmarks for the top-ranking cars.
