Nan, i'm not sure at all :nono: according to the link you provided, it's believed to be a new MG 25 developped by Nanjing Automobile
bluffer 03-18-2007, 08:04 AM This is a Nanjing MG3!
ABC Ltd. 03-18-2007, 10:32 PM As to our OEM database, the Brilliance A1 shall be roll off assembly line in Q1/2008 with an annual production volume of 45K. It is dedicated for the upper A-class segment and shall compete e.g. with VW Polo.

Thanks guys; yes I knew what the article said but it didn't look right and it seemed to be based on a guess by the person who took the photos. Plus, as BringIt said - it "Sure has that Brilliance front end...".
Sounds like its not an A1 though - mabe it is an MG!

Trivia Tim 04-16-2007, 03:07 AM Windy, I think you were right in the first place, despite plenty of claims about it being an MG.
It turns out those pictures were of a disguised Brilliance A1,

Windy 04-16-2007, 07:49 AM Now I am glad it was not an MG - it looked better whan wearing its disguise

dragin 04-20-2007, 09:48 AM Thanks for the excellent photos CD and Martin.
Haven't owned a hatchback before but this is one I would really feel good about parking in my driveway. Brilliance doesn't turn out a lot of models but what it has turned out, are really pleasing to the eye.
Who is the designer of this well-proportioned, sleek looking machine?
As for the color, maybe a shade lighter would be OK. By the way how do Chinese react to this color? And, what colors do they prefer? Red is lucky, but then again I don't see that many red cars on the road. The red Junjie that China Driver posted looks great. Or maybe it's just that great Junjie styling that struck me once again.
Unlike the Japanese, I think Chinese avoid white because of the morbid associations with it.
ABC Ltd. 05-19-2007, 11:22 PM So Wendy's guess7hint was right, if one compare her spy shot with photos of Martin....
From a design viewpoint, the FRV is a fairly generic, slightly old-proportioned C-segment hatchback. Visually, the FRV bears resemblance to the Hyundai i30 that debuted at Geneva motorshow. Otherwise the car does have some distinctive design elements, such as the way the DLO wraps down into the front door shut; its pronounced fender forms and distinctive lights; and its lower body side crease that oddly breaks with convention and runs down as it goes rearwards.
I suspect that interior colour and material may have just been for the show and is not necessarily representative of the series-production FRV.
jmsteiny 05-20-2007, 05:23 AM I think that Brilliance has REALLY hit a "home run" this time with the FRV!! Nice blend of styling (curvy and sleek, but not a jelly bean) with SOME aggressiveness to it.......Dad can still look "cool" while driving it!! From what I've read, the target goal as far as price is in the 70-80,000RMB range (with luxury versions a bit higher)......this would give Brilliance a VERY solid entry in a new market segement - there making Brilliance (the name brand) availiable to a LOT more people potentially.
I've seen a few interior photos as well, if I can remember where I saw them I'll copy and post them here.
jmsteiny 05-24-2007, 08:17 PM OK, found a couple of interior pics.......nothing "earth shattering" - but it has a nice, "classy" feel to it. An interesting side note about the FRV....
Several internet news articles referred to the FRV as one of the most significant cars at the Shanghai auto show.....why?? First, it shows a willingness on the part of Brilliance to "take a step down" and offer a car in a lower price bracket.........and attract a whole new legion of customers as a result. Second (and more importantly), The FRV is seen as a MAJOR vehicle in Brilliance's export plans. Brilliance is the ONLY chinese auto company with a established dealer network in Europe (these news articles were european based), and the FRV is being looked at as a competitor for the VW Golf and it's peers. It gives Brilliance a nice "price point" vehicle in Europe, and even though it will never surpass the Golf in sales, the FRV COULD erode some of the Golf's market share.
I know I sure like the FRV, and I can't wait to see it for real!!!:thumb:

Joest 01-05-2008, 06:47 PM With their coupe and this hatchback, Brilliance might have a great future.
But the interior is just awfull. Even the Citroen C3 has better plastics!
I love the fake-wood gear knob. It's the surrealist touch!
jmsteiny 03-24-2008, 01:58 AM Looks like the FRV is "officially" going on sale March 31........with a price between 70-80,000rmb. I don't read chinese, but here is the link -

mememe 03-27-2008, 05:57 PM Very nice !
Is this comming to the Beijing auto show ?
jmsteiny 03-27-2008, 09:34 PM Simply put, this is a HRV killer. If Brilliance can keep the AT model (I've seen pics of the interior with a auto trans) at no more than 80,000rmb AND with better fuel economy than the HRV's 1.6l engine...........the HRV (as it presently is) is in SERIOUS trouble. Don't be surprised to see the BYD F3R drop in price as well, it's going to need a bigger cost advantage to compete! This is a beautiful car - I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing this soon.

jmsteiny 05-28-2008, 06:27 AM OK everyone, we FINALLY have prices for the FRV!!! There will be FIVE different models ranging from 1.3l to 1.6l engines - a base model 1.3 (58,800rmb), 2 1.6l MT models (63,800 and 68,800rmb) and 2 1.6l AT models (73,800 and 78,800rmb). GREAT prices for a GREAT looking car.........I feel sorry for the HRV not to mention the F3R. Potential Honda Fit buyers might also gravitate towards the FRV............I can't WAIT to see this car in person!!

Gotta love those apostrophic headlamps.....
Are they apostrophes to show Brilliance's anticipated ownership of the autoworld?
Or are they just commas to show that there is more Brilliance creative genius yet to come?
Rally Red Lancer GTS 06-02-2008, 11:28 PM The car looks much smaller when on the road in that picture as opposed to the still shots shown before the road shot. The car looks great in the picture on the road.

jmsteiny 06-06-2008, 12:53 PM OK, I had the chance to go to the Shenzhen auto show today (5 day show, it opened yesterday) and had a GREAT time. Saw most of the new cars out there (and some concepts, like the new Faira family of cars from Chery), but the highlight of the day for me was FINALLY seeing the FRV in person!
Brilliance only had one FRV at the show.......a red 1.6 AT model. I'm not really a fan of the FRV in red, but nevertheless it is still a very nice looking car in person. It is definitely smaller than the Junjie, but very close in size to the Buick HRV. The exterior is quite pleasing from all angles as I did a walkaround - nothing stuck out as far as being out of place or out of style. The interior in particular is GREAT - very comfortable to sit in and not cramped at all. The back seats offer wonderful leg room and have built in suit jacket hangers mounted on the back of the front seat headrests.....a nice feature. No DVD/GPS screen, but it does have automatic climate control, electric sunroof/moonroof, CD/MP3 player, power windows, door locks and mirrors....and a cool little cupholder on the far right of the front passenger seating area where a air conditioning vent would usually be (the a/c vent is a little higher up)......another nice little feature. Seating is firm and supportive and it just feels "classy" to sit in the car.
There have been plenty of pics posted already regarding the FRV, but I AM going to post on picture of the open back hatch. Usually in most hatchback cars, once you lift the "floor" of the rear hatch area, you will find the spare tire/tool kit underneath - NOT SO on the FRV. Under the "floor" is TWO fully carpeted storage bins, and then underneath that is the actual spare tire.........a REALLY NICE feature for hiding things you might wish to keep private.
I can't wait to see this car in Nanning so I can give it a test drive......but from my minimal first impressions I think it will be a pleasure to drive. Quality control with the FRV was good overall (a few little glitches here and there) and I also realize that this is a showroom car........it's probably been sat in hundreds of times already at the various auto shows. Overall - very nice car, great price and it SHOULD be a big success for Brilliance!!

martin_krpan 07-03-2008, 10:32 AM July 03, 2008 - Brilliance FRV - 6000 orders already.
Brilliance seem to hit the market right every time, first it was their BS6 - Probably the first good looking Chinese car ever made, secondly it was the smaller BS4; a runaway success. The Coupe seems to have found itself a niche market, but sales of that dont appear to be approaching critical mass yet, on the other hand, the Brilliance FRV will make up for any losses on the Coupe.
According to Shenzhen Automotive World News, total orders for the Brilliance FRV in the first month have reached 6000 cars.
The manual versions of the FRV will be delivered to customers in August, but those who opted for a manual version may well have to wait until September. Demend is reportedly greater than Brilliance’ can produce, leaving some customers with no choice but to wait. The base model of the FRV starts at 60,680rmb, which no doubt entices many younger customers who are on a budget.
The FRV is based on an entirely new platform from Brilliance, and will no doubt be a great seller in the coming months.
Brilliance Auto said over 6,000 Brilliance Junjie FRVs (flexible recreational vehicles) have been ordered since it went on sale on May 31, and the first batch of cars will be delivered to the customers in mid-July, reported Information Times yesterday.
A Brilliance dealer told the reporters that the order could be doubled if there are existing cars. Young consumers who buy cars for the first time have been found the major customers since FRV went on sale for a month, according to the dealer's estimation. As the production capacity of the facility is still not available, a lot of orders have been laid aside.
Now the facility has boosted its production and will deliver about 3,000 units to the market in July, with production capacity to be raised to 5,000 units by August, an insider of Brilliance Sales Co said.
Currently, the 1.6MT comfort model priced at 65,800 yuan can be got after one month, but another two 1.6L AT models should be waited for two months.
Though the FRV is in short supply, Brilliance Auto will not mark up its price, he stressed.

martin_krpan 07-25-2008, 08:47 AM Brilliance to export 500 Junjie FRVs to Egypt.
July 25, 2008 - Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd plans to export 500 Zhonghua Junjie FRVs to Egypt in the near future after having signed an agreement with Egyptian Royal Auto Trading Co, reports autosina.com today, citing sources from Brilliance International sales Co. The sales contract will be available soon.
Early in 2005, Brilliance cooperated with Royal Auto Trading Co, in exporting Zhonghua Zunchi cars for assembly and then Zhonghua Juejie and Jinbei Haishi as finished cars to Egypt. At the 2008 Beijing auto show, the Egyptian company took to Zhonghua Junjie FRV and expected to introduce the model into Egypt immediately.
When it was first unveiled in the Cairo auto show of Egypt on June 2, 2007, the Zhonghua Junjie FRV impressed local visitors with its fashionable outlook, stable performance, safety and eco-friendly quality.
Then Junjie FRV export to the Egyptian market were put on the agend of Brilliance, which is now set to export the first batch of 500 comfortable 1.6MT Zhonghua Junjie FRV cars to Egypt.

martin_krpan 01-05-2009, 10:25 AM According to China Car Times Brilliance is developing cross and sport version of FRV.
Brilliance are doing some amazing things in China recently, their FRV for example had an order book of over 5000 cars per month at one point. Brilliance now have two new models in the works to boost their FRV line up, the first one of which is this fantastic Crossover
The Brilliance FRV in standard form is a fantastic car, but the FRV Crossover is an amazing improvement. As for the engine, the FRV Crossover will be packing a 1.5l 1.6l Mitsubishi model, the same as the standard non crossover 1.6l.
The compact Crossover market was originally opened by the Suzuki SX4, but the quick additions of the VW Polo Cross, and Livina Crossover has seen the market segment explode with demand from consumers, and also a greater choice of cars especially from Chinese manufacturers.
The FRV Crossovers initial success may be short lived, both Chery and Geely both plan to launch crossovers this year, Chery will be launching the Faira Crossover and Geely will be bringing the Panda in crossover form to the table.
Edit: Its also come to light that Brilliance will be adding a 1.5l option to the line up as well as the 1.3l, and 1.6l offerings.

http://s2.mojalbum.com/kitajci-6-foto_4219952_14299293_14592381.jpg
In addition to the fantastic FRV Crossover, Brilliance also plan to launch the Brilliance FRV Sports model. Previously here at China Car Times we were praying hoping for a the FRV in 1.8T form, but it appears that Brilliance have opted to travel the 1.8 naturally aspirated path for the moment.
Initially it appeared that Brilliance were intent on building an FRV GT, complete with a 1.8 Turbo assisted engine, that could still happen if there were demand for such a vehicle, but the 1.8 Sports version is plenty of poke for the PRC as it is. We still prefer the original FRV GT, complete with the 1.8T, but as it stands, the FRV 1.8 Sports styling is still very appealing.
Will the launch of the FRV Sports encourage SAIC to release the MG3 ZR? We should hope so, the hot hatch market in China is a segment that has yet to be opened, and Chinese manufacturers should be looking towards unopened market segments in what is set to be a difficult 2009.

martin_krpan 02-19-2009, 02:09 PM Brilliance FRV Sedan Spotted Out Testing.
The Brilliance FRV has been a major success for Brilliance, following on from the success of their BS4, which followed on the success of the Brilliance BS6. It makes us wonder, can Brilliance make a car the people don’t want?
The FRV hatchback sells for around 50,000RMB, and was said to be the Brilliance BS4’s hatchback version, but it seems that the FRV is its own independent car, with a saloon version on the way.
The FRV Sedan was spotted out testing on the highway. The newly added rear end really compliments the FRV’s design. Its almost VW like in its simplicity, yet it is rather elegant.

Rally Red Lancer GTS 03-09-2009, 11:22 AM Looks like a nice package they have for sale there!
jmsteiny 03-10-2009, 09:17 AM I think this is the car that will make the crossover concept more "mainstream" in China - what a GREAT conversion from the standard FRV. If there is ANY 5 door hatchback in China that can work in a crossover version, it's the FRV. Let's see.....the CrossPolo? It looks like a 5 door hatch trying to act tough.....but not really succeeding. The Livinia crossover? Uh............no. Geely's King Kong 5 door hatch might work ok in a crossover variant, but it would depend on how they do it. There aren't many "crossovers" yet in China....I'd say the ONLY competition the FRV will have would be the MG3 SW....it's a older design than the FRV but the crossover version is nice. I'm curious to see what Brilliance is going to do with the interior of the FRV crossover......hope we can see some pics of the interior soon!:thumb:
The cars design by Brilliance is nice~! :thumb:

it's the same like in regular model of frv
jmsteiny 05-04-2009, 02:38 PM For a company who haven't make such good cars in the past, the FRV, FRV Cross and the FSV might just be the turnaround that Brilliance needs.
Fingers crossed.
Uh.........................maybe you could enlighten us as to which one of their cars is bad? I suppose the answer would depend on where you live and what cars you compare Brilliance with. Let's look at a few facts though:
Brilliance is the ONLY chinese auto company that has received almost unanimous praise for it's products - at least in China. The Galena, Junjie, FRV and sport coupe are all a success, and no doubt the FSV and FRV Cross will be as well. Brilliance is also the ONLY chinese car company that has cracked it's way into one the "big 3" markets (meaning Europe, the others being the USA and Japan) - they're still struggling there but at least they're going for it. Now.....if you compare Brilliance with any other company model it competes with in Europe (like the VW Polo), Brilliance DOES come up short - no surprise there. Like I said, it all depends on where you live and what cars you are comparing Brilliance to. In China, Brilliance is a model of success and proper planning - they are not trying to overwhelm the public with too many new models at the same time and they are not playing around with different logos or risky new brand names. Brilliance also received a bad rap for the unfair, biased ADAC testing recently of the Junjie - that whole "zero stars" safety rating was a load of crap and even the car media in Germany admits that. The cars that Brilliance make show consistent quality and durability (for a chinese branded car).......in Shenzhen they are even starting to use them as taxis(which says a lot about durability of a Brilliance). I would be proud to own a Brilliance - I've had my eye on the FRV for awhile now. I'm waiting for the FRV hybrid or maybe even the Brilliance EV (shown as a concept at Shanghai)......the EV looks great, is compact but roomy and it looks like it will see the light of production in 2011.
OK, enough rambling. I DO respect your opinion, KiwiGuy - but I hope you'll understand that from within China, Brilliance is highly regarded - for it's products, management style, market strategy and future plans. Brilliance is a highly successful company in the NUMBER ONE car market in the world (hmmmmm.....I guess the "big 3" aren't so big anymore) - I would say their future looks pretty bright.:thumb:
micodelija 05-04-2009, 03:02 PM yes, but only problem of brilliance is bad reputation of them together with european importer and their policy, also brilliance only got single approval from germany to import only 1000 units of vehicles, not in whole europe, only in germany
brilliance is good car, i have no doubts in that, i see that people in china also drive a brilliance with big respect but for european market, first of all they must get european type approval and after that all of other issues will be easier
KiwiGuy 05-05-2009, 02:55 AM I can understand that Brilliance is a good company that makes good cars, but in order to succeed in places outside of China, they need to shake off the bad reputation when they got slammed by the German media. I bet it still stings a bit, but maybe they should try other markets that might not be so biased, like here in New Zealand for exapmle. Chinese made buses and trucks are getting a warm welcome, and with Chery and Great Wall busy in Australia, they could try their luck here.
Just a thought anyway.
jmsteiny 05-05-2009, 03:47 AM I agree with both of you! Reputation goes a LONG way towards the ultimate success (or failure) of a company........and Brilliance's reputation WAS damaged by what happened because of ADAC in Germany. You might think that it only hurt Brilliance in Germany, but it goes beyond that - it ALSO hurt their reputation in China. Why? It was a story that spread here and got twisted and distorted, and damage control with something like this is VERY difficult to deal with. It seems to be diminishing now that more and more people are discovering the FACTS of the story rather than believing rumors. The good news is that Brilliance seems to be weathering it pretty well so far......and the strong showing of their new products in Shanghai didn't hurt them one bit.
KiwiGuy, I think New Zealand/Australia would be a GREAT target for Brilliance to aim for........what are the safety/crash/emissions test standards like there? Similar to Europe? America? Even though Brilliance managed to put their feet down in Germany, they still lag behind just about anything else sold there in terms of overall quality - in your opinion how would they be in the land down under? Competitive? I suppose they could be quite a bargain compared to many other cars there........are there any other chinese branded cars down there yet? If so, how are they doing?
KiwiGuy 05-06-2009, 04:26 AM Chery apparently have a dealership in Australia as well as Great Wall exporting 3000 pick up trucks there last year. New Zealand has mainly heavy commercial presence with King Long and Zonda firmly established here. We get second hand Japanese cars here and the government is trying to improve the quality of vehicles here, but I don't see why Brilliance should have any trouble entering NZ. Australia and Eurpoer have the crash/emissions/safety same standards as Europe I think, so it would be harder to enter Australia. But, Chery and Great Wall managed it, so why can't Brilliance?

KiwiGuy 06-07-2009, 05:44 PM FRV Cross is now selling in the Czech Republic. They sell two luxury models, one with manual, the other with an auto shift. Two engines are available, one being the Mistubishi engine and the other being Brilliance's own developed engine.

erik (laofan), cmvdc 06-10-2009, 02:45 AM Hi KiwiGuy, that is the trouble with these translation programs, they make up wonderful things like "Czech Republic", haha, the Chinese is 中华骏捷Cross俱乐部, which means Zhonghua Junjie Cross Julebu, or in English: Brilliance Junjie Cross Club! Nothing to do with Czech Rep.!
jmsteiny 12-02-2009, 10:22 AM I was up in Shenyang recently doing some teaching and clinics, and a couple of things interesting - Brilliance is VERY popular in Shenyang. I know, the Brilliance factory is in Shenyang, but I mean wow.........LOTS of Junjie taxis, and the FRV is all over the place there. One more interesting thing - I had the chance to ride in the FSV - a REALLY nice "small" car. Some friends of mine who are teachers there just bought one (they got rid of their Lova to buy the FSV.....I'd say a nice step up), they love it. I was in the back seat......plenty of room and not a cramped feeling. The back seat is a 60/40 fold down.....nice for carrying long items. Classy looking interior, with good comfortable seats. The heater kicks in quick and is powerful......important in a place like Shenyang because it's a 4 season city. Suspension is fine, it was firm without being too harsh and handled bumps well (chinese streets can be somewhat bumpy sometimes). Nice tight transmission from what i can tell (they have the 5 speed manual) - I've test driven a manual version of the FRV, it's the same engine and tranny and it was fine. Overall, a great car - it looks much better in person than in the pictures. I'd still choose the FRV because of the 5 door versatility, but the FSV is a great choice for people who want a classy small 4 door sedan - and for under 80,000 rmb!
KiwiGuy 12-02-2009, 06:29 PM I would expect this. It is common for many people who live in a region or city where there is a car manufacturer to buy a particular make. I'm not entirely sure, but if you go to where companies like Chery are based.

dragin 12-15-2009, 10:10 AM As I have said before about Brilliance, once again I would be happy to have this sharp looking hatchback in my driveway. I like the grille and headlamp treatment that give it a bold looking nose, the body rake with A pillar dip, and the overall smooth body lines. The only thing I would change is the taillight configuration. There's an angle there that doesn't match the otherwise unbroken lines.

ChevyVanDude 10-05-2010, 06:20 AM Hello all,
anyone know what the price will be of the FSV RS?
It looks allright, don't mind being in one....
As long as it doesn't drive :P
daewoo-chevrolet 10-29-2010, 12:25 PM CN Auto will represent Brilliance at the Brazilian market (after Jinbei and Hafei) and launched the Brilliance FRV Cross, FSV and Splendor (Zunchi/BS4) at the Salăo do Automóvel Săo Paulo. The FRV will be equipped with a 1.5 liter Mitsubishi engine and manual or four-speed automatic transmission with a maximum power of 104 hp. The price is estimated at R $ 55 thousand.
The FSV, with the same 1.5 engine, should be in a price range up to $ 70,000. Beside the airbags, ABS and power steering, the FSV brings standard features like keyless entry system for opening doors, engine start and sunroof. The price indication of the Splendor, with a 136 horsepower 2.0-liter engine is $ 75 thousand. But during the press conference, the director general of the brand said the model was brought into the hall just to test the receptiveness of the public and is not expected to arrive here. http://revistaautoesporte.globo.com/Revista/Autoesporte/0,,EMI182652-10142,00.html
