Italian car magazine "La Mia Auto" - July's issue has a story about Katay, the importer of Gonow SUV's and pick-up's in Italy. Katay itself is a part of DR Group which plans to import Feidie DR3 and DR5 SUV's to Italy. I don't speak Italian but this is what I found out from the article:

Katay Gonow Troy is a 4-door pick-up truck and it costs 13 990 euros. Katay Gonow Victory is a SUV and is priced at 15 990 euros. Engine in both cars is a 1930cc Turbodiesel of Italian origin and has 90hp. It passes Euro3 regulations. Guarantee is 4 years. CD player, DVD screen, manual air condition and metal colour comes with the price. Katay has built a brand new headquarters somewhere in Italy (atleast 14 cars are sitting in front of the headquarters in one picture).

Bertone may build vehicles for Chinese automakers:

Legendary Italian coachbuilder Bertone hasn't been doing so well, lately. Since 2005, it has only made a limited edition run of 2,000 MINIs. The company needs to make 30,000 cars per year to break even, and so has lost more than 37 million euros during that time.

In an effort to turn things around, the carrozzeria is in talks to build Chinese SUVs and pickup trucks for the Italian market. DR Automobiles Groupe is an Italian company that imports cars from Zhejiang Gonow Automobile. If it can strike a deal, Bertone would build two vehicles: the Katay Gonow Victory, an SUV based on the previous-gen Isuzu Rodeo, and the Katay Gonow Troy, a crew-cab pickup version of the Victory. They would only be contracted to build 7,000 of them, but it could help stave off complete disaster. Still, building vehicles for the Chinese is a long way from styling Italian exotics.

"DR Motor is considering hiring Bertone to build two SUVs and a pickup from complete knockdown kits. DR Motor initially planned to hire Bertone to assemble 7,000 units a year of the Katay Victory medium SUV and a double-cab pickup variant of the Victory called the Troy. DR Motor says it is considering adding the UFO, a medium SUV made by Jonway, to the proposed manufacturing deal. DR Motor plans to make a number of technical modifications to the UFO and market it with a name DR3. "We are considering making 12,000 combined units of three vehicles at Bertone", DR Motor CEO Luca Falasca told.

The DR Motor package still might not be enough to save Bertone. Bertone has a capacity for 70,000 units a year, but it needs to build 30,000 units to break even."

This company name just sounds weird "Gonow"

here is some photos from katay in italy, i didn't like the interior and old fiat diesel engine with 90 hp, i have chance to drive those cars and i am not so satisfied, that plastic inside look like old models of great wall, like deer and safe or shuanghuan ceo, i hear that new models will have mitsubishi gasoline engines and that italians will install JTD engine

they has gasoline engine mitsubishi - 93 kW / 6000 - euro 4 . Diesel euro 4 doesn´t have homologation yet ... payload is 610 kg, brake trailer is only 1150 kg.

Czech importer ( www.vanvliet.cz ) stopped homologation work on Katay cars without homologation approved and removed Gonow banner from their websites. I heard information about their contact with dr motor company about dr 1,2,3,5 cars.
Any other company for import to the Czech republic ???

hi i'm italian, bur i don't speak english :-( in Italy Gonow was imported from 2007 to 2009. We have the Victory and the Troy with 1,9 Turbo diesel Fiat with 90 & 110 HP, 2.0 16v CNG 125 HP (Metano CH4)...

purtroppo non hanno avuto successo a causa della rete di concessionarie inesistente, e a causa della scarsa affidabilità infatti queste auto si rompono spesso e danno parecchi problemi :-(

la DR importa anche le Chery Tiggo (DR5) e le Riich M1 (DR1) però DR ha avuto un sacco di successo, auto carine e abbastanza potenti (DR5 con 1.6 16V CNG and LPG 109 HP, 2.0 16V CNG and LPG 128 HP, 1.9 Multijet 120 HP)

L'importatore è cambiato e abbiamo aumentato la copertura di concessionari.
Dalla nostra presenza al motorshow (450mq di stand), in un anno difficile per il mondo dell'auto come questo, potrai intuire i buoni propositi di fare un ottimo lavoro.

I modelli che importiamo sono tutti con motore 2.0cc benzina ( mitsubishi) eliminando tutti i problemi riscontrati dalla vecchia distribuzione per il diesel (75% dei problemi riscontrati nei 3 anni di cui parli).

L'assistenza al cliente è fornita attraverso partner di rilevanza a livello internazionale quali AXA Assistance per esempio, 3 anni di copertura per il soccorso stradale.
Inoltre la gestione dei ricambi è localizzata in centro italia, di modo da fornire alle officine il più rapidamente possibile i ricambi richiesti.

abitando ad avellino ho visto solo un Troy, è carino esteticamente (anche se ricorda il Land Cruiser), perchè non montate (tramite un accordo) per l'Italia il più moderno diesel 2.0 Multijet della Fiat con 135 cavalli?

Al momento abbiamo le versioni Benzina e Bifuel (GPL). Stiamo valutando varie opportunità per il diesel considerando tutti i fattori di affidabilità e implementabilità sui nostri veicoli, oltre che al rimanere in una fascia di prezzo concorrenziale.
Si il GA200 ha il gruppo ottimo molto simile al Land, comunque per la zona di Avellino e Campania stiamo concludendo gli accordi di concessionarie proprio in questo periodo.

I'll answer u in English.

In Italy are sold with the original brand plates, GX6 and GA200.
The diesel version will be available in a few months, and being the vehicles Light commercial vehicles (N1 autocarro) it is still possible to homologate EURO IV. (till september 2010)

Strange News.
6 units of katay pick up trucks 4x4 doblbe cab arrived to Cape Verde.

The cars come fully equiped with leather seats, bars, cargo plastic cover but the engine is a 1.9 tdi. First time i see a car this big with this engine.
