It is learned from Gonow Auto in Zhejiang Province that, during the first half of this year, more than 6,500 automobiles have been exported, with about USD 39,000,000 earned. Therefore, 70.13% export plan for the year has been finished.

In recent years, Gonow, aiming to “building the world’s largest pick-up production base”, plays a positive role in international market. After exporting 161 Gonow brand pick-ups and SUVs to Europe in 2005, it has seized the opportunity to enter Burundi. Gonow has taken the lead in military vehicle export by a single order of 2,050 vehicles. On August 17th, 2006, Gonow Auto was entitled the “National Whole Vehicle Export Center Enterprise” by the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission.

This year, Gonow is increasing its effort for export certification, passing a series of certification including the Gulf Standard, South Africa’s SABS diesel oil and gasoline vehicle model certification, the Italian certification, the GCC in the Middle East, and the Russian pick-up certification. Gonow Auto raises auto prices first after China III.

July 7, 2008 - Zhejiang Gonow Auto Co., a Chinese private company specialized in producing pickups and SUVs (sport-utility vehicle), announced last week that it would raise the prices of its SUVs and pickups by 5% from July 1 when the China III emission standards took effect, Beijing news reports today.

By raising products prices, Gonow Auto purposed to ease the rising cost pressure pushed up by the newly-issued China III emission standards. It is also the first automaker in China to raise prices in such a competitive auto market.

The prices of Gonow SUVs will be increased to a level between 67,800 yuan ($9868) and 105,800 yuan, while the pickup to be between 63,800 yuan and 85,800 yuan.

Gonow Auto dares to improve the prices thanks to its maintenances of zero stock, high-efficient management and powerful service system, Chen Min, brand director of Gonow Auto said to Beijing news reporters.

"Our diesel-powered vehicles enjoy high price-performance ratio compared to products of their kinds, so there is potential of price rise”, Chen added.

Pickup maker Gonow to build $590 mln plant

Chinese pickup truck maker Gonow Group Co plans to invest 4 billion yuan ($590 million) to build a production base in eastern China with annual capacity of 300,000 units, its president said on Friday.

The company, with current production capacity of about 30,000 units a year, has already started construction on the first phase of the project in Dongying (Shandong province), with capacity of 150,000 pickups per year, Miao Xuezhong told media on the sidelines of an investment forum.

The first 50,000 units of capacity will be on-stream in the first half of next year, Miao said, although he did not indicate when the project would be completed. "We will build up the project in phases.

The total cost is estimated at 4 bn yuan," he said. Gonow is funding the project in the city of Dongying, in Shandong province, from its internal resources but Miao said he would not rule out bringing in outside investors.

i really doubt that new models of gonow can compare with GWM, first wingle pick up and hover by my opinion is better quality than gonow pick up's and suv's, also GWM have much better selling result at the market

by my opinion gonow models can be compared with old models of GWM, like safe, deer, pegasus etc, but with hover and wingle...difficult, selling result is alwasy best was to see how customers will accept that

Gonow Auto to sell cars via Gome appliance stores.

May 7, 2009 - Chinese minicar maker Zhejiang Gonow Auto Co., Ltd. has recently inked a strategic deal with Gome Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. to sell vehicles via the Gome stores, and in return the largest Chinese retailer of electrical appliances is likely to make cars jointly with Gonow.

It is the Chinese government's recently launched "home appliances to the countryside" and "vehicles to the countryside" programs that have brought the two companies together. Earlier this year, China released incentives and subsidies to stimulate domestic market demand and the countryside is a vast market. Under their strategic deal, Gonow and Gome will share each other's outlets nationwide.

Gome Electrical Appliances Co is one of China's largest chain companies retailing electrical appliances and other home appliances, with nearly one thousand stores in more than 240 cities across the country. Through Gome's expensive and strong sales network, the little-known Gonow mini vehicles will come closer to larger customer groups. Meanwhile, Gonow dealerships will also sell appliances for Gome.

While sharing the sales networks, the automaker and appliance retailer are also likely to make vehicles jointly in the future for further and deeper partnership, though neither company has confirmed this possibility yet. Sources said that both sides seem to be in talks over some details of their car-making joint venture.

Auto industry insiders noted that Gome has foreseen the market potentials of Gonow Auto, especially in the vast rural areas which will have huge demands for mini vehicles. On the other hand, the Gonow brand will gain popularity though Gome's widespread sales network. This may be a great win-win deal.

Bad news for Gonow in Soth Africa.

South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry agency, the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), on Friday ordered selective GoNow X-Space single and double cab bakkies, as well as Hafei Loda vehicles to be returned to the Chinese importer's dealers, as their rear fog lamps, fuel inlets and mirror indicators did not comply with regulations.

"We are requesting all consumers in possession of these vehicles to visit any dealership close to them to have their vehicles modified. This in the interest of their safety," said NRCS acting CEO Moses Moeletsi.

According to South African specifications, the rear fog lamp can be located in the centre, or on the right, but not on the left-hand side, as is currently the case, he explained.

Also, the mirror indicators to now be found on the vehicles were never present on the vehicles presented for homologation to the NRCS – or, compliance to the regulations. The fuel filler inlet on the petrol tank is also of the wrong diameter, and could allow diesel to be put into the vehicles.

"You can argue that these are small matters and that they do not pose a direct threat to consumers' safety, but deviations are not allowed. These are the South African specifications and they must be adhered to," said Moeletsi.

He emphasised that modifications were not allowed to vehicles without approval by the regulator.

"It is time we as a regulator crack the whip on this. The regulator is sending a message to the automotive industry. In the past you modified vehicles without coming to us, this must stop now."

Moeletsi said the regulator had already engaged GoNow on the situation, but noted that the company's failure to respond adequately had forced its hand.

He said should GoNow fail to take corrective action, all the vehicles in question would be returned to China.

Around 250 vehicles were affected.

It would also be possible for the Department of Transport not to register the vehicles in question for use on South African roads, or for the NRCS to halt the trading of these vehicles.

Moeletsi said the NRCS became aware of GoNow's contravention of the regulations through a process of routine checks, and not through a tip-off from a competing company.

The NRCS was established in September last year to "administer compulsory specifications and other technical regulations with the view to protect human health, safety and the environment". This incudes the automotive industry.

Moeletsi said around 80% of vehicles in South Africa met the compulsory specifications.

GoNow Auto South Africa failed to comment, despite several requests by Engineering News Online.

Gonow Auto's Iran plant rolls out first vehicle.

A pickup truck recently rolled off the production line at the Iranian plant of Zhejiang Gonow Auto Co., Ltd., the first vehicle that the company made at its overseas operations, hexun.com said today.

The Chinese automaker is producing vehicles in Iran in the form of knocked down (KD). The company started to prepare for building the plant in March 2008 and the mass production is scheduled to start in March 2010.

Gonow Auto, based in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, mainly offers technology to the Iranian plant, which will mostly produce pickup trucks and SUVs.

The output and sales of the plant will come at 15,000 units in the second year, rise 70% from the third year, and reach 50,000 in the fifth year.

In recent two years, Gonow Auto has expanded in the overseas markets. In addition to the Iranian project, it is also working on two KD projects separately in Egypt and Thailand, aiming to cover the East African and ASEAN markets.

China's Gonow returns to SA

Gonow has announced a new distributor for the southern Africa region, effective May 2010.

The original South African distributor, Gonow Auto SA, reportedly bowed out of South Africa in 2009 when it was unable to sustain the economic downturn.

However, South Africa is key to Gonow’s global expansion plan and the decision was taken to reintroduce the label into this country via new distributor Vermillion Motor Holdings, which has been established as a multi-brand importer and distributor of automotive products from China.

Homologation inspections on Gonow products were conducted by NRCS (previously SABS) inspectors in November 2009 and new models are expected to arrive in South Africa shortly.

Vermillion Motor Holdings will officially be launched towards the end of May 2010. Dealers have been appointed in major South African cities as well as in Botswana and Zambia, with more being negotiated, the company said.

Vermillion conceded that existing Gonow owners lost warranty support and suffered a severe parts shortage following the previous distributor’s closure, but added a new warranty programme has been established to assist affected owners and that the first consignment of parts to support the existing car park has arrived.

This info comes as a surprise. Can someone tell us where these four plants are located? I know there is one in Taizhou City. And I heard that Gonow had acquired the old Hanjiang Auto SOE in Shaanxi, so I'm guessing there is one there. But the others I don't know.
As for exports, I knew that Gonow exported to Italy, Egypt, Uruguay, and a couple of African countries, but where else among the 80 destinations I don't know.

During a visit to South Africa in 2009 to review the situation Ruan Zaosheng, the Gonow general manager, confirmed the high value they place on the South African market within their global expansion plan.
Gonow has four manufacturing plants in China, boasting an annual production capacity of 385 000 units, and has exported to more than 80 countries.
As a first step the manufacturer established its own company in South Africa, China Gonow Auto SA . The company aim is to homologate product for Southern African markets and provide technical support to the SA distributor and its dealer network.
The new distributor is a new import distribution company. It has been established specifically to operate as a multi-brand importer and distributor of automotive product from China.

SHAREHOLDERS
The closure of the previous distributor resulted in the loss of warranty support for existing Gonow owners, and a severe shortage of parts in the country. There are over 3 000 Gonow units in SA affected.
Although Gonow had already provided the previous distributor with warranty support that is now lost, a new limited warranty programme has been established in conjunction with the company.
This is to assist these Gonow owners and also support new vehicles still in the dealer network. New Gonow product is expected to arrive in SA at the close of the first quarter.
The company will launch officially late this month. Dealers have been appointed in major centres in South Africa also in Botswana and Zambia.
