If production version will look at least slightly like this one, it will be by far the most beautiful Geely ever made.

It is a copy of the Toyota Aygo (Only a few details changed). And it is not the only copy in Chinese of the same model.

Please tell us more how it is a copy, I have to admit that this is really an ugly design but after looking at it and the Toyota Aygo carefully I failed to see any similarities between this Aoo and the Aygo except for the shape of the car that look similar, You can say that about the BYD F1 but to me this Aoo looks more like the Chery QQ

Notice on the sides, the shapes of doors, the clean windshield, the rear window of the door pivot, the rear door glass .... Just change relative to the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1 to details like the shape of the front, rear lights, rear bumper and the dashboard.

More than half of the car was a Citroen C1 or a Toyota Aygo.

Thank you AG225 but after following your descriptions , again I failed to see the similarity between the C1 (Aygo) and the Aoo, or maybe my eyes are bad , but 1 thing I find similar that you mentioned is the shape of the door, other than that I think nothing else on the Aoo can fit into the idea of a C1 or Aygo copy really, btw I don't know how you come to the conclusion that the rear window of Aoo and the rear window of C1( Aygo) look the same.

PS : Damn the C1 and the Aygo look so alike. I actually never compared the Aygo and the C1 before.

And the Lifan one looks a lot like a C1 rather than an Aygo

As you probably now P.S.A. Group ( Peugeot and Citroen ) share a model with Toyota.
Toyota ygo = Citroen c1 = Peugot 1007. To make it even more interesting the petrol engine used in the toyota is the 3 cylinder twin cam made by daihatsu thats used in the new sirion

Yes, according to article on Gasgoo.com front part of the car is indeed designed to look like giant panda.

China's largest private carmaker Geely Automobile plans to launch a mini-car with its front part resembling a giant panda, the national emblem for China, by August next year, said a company official.

"Geely will launch a model that looks like a giant panda in appearance and that may be the first model to carry our new logo," said Geely's vice president Wang Ziliang.

The model under the codename Lc-1 will be equipped with Geely's self-developed engine and it offers two-door or four-door options. Earlier this month the company just launched its new logo designed by a college student.

In the first ten months of the year, Geely sold 149,843 vehicles, up 12.4 percent from one year earlier. The automaker said on Monday it aims to sell 20,000 vehicles this year and 40,000 vehicles by 2008.

No. Chinese for panda is 熊猫 'xiong mao', which is going to be the actual name of this new car. I wonder what the English name will be, though...

Geely to show "Panda" at Beijing auto show.

March 4, 2008 – Geely Automobile will display its new mini-car with its front part resembling a giant panda, the national emblem for China, at the upcoming Beijing auto show running from April 20th - 28th, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Geely will take a 1500 square meters display platform to display more than 20 models at the Beijing auto show this year, including Panda mini car and Maple Haiyue hatchback," said Liu Jinliang, general manager for Shanghai Maple Automobile Co, a subsidiary of Geely Motors.

The Panda will be equipped with Geely's self-developed CVVT 1-liter engine and the model offers two-door and four-door options. It is expected to be priced between 30,000 and 50,000 yuan.

The automaker will also introduce a five-door hatchback King Kong compact and a 1.8-liter China Dragon sports car, a King Kong sedan, King Kong AT and two CNG dual fuel cars this year.

The Geely Group, China's largest privately owned automaker makes and sells cars through its two units, Zhejiang Geely Automobile Co. and Shanghai Maple Automobile Co.

The Geely Group sold a total of 219,512 vehicles last year, an increase of 7 percent from a year earlier. The group hopes to raise its sales 18 percent this year to 220,000, Geely Chairman Li Shufu said earlier.

Geely Panda minicar with Eagle logo to sell in September.

July 3, 2008 - Geely Auto recently announced that its all-new Panda model will carry the new "Geely Eagle" logo when the mini-car goes on sales in September. Last week, Geely Auto began to set up an independent sales network, according to sina.com.cn. The Panda minicar of the Geely Eagle series will sell for 40,000 yuan ($5,832), a low price to rival the popular Chery QQ and other cheap mini-cars in China.

The Panda mini-car is the first all-new model after Geely Auto recent strategic transition and also the first "Geely Eagle"-labeled model, said Liu Jinliang, general manager of Geely's sales company. It marks the debut of the "Geely Eagle" series, which will be expanded each year with the growth of Geely Auto, China's largest privately owned automaker.

Because new models will be added to the Eagle lineup in the year ahead, Geely Auto has started to build a special sales network and the Panda car will be the first model for sale via this network in September. The current 300 dealerships of Geely can apply to join the Eagle series sales network, and Geely Auto will recruit a number of highly qualified dealers to expand this network.

The Panda, with its front part resembling a giant panda, is equipped with Geely's self-developed CVVT 1-liter engine and the model offers two-door and four-door options. Geely Auto displayed the Panda mini-car, among other models, at the 2008 Beijing auto show in April.

See also the above view (door open) from the side of the car. Granted show cars are subject to abuse, but these components must endure the worst possible abuse from rental customers, taxicab drivers, etc..

Geely say: “Small cars can be VIP too” - We’re tempted to agree

The Geely Panda is allegedly going onto the market after the Guangzhou Auto show next month, we always wondered why Geely did show off 23 prototypes at the previous auto show, when it was the Panda that looked closest to becoming a reality, but never mind that, it seems the Panda is ready to roll.

The Panda is built to all of the highest standards for small cars according to Geely, who seem to have gone some way in showing that small cars dont mean dangerous anymore, especially when they come jam packed with airbags like the Panda does. The Chinese media are alreadly calling the Panda ‘The least like a Geely product’, (perhaps because it looks pretty good compared to previous Geely products) and they’ve also called the car to watch in 2008. Engine power for the Panda is derived from a 1.3l DOHC engine which can reach 165kph per hour, and can produce 110nm of power at 3800rpm, and is interestingly, Euro 5 compliant.

If the QQs, the Mini, and the Smart were really smart, then they would be New Energy like this Panda. The girls are sure to love it and never miss the torque that we guys insist on thrusting us back in the seat.
Nice move Geely.

Geely, Yulon to jointly sell Panda car in Taiwan.

January 13, 2008 - Geely Auto Holdings Group, mainland China's top private automaker will cooperate with Taiwan's largest automaker Yulon Motor Co, to build "Panda" cars for the Taiwan market, Chinanews.net said, citing Geely Auto Group.

The two companies are likely to work under the CKD form and assemble cars in Taiwan. Geely's small car Panda is expected to be the first Chinese mainland produced car to go to Taiwan.

Taiwan's auto industry, badly hit by the global economic crisis, suffered a big decline of last year's car sales to 220,000 units. But it seems a good opportunity to roll out cheap people cars, as Yulon Motor anticipated.

The Taiwan automaker expects to achieve sales success by promoting cheap car Panda, which Geely said to be priced at NT$320,000 (US$9,620).

Geely Auto to launch Eagle Cross model.

April 7, 2009 - About one year after the global debut of its Eagle Panda minicar, private Chinese carmaker Geely Auto will launch the Cross model of its Eagle series in late 2009, said xinhuanet.com today.

Geely Auto said it has completed the development of its Eagle Cross version and will put it into volume production soon. There is no big change in the chassis, powe-rtrain and many other aspects, only with some different exterior look and interior decoration.

Some Cross elements have been added to the car body of the Eagle Cross to make this vehicle look more sporty and dynamic. The top is fitted with the luggage rack and the rear is equipped with the spoiler. In the interior deco, the Geely eagle Cross has included some sporty design. The chairs in red and white have their covering made of more breathable fabric.

A Geely insider said that this Eagle Cross is likely to be launched in the second half of this year. Its retail price will be a bit higher than the ordinary Geely Eagle which is priced at 53,800 yuan ($7,880) to 66,800 yuan.

Up to now, Geely Auto has released only one model of its Eagle series -- Panda minicar. By the end of this year, the carmaker will launch two more Eagle models: the Panda 1.0L and Eagle Cross.

Geely Auto aims to sell 50,000 Eagle-brand vehicles in 2009, with Geely Panda minicar's sales forecasted to top 30,000 units. The company will set up 150 or so 4S stores for its Eagle series.

This car will be available in the Philippines starting this month!!

I have not seen the car on the streets yet. Any idea as to how much this car cost exactly in Philippine peso? All I read about was about 300T, if that is true....I want one! :thumb:

From the pictures, externally, it is pleasing. I just wish they made a space for the front license plate, because it seems it is going to cover part of the front grill they are so proud of.

It certainly looks better internally than the Chana Benni. Sure, I see plastic every where, but at least it looks well made with excellent fittings. It's tone colors are pleasing to the eyes as well.

At first glance, I immediately saw the odometer and tachometer. I was looking for the other 3 gauges, and noticed they are all clumped together as a digital meter. So the gas gauge, battery gauge, and distance travelled will all be digitalized. Nice...but I still prefer separate ones.

Otherwise...EXCELLENT! I can't wait to read reviews and car test drives about this car. If the price is right...by next year I will be driving one for sure. :)

Yulon aims to export Geely Panda-based EV to mainland

August 6, 2009 - from Gasgoo.com
Yulon Motor Co, Taiwan's largest automaker by market value, plans to export its first own-brand pure-electric car using the platform of Geely Automobile Holdings's Panda model to China's mainland market, the China Economic News Service reports.

Chen Kuo-rong, president of Yulon Motor, said that the company has already completed the development of an electric variant of the Geely Panda model at its Sanyi (Taiwan) plant and it is still negotiating with Geely to export the model to the mainland market.

Yulon's plan is to take advantage of the planned removal of cross-straits automotive shipment tariffs to export the cars to the mainland. The new car model will be sold in export markets under the Tobe brand.

Yulon was reported this January to have plans to team up with Geely to build Panda cars under CKD form at Yulon's Sanyi plant in Miaoli.

Martin this comes as a surprise because one would think that Geely would want to exercise strict intellectual property (IPR) rights on this unique Panda model which they have proudly developed.

Yes, I know, I can't believe I would be talking about protection of IPR and Geely in the same sentence.

But seriously, Yulon has, if anything, been a competitor of Geely since it has been closely tied to Dongfeng in the Aeolus tie-up for many years. In fact, it has a new tie-up with both Dongfeng and Zhejiang Zhongyu Auto in the Luxgen Motor Co.

Gasgoo's mention of the January talks between Geely and Yulon about CKD assembly, also came as a surprise. Were these talks mentioned earlier in the year here at CCF? It so I missed it.

That is great! I don't know how the American market would accept it but it looks like they've done a great job with the all-electric version of the Panda. I'm all for it-export it to faraway lands and it should be a hit. Probably not as much in mature markets. They might like it in Europe, however, with their narrow streets. For around town use over there, perhaps. I think it looks as cute as a bug. If it holds up the electric Panda should sell fairly well for Geely.

We were talking about color combo's the other day on one of the CCF threads. The lime green on the electric Panda works well with the white exterior. It's when you contrast a solid color for the interior that doesn't match at all with a solid color on the exterior that I have serious problems with it.

I agree with you about the color combo, Lancer.........the white and green work nicely together. White is a neutral color and mixes with any other color.....and the green Geely uses is a nice "earth" tone. I REALLY REALLY hope Geely will consider selling this car in China as well as Taiwan - what a perfect city car this could be. I just looked at some of the specs on this thing...........172km/h top speed, and 160km distance between charges (averaging 40km/h) - pretty damn amazing. Geely and Lynx launch electric Nanoq at COP15

Chinese car company, Geely, has made an interesting appearance at the COP15 in Copenhagen with its new electric car.

The car is made in co-operation with the Danish company Lynx which has developed its electrical components and a new state-of-the-art lithium battery pack.

Geely and the Danish electric car developer Lynx Cars and Danish Positive batteries have their focus on lowering C02 emission with the new Geely Panda powered by Lynx.

The car is a five-seater family car, powered by a new electric motor system from Lynx and a new state-of-the-art battery called Positive. The car has a top speed of 130 km/hour and has a range of 200 kilometers per charge.

In Asia and the Middle East, the car will be branded “Geely Panda“, powered by Lynx, and in USA and Europe it will be branded “Geely Nanoq“, also powered by Lynx. “Nanoq“ means “polar bear“ in Greenland.

One of the focal points of lowering C02 emissions is to protect the ice cap of Greenland. So it makes sense to use the story of the Polar bear in the countries outside Asia to make a direct link with the benefit of driving electric.

The car made a big impact when driving around the streets of Copenhagen during the COP15. And it gave China a great reputation for actively doing something about C02 emission.

Among the people who saw or drove the car were: Mr Wen Jiabao; His Royal Highness Prince Frederik of D
enmark; actor, Jet Lee; Mr Richard Branson; US governor Mr Arnold Swarzenegger, and many more. According to Geely and Lync all were very excited about this charming car.

The car will be ready for sale in Europe as the first territory in spring 2010.

The batteries are the same as in the LYNX GT, a record-breaking pure electric sports car with 1,072 horsepower.

Extreme discharge capacity and extreme fast-charge capability are some of the cornerstones of the battery pack from Positive Energies. And at the same time the battery pack is award-winning for its safety features.

The Lynx GT is already famous in Scandinavia. The car has appeared at many shows to show off its fantastic speed and acceleration: 0-100 km/hour in less than three seconds and a top speed of over 300 km/hour.

Let us just hope that the electric Geely Panda will receive a proper media and public awareness in the Middle East and North Africa, where a lot of traffic-congested cities are in desperate need of such an environment-friendly car.

This is a nice looking SUV, makes me wonder how decent the mechanicals would hold up in it. Nice job, Geely!

Those are some pretty tiny wheels on that SUV, wpuldn't want to go offroading in that thing. Also, when looking at the dash I couldn't help but notice that the LEDs are exactly the same as my 93 Corolla.

is the Cross actually 4wd?

i would say they have a car that western audiences potentially would buy

if it's ncap5 euro5 with a good 1.5 engine it might work

western audiences will like more power... maybe a direct injection turbo 4

Hi Tony:
Reports were that it would initially be introduced with a 1.3L and 5spd manual trans. I really doubt that it could handle a 4WD or AWD powertrain, even with the 1.5L promised later.

Geely to sell Panda EVs in mainland China

February 12, 2011
Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. has deepened the cooperation with Taiwan's Yulon Motor Co., Ltd., and will become the dealer of Geely Panda electric vehicles (EVs) in Mainland China, disclosed Yang Xuliang, an executive for the Mainland China-based company.

Since 2009, both sides have jointly brought the Geely Panda to the Taiwanese market. Thanks to the efforts of Yulon Motor, the Tobe, an EV product of the Geely Panda came into being.

Previously, the Tobe priced at about CNY 100,000 successively marched into Southeast Asian markets, such as Vietnam and the Philippines. In 2011, it will make inroads into Mainland China.

As its mainland dealer, Geely will copy Taiwan's Tobe sales network. Although the intellectual property right of the Tobe still belongs to Yulon Motor, the mainland company will still be able to better know the mainland EB market along with the Taiwanese partner.

In the production field, Geely has never stopped expanding its business. Days ago, its president Yang Jian aired that the company separately contacted Foxconn Technology Group and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) for the cooperation in new energy vehicles and intellectual automobiles.

On March 28, 2010, the Geely Chairman Li Shufu and Ford Motor CFO Lewis Booth entered into an agreement in the Volvo Goteborg headquarters upon the acquisition of Volvo Car Corporation. The Chinese company was to take over the entire Swedish car company, including equities, assets and intellectual properties, at a consideration of USD 1.8 billion, according to previous reports.

On January 25, 2011, Freeman Shen, chairman for Volvo China, stressed that Volvo Car Corp. would run independently in China in the future.

As a unit of Geely, Volvo Car Corp. will operate its business independently from its parent company in China, sticking to its luxury brand positioning and environmental-friendly philosophy, according to the chairman. It inaugurated its China headquarters in Jiading, Shanghai, eastern China on January 25, 2011.

After setting up a management team for its China operations, it has started working on a five-year expansion plan for an approval from the Volvo global executive team and the board of directors.

With China as its second largest market at the moment, Volvo Car Corp. successfully put an end to a two-year business decline and return profitable in 2010. It will not only R&D and manufacture Volvo cars but also provide services such as outsourcing and after-sales services in Shanghai in the future, noted the chairman.
