Soueast (SEM) is authorized to produce vehicles with the brand of Mitsubishi and it will learn from Mitsubishi's expertise through the cooperation, said Soeast (SEM) president Lin Yuzhang.
Mitsubishi was optimistic about the Chinese market and hoped to build SEM into its production and sales base of sedans, multi-purpose vehicles and light commercial vehicles, said president Osamu Masuko.
SEM is the largest auto joint venture with investment from across the Taiwan Straits, producing and selling 300,000 vehicles every year.
It was jointly founded in 1995 with a registered capital of 138 million U.S. dollars by Fujian Auto Industrial Co., Ltd and China Motor Corporation of Yulon Enterprise Group, the largest auto group in Taiwan.
Under the new agreement, Fujian Auto Industrial will keep its 50 percent shareholding while the Taiwan company will transfer some of its shares to Mitsubishi.
Mitsubishi holds 14 percent of the motor corporation of Yulon (Yue Loong) and has been providing technologies for SEM, according to Lin Yuzhang.

Xinhua news:
"China's Soueast Motor Co. Ltd. has clinched its biggest ever export deal with Iranian companies to sell 8,000 cars to Iran next August. The 8,000 Soueast Delica cars, bought by Mehreghan Co. and its agent Setareh Nik Aria Vehicle Manufacturing Co., will be used to replace rundown taxis in Iranian cities.
Soueast Motor, based in southeast China's Fujian Province, has won the lion's share of the Iranian government's plan to replace 15,000 taxis in 2007, according to a report on the company's website. But the company did not reveal the price of the exported cars.
The export deal is a major breakthrough for Soueast Motor, which is trying to promote its products on the international market, said Ling Yuzhang, board chairman of the company. To boost the export of cars and parts, the Chinese government is planning to set higher requirements for the country's car exporters. Soueast Motor was among the first 44 car exporters to be approved by the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission in August of this year."
thats great for souest motor
dragin 01-02-2007, 12:54 PM Xinhua news:....... Soueast Motor was among the first 44 car exporters to be approved by the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission in August of this year."
"Manufacturers that had only nominal exports or failed to guarantee their product quality or provide solid after-sale service would be banned from automobile exports to prevent further damage to the reputation of Chinas car industry" according to Chong Quan of the Ministry of Commerce last August(to Xinhua News Agency).
But who are these 44 car exporters? Does anyone have info on who is being refused the license to export? It may turn out to be a life or death decision for some of China's smaller makers who currently are not competing well in the home market.
Anyway the news story shows great progress for Soueast which generally keeps a low profile, but who steadily turn out a decent product. All their suppliers are almost in their backyard, so it keeps costs down.
dirextor 03-14-2008, 03:15 PM Hello everybody!

So, it's no surprise that in China, he makes a few speech at SouEast Mitsubishi

martin_krpan 03-17-2008, 12:13 PM Soueast to launch two new car models in 2008.
March 17, 2008 –China’s Soueast (Fujian) Motor Co. will launch two new models during 2008, the company announced on its official web last week.
The two vehicles, which include a self-developed A-segment model and a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) developed jointly with Mitsubishi, will be shown at the Beijing International Motor Show in April. The Beijing International Motor Show will open April 22 through 28.
By introducing these two models, Soueast has not only further expanded its product lineup, but also increased its research and development capability and cooperation with Mitsubishi and Chrysler, the company said in the official announcement.
Jian Qinglong, general manager of Soueast Motor Co said, the company plans sell 80,500 vehicles this year, up 34 percent from last year.
Soueast is a 50-25-25 joint venture (JV) between Fujian Motor Industry Group, Taiwan's China Motor Group, and Mitsubishi Motors, respectively.
martin_krpan 04-15-2008, 12:36 PM Mitsubishi will launch six new models.
As part of the company's Step Up 2010 mid-term business plan announced at the end of February, China will become one of Mitsubishi's focus markets. As such, Mitsubishi on Tuesday announced it will launch six new models into the quickly growing market in the next three years, including three built in China. The headliner and the first of the six new vehicles will be the company's performance flagship, the Lancer Evolution, one of 13 models Mitsubishi will have on display at the Beijing International Motor Show starting next week.
With the China launch, Mitsubishi will have all the major markets covered with the latest Evolution, as the high-performance AWD sedan is already sold in the home market of Japan, as well as Europe, North America and Australia.
Three high-volume vehicles will be assembled in China, including the Pajero SUV, Galant mid-size sedan and Lancer X-Speed. The Galant is based on the North American Galant, with unique detail changes inside and out, but is powered by the same 2.4-liter inline four that makes 160 horsepower in the U.S.
It and the Lancer X-Speed, which sounds basically like a dressed up, FWD, non-turbo Lancer sedan aimed at a younger demographic, will be built at South East Motor in China's Fujian Province. Mitsubishi Motors holds a 25 percent stake in the plant along with China Motor Corp, with Fujian Automotive Industry Group owning 50 percent.

Rally Red Lancer GTS 04-17-2008, 12:09 AM The Mitsubishi Lancer X-Speed would probably have some of the same fittings as my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. It sounds like what is being described above, especially if the X-Speed offers the CVT automatic transmission with the 6 forward and back paddle shift "gears." Leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-covered gearshift knob, foglights, sunroof, 650-watt Rockford Fosgate stereo, etc. It's been a very nice ride for me so far. The bodykit is only offered on the GTS Lancer for 2008 so if the X-Speed comes from the factory with the bodykit it is indeed a Lancer GTS called X-Speed for the Chinese market.
dirextor 04-30-2008, 04:36 PM At recently past exhibition in Pekin (if I am not mistaken) Soueast motor company has presented new model - Lioncel 2 and pair of conceptcars. It was unexpected, cos till this moment I did not meet concepts from Soueast. Correct me if it necessary...
Today I had a dialogue with the chief director of Soueast importer in Ukraine. He has informed that Lioncel 2 already in plans to import in our country, it is necessary to coordinate the price only...

martin_krpan 05-13-2008, 11:58 AM Mitsubishi to export 168,000 China-made engines.
May 13, 2008 - Mitsubishi Motors will export around 168,000 engines built in China to overseas markets, a source familiar with the case told Beijing Morning Post on Monday.
The report cites the source as saying that 40%of the 420,000 engines Mitsubishi plans to build in China will be exported to markets such as Japan and Europe.
Wall Street Journal reported on April 22 that Mitsubishi Motors is to double its engine manufacturing capacity at its Chinese unit in Shenyang to 420,000 engines a year by 2010.
Construction of a second plant at its existing facilities south of Shenyang should be completed by early 2009, according to Mitsubishi's plan. The facility will be used to produce small engines ranging from 1.0L to 1.6L.

martin_krpan 05-14-2008, 01:22 PM Mitsubishi to make new Lancer with Southeast
May 14, 2008 - Mitsubishi is counting on the redesigned Lancer to boost its flat sales in China.
The imported new generation of Lancer Evolution sedan will go on sale in China this autumn. Meanwhile, two more versions of the redesigned Lancer -- a family car and a sporty model -- will be assembled at its joint venture, Southeast (Fujian) Motors Corp. in Fujian next year.
Both versions will be fitted with 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter engines imported from Mitsubishi's facilities in Japan. The transmissions will also be imported from Japan.
The initial localization rate of the new Lancer will be around 50 percent, says Alan Yih, deputy general director of the company's marketing department.
Production of the two sedans is expected to start in the second half of 2009, and a hatchback version will be available in the first half of 2010.
Yih says it's too early to comment on capacity and sales of the new Lancer.
He says whether Southeast will continue to manufacture the previous generation of the Lancer after production the new Lancer starts is still under discussion.
Some international automakers sell two generations of the same models in China at the same time. For instance, while keeping the previous Elantra in the market, Beijing Hyundai Motor Co. launched the new Elantra sedan in April.
In addition to the redesigned Lancer, a Mitsubishi crossover with 2.0-liter engine produced by Southeast will hit the China market in the second half of 2008.
At the Beijing auto show in April, Ling Yuzhang, chairman of Southeast Motors, says Southeast will introduce at least one international brand model each year over the next few years.
Besides the Mitsubishi Lancer and Galant sedans, Southwest also assembles the Chrysler Grand Voyager and Dodge Caravan for Chrysler LLC under a licensing agreement with the American automaker.
Southeast is 25 percent owned by Mitsubishi. It now produces the previous Lancer sedan, the Soveran wagon and the Galant sedan under the Mitsubishi brand. Sales of the three models in 2007 were 36,734 units.
Ling says Mitsubishi will allow Southeast to assemble more of its models customized for the China market. To date, Southeast only assembles Mitsubishi-badged models that have already been launched in the United Stated and Europe.

martin_krpan 05-23-2008, 10:42 AM Southeast Motor rolls out new cars one by one.
May 23, 2008 - Although Southeast Motor (SEM) only sold 60,000 vehicles last year and about 80,000 units up to now this year, Ling Yuzhang, director of SEM, has still shown his confidence that SEM could enter China's top 10 passenger carmakers, which are expected to sell at least 300,000 units.
SEM has regained sales growth since last year and has constructed four platforms for SouthEast, Mitsubishi, Chrysler and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It is enough for every platform to produce 20,000 units. He also said that the latest-generation Mitsubishi Galant would be introduced to China next year. New Mitsubishi Lancer will be introduced for local production next year; V3 and Mitsubishi Zinger will be delivered this year.

The latter is mainly used in Mitsubishi Galant ES and Mitsubishi Galant sports cars.
Besides Galant, the new Lancer of the Mitsubishi brand will be launched next year. Powered by a 2.0L MIVEC engine which generates 152hp and a six-speed SportronicR CVT, the all-new Lancer is expected to be more expensive than the current Lancer.

martin_krpan 06-27-2008, 04:53 AM Mitsubishi licenses AT tech to Dongan Auto Engine
June 27, 2008 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation yesterday signed a technology licensing agreement with its powertrain joint venture enterprise in China Harbin Dongan Automotive Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. for 4- and 5-speed automatic transmissions (AT).
Dongan Automotive began construction work on a new factory in March this year that is scheduled to commence production in April 2010. The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units and will produce 50,000 units in its first year of operation. With this addition, the Dongan plant's combined capacity will rise to 300,000 units / year. In 2007, the plant had sales volume of 280,000 units. Mitsubishi says the production capacity will be raised to meet future increases in demand.
In 1998 Mitsubishi made a 15.3-per cent equity investment in Dongan Automotive Engines and has to date provided engineering and technical assistance covering the production of engines ranging from 1.3-litre to 2.0-litre and of 5-speed manual transmissions. The automatic transmission license agreement signed yesterday will lead to a further handing of Japan's engineering technology and its commitment to the Chinese auto engineering firm .
The technology transfer will allow Dongan Automotive to supply core automotive parts not only its own group companies but also to other automobile manufacturers in China and will contribute to further growth and development of the Chinese automobile industry. The building up of a locally-based production system will allow Mitsubishi to meet AT market needs which are expected to increase on the back of the growth of the car market in China.
The signing of the licensing agreement was attended by, among others, MMC President Osamu Masuko, Vice Chairman of Preparatory Committee of China Aviation Industry Corporation, Vice President Liu Tao Avi China Industry & Technology Company Limited, Board Chairman & President Ma ChuanLi DAE, Governor Li ZhanShu The Peoples' Government of Heilongjang Province, Mayor Zhang XiaoLian The General Office of the Peoples' Government of Harbin, and Mitsubishi Corporation Motor Vehicle Business Division COO Kozo Shiraji.
