Skoda, once the butt of all motoring jokes, has turned itself around since the VW takeover and has actually turned out some decent, reliable metal for motorists all over the world. Skoda recently re-arrived in China after a long absence with the Skoda Octavia via the SAIC-VW tie up. The Octavia was well received in China, as all new brands generally are but seeing as Skoda is currently a one car brand in China, the Fabia will only go to increase Skodas market share. The Fabia is based off of the VW Polo platform and will be going into the small car segment where competition can only be described as fierce, with competitors from both domestic and foreign markets. The Skoda Fabia is expected to sell in the 80 to 90,000rmb price range, which is double the QQ6.

The Skoda Fabia has been due to turn up in the PRC for a while, it seems the Fabia is pretty much ready for the market, and should be up for sale early next year.

Skoda have seen breakneck sales in the past year since it was launched, it often gets up into the top ten sales in the sedan segment.

Skoda Fabia to hit Chinese market by the second half next year.

Skoda Fabia will be introduced to Chinese market by the second half of 2008, said a senior official from the Skoda arm of Shanghai Volkswagen.

"We have obtained the authorization from the automaker to import Skoda vehicles,” said Fu Qiang, deputy manager of the Skoda arm of Shanghai Volkswagen. “The preparatory work for the arrival of Skoda Fabia is still under way.”

Fu also indicated that Fabia’s local production plan will proceed at the same time as its importation plan.

Chen Yu, general manager of Skoda’s franchised store in Beijing said that Fabia will come to Chinese market no later than August and that other Skoda vehicles including an Octavia RS model and a SUV model will come to Chinese market along with Fabia, Beijng Business today reported.

Currently Skoda Fabia’s sister product Octavia are produced at Shanghai Volkswagen. In October, Shanghai Volkswagen sold 4,322 Octavia vehicles in Chinese market.

August 23rd, 2008 - The Skoda Octavia is set to have a friend in the rather empty looking Skoda dealerships from November onwards, its new friend being the Skoda Fabia.

The Fabia was shown to a pleased crowd at the previous Beijing Auto show, and is set to go on the market in November 2008 onwards.

The Fabia is expected to be equipped with a 1.6l engine once launched in the PRC, although rumors are stating a 1.4 TSI model may find its way into Fabia line up, a 5 speed manual is expected to be offered, but whether or not the 6 speed tiptronic box is to be fitted is another matter altogether.

Skoda have come from no where in the past year, to becoming one of the best selling brands this year.

However, some dealers revealed that Fabia will sell for about 100,000 yuan ($14,650) in China.

By presenting its European models at the 2008 Beijing auto show back in April, Skoda Auto, the Czech unit of Volkswagen, shows its technological potential (Octavia RS and Scout) and environmental orientation (Fabia GreenLine) to the Chinese auto industry. Following its launch of the Fabia in November this year in the Chinese market, Skoda Auto is going to launch other new models in the coming years.

The Fabia model is believed to become the top-selling Skoda car in China once it's introduced next month. In the China market, the Fabia will surpass the Octavia, another Skoda model, and may compete with Shanghai VW's Polo as an A0-class model.

Since its birth in 1999, the global output of Fabia has exceeded 2 million units, and in the first half of 2008, Fabia sales neared 137,000 units, up 14.5% form one year earlier.

The Skoda Fabia is slowly becoming more and more on Chinas streets.After having a closer look at the chinese Fabia i can tell you it fits the request of chinese for cars almost perfectly.
The double colour look is pretty popular and the price was just reduced within china.

There're three version of the Fabia:

- hatchback
- sedan
- wagon

Is there any plans for a local production of the sedan or station wagon in China?

Current generation of Fabia is only available as hatchback and station wagon. As caravans are not very popular in China I assume only hatchback will be produced for Chinese.

Right now only the hatchback version of the Skoda Fabia is sold in China.Besides that VW wants to concentrate on the new Superb ( SUPER B) and if it should be successfull in europe maybe the Yeti - because the chinese love all types of SUV's and or Jeeps.
