According to China Car Times FAW VW will launch all new Jetta in 2008!

The old VW Jetta is the workhorse of the Chinese economy, without the Jetta there would be no new China, the two go hand in hand so well. Of course, the entire state of the blooming Chinese economy cannot be laid squarely on the VW Jettas shoulders, but China does spend billions of dollars per year on the Jetta, either for personal use, military use (low ranking officers have them for personal cars), police use, and most importantly, the taxi cab.

Most Jetta taxis in Qingdao are around 7 years old, which means they will all be scrapped later this year, and rightly so, most of the sills are rotten, the wings/fenders are disspearing thanks to the infamous tin worm that seems to eat up old VW Santanas and Jettas for lunch. But now, the Chinese people can rejoice because they’ve got an entirely new Jetta, all for themselves. This Jetta is only for the Chinese market (we believe) and is based off the Bora platform, its not quite a Sagitar, but its not quite the old Jetta. The Chinese have waited a long time for a new Jetta, and this one looks like its worth waiting for!

I think it will not be as cheap as the old one. I wonder will they cease the production of original Santana too ?

FAW-VW to deliver New Bora in Q3 this year.

May 4, 2008 - The FAW-Volkswagen joint venture unveiled its new Model X car at the 2008 Beijing auto show (April 20-28). Named New Bora, this new model will be put into the market in the third quarter of this year. The New Bora is powered by a choice of two engines: one is 1.6L, and the other is 2.0L. This model will target the market between Jetta and Sagitar.

Xu Jianyi, general manager of FAW, said that the New Bora is designed for Chinese consumers on the basis of VW’s mature production. Both German and Chinese design elements merge in this all-new compact car. Visually, the New Bora takes on Chinese cultural features like the lion dance in its prominent visual alliance of headlamps and the front mask. The design of the rear is also impressive.

With a length of 4,540mm, a width of 1,775mm and a height of 1,467mm, the New Bora is roomier than the old one. Corresponding to mainstream design of current compact car, the New Bora features impressive leather seats, wooden decoration, a DVD navigation system, and a parking radar in its interior and configuration.

When I saw this images in the initial post my first reaction was Eww
The headlamps looked a bit odd but then I realised it was photoshop image based on the Jetta GLI.

The production car itself is rather smart the headlamps have an Eos vibe to them.

August 19, 2008 - The new Bora, an all-new A-Class sedan of FAW-VW, will hit the Chinese market on October 10, priced between 110,000 yuan ($16,100) and 150,000 yuan. Consumers can now go to order this car at FAW-VW's dealerships nationwide.

The New Bora shares the heavily updated PQ34 platform with Lavida, and is powered by a choice of Euro-4 gasoline 1.6L and 2.0L engines. Both engines are distinguished by very refined performance and low fuel consumption. Measuring 4,540mm x 1,775mm x 1,467mm, the New Bora is roomier and 97mm longer than the old Bora. This model will target the market between Jetta and Sagitar.

The 1.6L manual fashion model sells for 107,800 yuan, 1.6L manual comfort model for 118,800 yuan, the 1.6L automatic fashion model for 119,800 yuan, 1.6L automatic comfort model for 130,800 yuan, 1.6 automatic luxury model for 137,800 yuan, 2.0L manual comfort model for 124,800 yuan, 2.0L automatic comfort model for 136,800 yuan, and 2.0L automatic luxury model for 143,800 yuan.

Measuring 4,540mm x 1,775mm x 1,467mm, the New Bora is roomier and 97mm longer than the old Bora. It uses the six-speed Tiptronic transmission which offers manual and automatic shifting (as used on Magoton and Sagitar), shares the heavily updated PQ34 platform with Lavida, and is powered by a choice of Euro-4 gasoline 1.6L and 2.0L engines. Both engines are distinguished by very refined performance and low fuel consumption.

This Bora is stocked with VW’s Blue-e-Motion Li-ion batteries which are made up of six components to make one piece, in total there are 30 battery pieces. Total power is rated at 26.5kWH whilst the batteries weigh in at 315kg including their cooling systems.
