December 27, 2007 – The much expected 2008 Honda Accord sedans rolled off assembly line in the second plant of Guangzhou Honda today.

During the off-line ceremony, Fu Shoujie, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Honda said, “We’ve added some new features, like intelligent key system, backup radar detector and automatic sun certain control system to the 2008 Honda Accord.”

"More importantly, we’ve upgraded the interior decoration of the 2008 Accord produced to C segment sedans. And that’s the biggest difference from the 2008 Honda Accord sedans sold in North American market.”

Guangzhou Honda expects to sell 178,000 Accord sedans next year, while its closest competitor Toyota Camry expects to sell 175,000 vehicles next year.

Guangzhou Honda did not reveal the price of 2008 Honda Accord, but experts say it is unlikely to be cheaper than the recently launched Ford Mondeo Zhisheng, whose lowest price stands at RMB 181,800 (USD 24,788).

Currently, the price of 2007 Accord powered by a 2.0 liter engine has been lowered to 169,800 yuan ($22,581) and the 2007 Accord powered by a 2.4 liter engine has been lowered to 199,800 yuan ($26,570) in Chongqing.

Honda Accord has become a popular model in the middle and upper segment of China's sedan market. In the first 11 months this year, Honda Accord sold 111,121 units in Chinese market, second only to Toyota Camry, which sold 149,972 units.

Guangzhou Honda sold over 7,400 new Accord vehicles in January 2008.

February 19, 2008 – Guangzhou Honda sold over 7,400 new Accord vehicles in the first month it started production in Guangzhou, according to National Association of Passenger Vehicles.

"If there were no heavy snowstorms in January, we might have been able to sell out 8,000 new Accord vehicles in the first month,” a Guangzhou Honda official told China Business News. “In the fast week of January, our vehicle shipping routes to Southwest and central China markets were cut off by snowstorms.”

Earlier this year, Guangzhou Honda announced a plan to sell 178,000 new Accord vehicles in Chinese market this year, slightly higher than its competitor Toyota Camry, whose sales target was 175,000 vehicles in the same year.

"The sales record for the first month is not bad for us,” the unnamed Guangzhou Honda official mentioned that back in June of 2006 when Toyota Camry, Honda Accord’s rival car model, was launched in Chinese market, it sold 3,680 units in the first month, 5,900 units in the second month, and it was not until the third month that Toyota Camry’s sale reached 7,000 units.

The 2008 Accord vehicles, produced by Guangzhou Honda, were officially launched on January 6. The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price for Accord 2.4 EX is RMB 229,800 ($32,000 in US dollars) in Chinese market and the MSRC price for Accord 2.4 EXL-Navi is RMB 264,800 ($37,000 in US dollars).

New Accord sells 21,068 units in March to hit a record high.

April 8, 2008 - In the Chinese market of medium- and high-end cars, the new Honda Accord model has recaptured the sales championship from Camry. The new Accord made by Guangzhou Honda Auto sold 21,068 new units in March to become Number One again 15 months later in the sales of mid- and high-end sedans.

The March sales figure of Accord also hit a single-month record high in selling mid- and -high-end sedans in China. The new Accord scaled the new height only two months after it was listed in the stock market. Up to February, Camry, another model of Guangzhou Honda, had been a market leader for 15 straight months, close to breaking the record of 19 successive months set by the old Accord. Camry sold 16,532 units in March.

Sources said that most of the new Accord vehicles will be manufactured in Guangzhou Honda's Huangpu plant and Zengcheng plant. The combined capacity of the two facilities, after the restructuring now under way, will be boosted to 800 units a day and thus will gradually ease the short supply of the increasingly popular new Accord vehicles.

Last month, Guangzhou Honda put onto the market a new model of car 8-generation Accord 3.5L priced at RMB 339,800 ($48,100). At the same time, it also unveiled the guide price of two models of 8-generation Accord 2.0L cars with 2.0MT priced at RMB 181,800 and 2.0EX, RMB 199,800, which hit the market in late March.

Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between China's Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd. and Japan's Honda Motor Co.

China-made Accord sells 17,191 units in July.

August 26, 2008- In July 2008, the sales of the 8th-generation Accord sedan made by Guangzhou Honda hit 17,191 units, up 42.8% month on month and up 131% year on year. This was the fourth time that Accord's monthly sales led the mid- to high-end sedan market in China this year.

The 8th-generation Honda Accord of the joint venture Guangzhou Honda was the top seller of mid- to high-end sedans in the Chinese market in March, May, June this year, and the car sold a staggering 17,191 units in July, the best selling sedan again and also the only model of its kind that sold over 10,000 units that month in China. The closest rival Toyota Camry by Guangzhou Toyota sold only 9,439 units in July.

By July 31, The Chinese-made new Honda Accord sold a total of 90,881 units in the country this year and became the top seller again in China's mid- to high-end sedan market in the January to July period, when Camry sold 88,440 units.

December 19, 2008 (Gasgoo.com) - GAC Honda (Guangzhou Honda) will launch the upgraded version of its flagship sedan model the 8th-generation Accord by the year end, said cheshi.com today, citing an insider of the joint venture. This upgraded model will have little change in its exterior look but will include some new safety and comfort configurations.

In January this year, GAC Honda released its 8th-gen Accord to the Chinese market. In the first few months, the splendor and fashion won this model many customers. Its sales in the third quarter (July-Sept) even exceeded those of its close rival Toyota Camry. But in September, GAC Toyota launched the 2009 Camry model, which since then has captured much market share from Honda Accord.

Take their well-sold 2.4L models, the '09 Toyota Camry has obviously better safety configurations than Honda. These safety features were newly added in September. In contrast, the 8th-gen Accord not only lacks these competitive safety configurations, but also are more expensive by 2,000 yuan than Camry.

Therefore, GAC Honda expects to win more potential buyers back by launching a new Accord with a better price-performance ratio. To this end, it is quite necessary and urgent for GAC Honda to upgrade the configurations, especially the safety ones, of its current Accord model.

In-mid September, GAC Honda recalled 717 Accord sedans (made by the venture on March 21-29, 2007) to fix potential problems with steering pumps. The defective steering pump might cause malfunction in the steering system of vehicles.
