BMW will produce facelifted 3-series in China.

BMW will show off its revamped BMW 3-Series along with the new-generation 7-Series at the Paris International auto show next month. The new 3-Series then will go on sale globally and is expected to be produced in China at year-end, reported Beijing News, citing BMW sources.

Red is my favorite car color, by far. This BMW red doesn't look all that different than my '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS' "Rally Red", actually.

New BMW 3-Series models launched in Beijing.

BMW Brilliance Auto launched the all-new BMW 3-Series in Beijing on December 8th. It includes the BMW 320i luxury, BMW 325i luxury and BMW 335i models, which are priced at 375,000 yuan ($54,500), 442,000 yuan and 613,000yuan, respectively. The two luxury models are made in China and the BMW 335i is an imported model.

The previous BMW 3-Series have been sold in the Chinese market since 2005. The new 3-Series features such changes as new lights with LED indicators, revised bumpers, less chrome on the grille and a more distinctive creased bonnet. Inside, the revised model gains the latest iDrive cabin control system, an 8.8-inch screen and an 80GB hard drive.

The engines are improved for fuel economy and low emissions. The BMW 335i is powered by a 6-cylinder 3.0L Bi-turbo engine which generates an output of 306hp and a torque at 400 NM. The model can accelerate to 100km in 5.6 second.

The flagship BMW 325i, BMW's best seller worldwide, are the first 3-Series model imported to China, while the BMW 320i and BMW 325i models are locally made by the BMW Brilliance joint venture.

BMW Brilliance Auto has cut production of the previous 325i model, according to dealers. Buyers in China can place orders now for the all-new BMW 3-Series models at BMW Brilliance dealerships.

Pretty nice, last time I went back to China was when the E60 5-series came out. I saw a few guys driving it, pretty nice cars. I'm going back there again in August. Hope to see some E90s.

BMW Brilliance yesterday announced its release of the BMW 3-Series limited edition model to the Chinese market. The sedan, featured with the iPod Speaker, a music kit for most BMW car models, is priced at 375,000 yuan ($54,900).

Meanwhile, BMW China has also announced that it will continue to stage the trial drive of all series of BMW and MINI brands. The BMW trial drive across China will have been held for nine straight years in 2009.

During the tour of 39 large and medium-size Chinese cities, consumers are able to experience the driving of all BMW and MINI products, including BMW X6 (a mid-size luxury Sports Activity Coupe), new BMW M3, new BMW 3-Series, new BMW 7-Series, 2009 BMW 5-Series (long-wheelbase edition), as well as MINI Cooper Clubman and MINI Cooper S and other recently released models.

BMW is the first luxury car manufacturer to have staged the annual nationwide trial drive of all series of its car models in China.

BMW Brilliance to suspend BMW 3 series production

BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. will import BMW 3 Series in large quantities starting January 1, 2010, and meanwhile the BMW venture in China will stop manufacturing the series temporarily to upgrade its production line, SinoCast reported yesterday.

Sales of BMW Brilliance reached 41,372 cars in the first 11 months of the year, and the full-year sales are expected to top 43,000 units, up 30% year on year. The venture posted a 25% sales growth in the first half and the growth in the second half will be higher than that.

In order to meet the growing Chinese market demand, BMW Brilliance will import vehicles of the BMW 3 series, and sell them at the same price as China-made ones. The import is just a temporary measure, maybe part of its efforts to compete with Mercedes-Benz.

In addition to building its second factory, the venture will drive up the capacity of its earlier production line to 75,000 vehicles. Therefore, the production of the BMW 3 Series will have to pause during the upgrade of the production line.

As one of the three German premium car makers, BMW expects a gradual recovery in global sales in 2010, with double-digit growth in China to offset its domestic downturn. Mercedes-Benz and Audi have also seen rapid sales growth in China.

China has become the fourth-biggest market for BMW after Germany, the U.S. and the UK. China's continued strong growth would make it the third largest market for BMW in the next few years.

BMW AG, the world's biggest luxury car producer, has recently unveiled two modified vehicle models of its 3 Series in Shanghai to help boost its sales growth in the Chinese auto market, Shanghai Daily reported.

Of the two modified BMW 3 series models, the first of their kind, one is laced with Swarovski crystals, and the other one has luxury sport features. They hit the showroom at the Shanghai Baozen Zhonghuan Automobile Sales and Service Co, an authorized BMW dealer in Shanghai.

BMW Brilliance, the German carmaker's Chinese joint venture with local partner Brilliance China, will start producing the elongated version of BMW 3 Series and the BMW X1 model in the venture's second plant in northeast China's Shenyang city in 2012.

The second plant, whose construction was started earlier this week and will be completed by 2012, will help the joint venture more than double its annual production to 100,000 vehicles and the company's capacity may eventually be tripled.

In the first four months this year, BMW's group sales in China totaled 46,619 cars, up from 22,369 of a year earlier. The flagship 7-Series sedan, the X5 and X6 SUVs saw strong market demand in China.

China is overtaking the UK as BMW's third largest market (after Germany and the U.S.). BMW plans to sell over 100,000 cars in China this year, up from 90,536 in 2009.
