First of all..............GREAT pics, Martin!! Second..........Great Wall is going to have a real hit on their hands with the Peri. There is nothing quite like it on China's streets right now - it's quite unique right now in the small car market. And let's NOT get into a ugly discussion about the whole "fiat copy" situation - been there, done that and it's old news. It's priced VERY competitively for the chinese consumer, it's got nice styling inside and out and maybe MOST important - it LOOKS COOL. Compare this to the likes of the QQ6, Ben Ben, Geely MR - the Peri has them all beat in the "cool" quotient. Chery's A1 is pretty "cool" - but not quite as much as the Peri AND it's more expensive....and the Xiali C1 isn't close. ALL of the cars I mentioned have (or offer) a 1.3 engine like the Peri - and they are all in the 40,000 rmb price range (except the A1 and C1). Which one would YOU choose? The Peri stands out amongst the crowd - I won't be surprised if it's a huge sales success.

Great Wall Peri to go on sale this month.

March 7, 2008 - China's largest pick-up truck maker Great Wall Motor Co., will finally launch its first sedan - Peri tomorrow at Chengdu, Sichuan province, local newspaper reported.

The car, equipped with GW413EF 1.3L engine and Bosche's latest ABS and EBD systems, has also passed European Union standard safety test, according to a senior company official.

Priced between 40,000 and 50,000 Yuan ($5356 - $6695), the model will be exported after it is launched at domestic markets. Great Wall said it has sales networks or partnership dealers in more than 70 countries.

Last year Italian automaker Fiat has initiated legal proceedings against Great Wall, claiming Peri is a copy of its Panda. Great Wall said that it spent three years developing its first car and owns its intellectual property rights.

The company expects to sell 80,000 Peri vehicles by the end of 2008.

i think this is great, during my visit in great wall if will be posibble i will order couple of them to get them in europe :) car is looking good and i think the qualtiy is also good, for now all models which i drive i didn't have any big problems with qualitiy

Does the GW Peri engine GW413EF is a 4G Mitsubishi derived engine, or is it a 2E Toyota derived ?

Great Wall Motor shipping 700 Peri cars to Algeria

November 05, 2008

Shanghai, November 5 (Gasgoo.com) China's Great Wall Motor is shipping 700 vehicles to Algeria, including 420 Peris cars and 280 Deer pickups, the official Xinhua news agency reported today.

"Despite the current economic downturn, I believe the high performance-price ratio of our vehicles will maintain their appeal with African customers," says Zheng Guoqing, who is in charge of the Africa sales for Great Wall.

He said the company has exported some 2,000 Peri cars to Africa since the beginning of this year. The Peri has already got a VCA certificate of the UK and are qualified in various oversea markets, the company said.

Earlier this year Great Wall was involved in a copyright dispute with Fiat Auto S.P.A, who alleged Great Wall's GWPeri model was a clone of the Fiat Panda. An Italian court in the Fiat's hometown of Turin ruled against Great Wall Motor, agreeing the GWPeri was a Panda knockoff and banning sales of the vehicle throughout Europe.

Great Wall said at the time it did not intend to sell the car in Europe and said it did not anticipate any adverse effect of the ruling on the company's exports to overseas markets.

for selling of gw peri I still don't have any results, as I talk with them they are very satisfied with export of gwperi, for domestic market I didn't get an answer, i got very simple answer...OK, by my opinion florid will have much more customers that peri, because price is very near, also car is much bigger

peri have little bit high price but offer a good quality, anyway at chinese market there is plenty of cars in that segment which are under gwperi price, and offer also a good quality and equipment

Unfortunately yes, when people look at Chinese cars like this they immediately think that this type of car is the epitome of Chinese auto industry, which isn't completely wrong. There are Chinese companies out there willing to do their own works but because of reputation created by their peers their driving roads become much more bumpier.

Companies like SAIC want to develop their own stuff either indigenous or based on Rover expertise. Chery besmirched their early reputation with GM Daewoo but now trying to wash that away with the 2009 models (and the beautiful and elegant A3). Geely is doing their own restructuring but we still need to see how they will play it out with their new branches and the new FC series. BYD is a weirdo that cannot be ignored, although their technology sounds and looks pretty impressive but their car design is heavily "inspired" F3 and F6 (btw BYD is releasing a dual mode version of F6 next year) and F0, the e6 is somewhat a slow and gradual departure from that regular inspiration.

unfortunately i dont have a chance to drive or test most of chinese cars but they have created an image with copying western cars, brands and also logos too...these uncopy models like peri is going to show that chinese manufacturers are trying to have developments in this industry...

The Hebei Province People’s High Court dismissed on Dec. 29 a Fiat appeal alleging that Great Wall’s GWPeri compact car was an infringement of its patent, upholding a July ruling by the Shijiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court, Great Wall said in a statement on Monday.

“The judgment is final and conclusive and no further appeal may be lodged on the subject dispute in the PRC (People’s Republic of China),” it said.

Fiat declined to comment.

In July an Italian court banned Great Wall from selling the GWPeri compact car in the European Union, saying the car too closely resembled Fiat’s Panda.

Well the car is good.
A silent engine, with good interiors, the quality of plastics its not bad.
I sold 3 in less than one month, very good for a tiny market!
Bigger problem is the back seats are a bit tiny.
Ordered 12 units for 2009.

GWM Peri IS almost 80% copy of Fiat Panda, there is no dubt. But, in Italy a lot of people say the front and the back of Peri are better... ;)

Same door line, same interior, same roof barrel, same general dimension. They (GWM) can do something better... :thumb:

With this my two post I don't say GWM does wrong. I want only say GWM Peri is too inspired to Fiat Panda, not original, but funny and nice car really. But not original. BTW also the SAME weels!:lol: :lol:

i can't belive that almost 2 year after peri was presented people are still comment about that, car is simmlar to panda, first of all peri have different front light and whole frontal of the car is different, the same is the back of the car, to me look more like nissan note...not fiat, interior is and door panels are the same like in panda, but gwm already did some changes and it's a big chance that they will install the interior from peri suv which is different

i drive both models, the peri and panda...and by my opinion peri goes better, simply it's more comfortable and in serial equpment have stronger engine, also the design look better to me

M1 IS Peri 4x4.

It must cost more than the Peri ( at least due to the 4x4 transmission and more expensive suspension )

But so far GWM dont have a export price for the 4x4 peri and also for hover m1.

In the past they opted to launch the new models only in China, and then a few months later if all goes well the start to export them

Some disturbing news:

It seems that the Peri is out of production.

Last February i tried to order some more units of peris. And GWM told me the production was halted until the end of March.
Today i tried to post a new order and the information this time was:
"currently we are not producing this model due to lack of market demand."

there is no mention what so ever of the legal issues with fiat just this.

Too bad, because it was a good car. Cheap, resistant and fair looking.

peri never achieve any bigger sale in china because it's too expensive in chinese market, many other brands like gelly, byd or other have same type of vehicle for same price, even if great wall have good quality they told to me that selling succes wasn't so good like for florid or coolbear

I guess that with a 2.000 vehicle order thy will even paint them purple if i requested it.
Anyway it was the cheapest car from gwm, the quality was good, and i have a good quantity of spare parts in stock.
Now i must invest in more parts for other models.

maybe they prepare it for you :), i also like this car, but my favorite is hover, after hover a coolbear, it's really nice cars
