Looks like a compact hatchback, competitor to Focus&co. Will this car complement MG's offer instead of old British MG5?

The previously shown MG5 won't see production, it was merely an MG ZS to bulk up MGs range at the Beijing or Shanghai (can't remember which) car show. The design for the ZS (as previously mentioned elsewhere on here) was owned by Honda and when MG Rover collapsed in 2005 Honda engineers visited the Longbridge factory and destroyed all the tooling, and they have since refused NAC permission to use the IP for the car.
There's apparently also a new MG5 due next year, along with the 6.
very nice looking car indeed

MG’s reborn ZS hatches out!
Octagon badge is ready to return – and we can reveal full details of the sporty new model that aims to take fight to class’s best...
Auto Express Car ReviewsText: Paul Bailey / Photos: Larson20th November 2008Get ready for a new British-built MG hatchback! It’s three years since the last ZS rolled off the production line, but MG’s Chinese owner plans to launch this stunning model in 2010, pitting it against the next-generation Vauxhall Astra, as well as established players such as the Ford Focus and VW Golf.
Auto Express has learned from MG insiders that Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) is set to introduce the new hatch initially in China. It will then roll out the same model – this time built at MG Rover’s old home of Longbridge in the West Midlands – Europe-wide.
Based heavily on the Roewe 550 saloon, the car has a pert rear, and an aggressive front end more in tune with the sporting ambitions of the MG marque. Its Chinese-built N Series engine (a development of the original K Series) comes in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.8-litre forms. Outputs will range from 120bhp to 160bhp, and there are plans for a 200bhp hot hatch, too.
The MG will feature stiffer springs with compliant damping, and suspension settings are currently being honed in both China and the UK. Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) – joint venture partner and the owner of the Rover brand – has tasked staff at Leamington Spa, Warks, with testing these sportier settings. Roewe 550 test mules have been seen pounding around the Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire.
It’s believed that the Longbridge-built model will be renamed in the tradition of the post-2001 ‘Zed’ range, and will undercut its mainstream rivals. NAC-MG’s sales and marketing director, Gary Hagen, recently stated that he was looking to position the cars with value for money in mind.
The new MG will look different in European and Chinese forms, with the Longbridge machine being specifically tailored for the western market. NAC-MG UK’s finances are currently somewhat limited, and a significant financial injection from China will be needed to ensure that the plans for Longbridge will come to fruition. However, top brass understand the value of building MGs in the UK to retain brand credibility.
Next year is expected to be a quiet one for Longbridge announcements. SAIC’s Leamington Spa staff will move en masse to the Product Development Centre at the historic facility. And a mainstream version of the TF roadster will be rolled out early in the year, maybe followed by a facelifted version created to coincide with MG’s 85th birthday celebrations.

From China Car Times
MG6 Sedan - Unveiled!
February 26th, 2009
The first picture of a future MG6 sedan have been leaked to the internet via the auto.qq.com website. Further details on the MG range have not been released, but its widely rumoured that the MG6 will carry the Roewe 1.8T engine, as the MG6 is essentially an MG edition of the popular Roewe 550.
In 2009, SAIC plans to sell 45,000 Roewe vehicles, where as MG have been given a much lower sales target of just 10,000 vehicles. In 2008, Roewe sold 26007 vehicles, and MG sold 9232.
With cars such as the above MG6 hitting the market soon both in China and the UK/EU, its expected that the MG brand will jump far ahead of its Roewe counterpart.
Now the question remains, will the thousands of drivers across the EU who currently drive something from the MG Z Range trade their motor in for an MG6?

Hi everyone!
Question: Is this actually going to be made, and if it is, will it be exported? I ask this beacause MG still exports cars here to New Zealand and it would be nice if the vamped up the model range instead of two models.

A car long expected and here it is: the MG6 is out. Only one picture at this moment, more will likely follow soon. The MG6 is based on the Roewe 550 but is styled much sportier, that's a heritage thing, MG's are sporty by law.
It certainly looks fast, like a fastback indeed, the front is similar to the 550 but from the B-pillar all changes. It looks like a modern interpretation of the famous Rover 3500 but that car, as one of only a few Rovers, did not have a MG'd brother. But that little wenti I will forgive because I like the car.

MG6 – Spotted out testing in China.
The MG6 is essentially the sports version of the Roewe 550 sedan, and will probably be one of the first Chinese cars to go ’supersonic’ and see sales all around Europe in the coming months. An eventual launch date for China has not yet been announced although it is likely to be the end of the year or early in 2010. A test model of the Roewe 550 sedan with an MG grill was spotted out testing in Spain earlier this month, but this is the first time that a true MG6 road tester has been snapped out while testing in China.
The MG6 takes on the fastback style that we saw at the Shanghai Auto Show, but without the fat alloys and the piano black interior, the current interior is still the standard Roewe one, but the final MG version is supposed to be quite similar, although without the wooden finish that is in the 550.
The MG6 is the most anticipated hatch of the year both in China and in Europe, where MG still has a cult following since the demise of MG-Rover in 2005.

According to SAIC's product planning, the production version of the MG6 will launch at this month's Guangzhou Auto show and be on sale in the mid-to late December, while the European market launch is scheduled for 2010. "Britain, as the first stop and then sold to the whole of Europe", "We will be adopting the original reseller channel to achieve this plan, there are intentions to recruit new dealers to join the network."

MG6 to go on sale on December 22nd
From China Car Times:
Santa may have come early this year for Chinese MG fans with the MG6 set to launch on December 22nd!
The MG6 is the first MG in years, and rides on the same platform as the Roewe 550, and will also share the same 1.8 and 1.8T engines.
The 22nd Dec will see the MG6 launch in five different flavours, these are:
Standard 1.8DVVT (manual)
Comfort 1.8DVVT (精英版)(tiptronic 5 speed)
The 1.8T will come in three different configurations:
Standard 1.8T (manual)
Comfort 1.8T (精英版)(tiptronic 5 speed)
Luxury 1.8T (tiptronic 5 speed)
AROnlineare also saying that MG are going to be the next Alfa Romeo:
Alfa Romeo and MG – two of the Automotive Industry’s most historic and iconic, but often troubled, sporting marques – have much in common at the moment. The two brands have probably the most active and dedicated global Owners’ Clubs networks of any OEMs and, while MG enthusiasts have just been celebrating the marque’s 85th Anniversary this year, Alfisti will be celebrating Alfa Romeo’s 100th Anniversary in 2010.
Alfa Romeo and MG have both chosen to mark their respective anniversaries with the introduction of an important new model which will play a major role in determining whether or not each marque survives and thrives long enough to enjoy similar celebrations in the future. SAIC Motor launched the MG 6 at last month’s Guangzhou Auto Show and Alfa Romeo has just confirmed that the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta (formerly referred to as the Milano) will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
However, while a spokesman for MG Motor UK Limited has said that the MG 6 ‘marks the start of one of the most exciting periods in the 85 year history of the iconic MG brand’ and recently appointed Sales and Marketing Director, Guy Jones, described the launch as ‘a milestone day’ for the marque, the comments made by Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. (FGA) CEO, Sergio Marchionne, about the current performance of Alfa Romeo which coincided with the Giulietta’s official World Preview last week, give cause for rather less optimism about Alfa Romeo’s future.
I wonder if this is the model that will use the same DSG gearbox used by Volkswagen.

MG6 road test:
http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/FirstDrives/MG-Motor-MG6-1.8-Turbo/247188/
What is it?
The car with which the MG brand is to be reintroduced to the British market: this is the new MG6.
Designed and developed in the UK at SAIC’s technical centre at Longbridge, the MG6 is a medium-sized family hatchback that’s roughly the same size as a Skoda Octavia. Based on the Chinese-built Roewe 550, this car can actually trace its roots all the way back to the Rover 75. However, for the MG version, the car’s engine, chassis, body and interior have all been overhauled.
Current MG brand owners SAIC has plans to build these cars at MG Rover’s old Longbridge plant for sale across the UK. Our test car, however, was one of several built at SAIC’s Nanjing factory, for the official Chinese press launch of the car.
What’s it like?
The MG6 is remarkably daring- and original-looking, considering that it’s intended primarily for the notoriously conservative Chinese market. Wide tracks, flared arches, large external styling features and some surprisingly sophisticated surfaces give it a bold, sporty and contemporary appearance, even relative to European rivals.
The car’s cabin is all new and bears no resemblance to that of the Rover 75 or MG ZT. The materials used aren’t as rich or tactile as you’ll find in some European family saloons, but the built quality is good: switches and levers move with firmness and solidity.
Shanghai Automotive will offer two versions of the MG6, both front-driven via a 5-speed automatic gearbox, and both powered by its ‘N-series’ update of Rover’s old 1.8-litre ‘K-series’ engine.
The entry-level car develops 133bhp and 135lb ft or torque. The range-topping turbo, which we drove, gets 158bhp and 158lb ft, and SAIC claims that it’ll hit 60mph in 8.5sec before going on to a top speed of 130mph.
Out on the road, the MG6 feels firmly suspended, but performs well. That engine suffers a little from turbo lag below 2500rpm, but spins freely way up to its 6750rpm redline. The car has good stability and composure, resisting body roll well through corners, and riding mid-bend bumps at speed without being diverted by them.
Ride comfort and refinement could both be improved. On our test drive, rattles were evident from within our test car’s dashboard, a problem exacerbated by the MG6’s firm ride.
Also disappointing was the car’s five-speed torque converter gearbox. At times it was frustratingly unresponsive and slow to kick down. A good six-speed manual ‘box will be a necessity if SAIC want to market this car as a sporting saloon here in the UK.
Should I buy one?
Given that we’ve only tried a Chinese-built model on Chinese roads, it’s too early to say with any certainty. Longbridge-built cars are likely to be better finished, better equipped and could have their own chassis set-up tailored to suit UK tastes. The MG6 will certainly need to be improved in all three areas in order to make much of an impression over here.
However, provided SAIC can make those gains, and offer this car to UK buyers with a price tag that’s attractive, it won’t struggle to sell the MG6 in Britain. The MG6 is a car that’s already good enough to compete with those built in joint ventures between Chinese and European makers, and could quite easily be made competitive by European class standards.
With the MG badge on its nose, it has the potential to make big improvements to the reputation of the Chinese car industry in Europe.

I'd buy one in that color, without the dash rattles and possessing either a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual tranny. Nice looking car-I'd be interested in one but it looks like the States will be skipped by this puppy.

5-speed tranny's or 6-speed tranny's? Probably doesn't matter 'cause they won't be coming to da States, anyway...eh.

I think they will fit a better tranny before it does reach the USA, the auto box is the worst part of the car but that doesn't much matter for sales in the UK/Europe.

MG6 first drive - exclusive
The MG6 will go on sale in the UK next year, and Autocar's chief road tester Matt Prior has had an exclusive drive of the Longbridge-developed car.
Contrary to what many people think, the MG6 - or Roewe 75 as it’s called in China - is a clean sheet design, and not based on a shortened Rover 75 platform.
The Roewe variant went on sale in China last year, and has already sold 100,000 units. The MG6 will be on sale in the UK from the start of 2011, with final assembly taking place at Longbridge.
The good news is that not only was the 6 largely engineered in the UK, but it will also be sold here on a Europe-exclusive chassis set-up, honed and tweaked on the roads we tested it on. As a benchmark, we took a Ford Focus Zetec S along on the same route.
The roads are in and around mid-Wales, and are some of the most challenging and demanding in the world. If a car works here, it'll work pretty much anywhere.
Climbing aboard, there's a shock. The 6's cabin may be a belter by Chinese standards, but it's not on a par with better European cars. There are soft-touch plastics and a dark ambience, but it's a bit austere and the design looks flat in places. It's a pre-production model, but it could use finessing by a few notches.
Moving off, I reckon the gearchange on the five-speed manual and NVH levels could (and I believe will) be improved too.
The only engine at launch is a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol, though diesels and other petrols will follow. It's a reworked K-series and - although it meets Euro5 emissions levels - accelerating away from a couple of roundabouts as we head west, it gets a little strained higher up the rev band.
What the MG6 does do, though, is drive well. And I mean really well. MG's head of chassis, Andy Kitson, admits the Focus has been the firm's benchmark for ride and handling. The MG6 has a rare blend of suppleness and poise.
The steering is still hydraulic rather than electric, and apparently it's slower than the Focus's, but it doesn't feel it. Kitson says there's still a little work to do on the valves to alter the feel at straight ahead but it's not bad now. And once there's a little lock wound on, it's excellent.
Then there's the ride. Hopping to and from a Focus reveals that the Ford's cabin suffers less vertical intrusion over bumps, but it's obvious this is the car MG has benchmarked. In its poise and agility I'd even say the MG6 is superior. It feels more neutral than the Focus, with a pivot point further forward; the Ford in comparison feels led more by its front.
The MG grips tenaciously before eventually letting slip from the front first, and it changes direction superbly. It is comfortable, tool greater vertical inputs into the cabin aside, there's no crash, even over bad bumps.
Fact is, the MG6 is already (and there's still tweaking to do) borderline best in class to drive.
Is that enough? Probably not on its own. But it's also spacious and expected to be priced competitively.
If all goes well there's scope for up to 150,000 vehicles per year to be assembled out of MG Birmingham, even in its current size.

Yup. MG2, TF and another "unknown" model were announced too :thumb:
Their goal is get a lineup with at least six models to 2012 (MG550, MG750, MGTF, MG6, MG2 and another one... I never heard about the 6th MG model)
Mr. Krpan, do you know about another new model from MG (excluding 550 and 750)?
