Admin 06-14-2006, 06:51 PM Tokyo, Japan, June. 12, 2006 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation announced today that Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (SFTM), a joint vehicle-production company established with China FAW Group Corporation (FAW) in China in 2005, has added a second version of the Land Cruiser Prado to its production lineup, raising SFTM's overall annual production capacity from 20,000 units to 23,000 units.
The newly added version of the Land Cruiser Prado - the higher-grade Land Cruiser Prado VX - started rolling off the line today at SFTM's Chengdu Plant, which also makes the Land Cruiser Prado GX(*1). Both versions are for the Chinese market; until now, the Land Cruiser VX sold in China was only made in Japan.
Like the Land Cruiser Prado GX, the Land Cruiser Prado VX is to be sold through FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd.'s approximately 220 authorized dealers, which started accepting orders from customers today. The Land Cruiser Prado VX is priced at 558,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 7.87 million yen).
With this latest development, Toyota's total annual vehicle production capacity in China now stands at 343,000 units. Outline of SFTM
cruiser88 01-02-2007, 01:01 AM  why not just buy a real cruiser:thumb:
god_bless_japan 01-02-2007, 07:28 AM exactly, and drive a better built car since is built in Japan, and enjoy a better resale value 5-8 years down the road, and better image too since its not a copy:D
Did you even read the news? FAW Sichuan is one of Toyota's joint companies. They will not produce "a copy" but the real thing.
Toyota announced today that the Crown luxury sedan manufactured by Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (TFTM) recently received China's first-ever five-star safety rating in collision safety tests performed by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC).
The automobile market is expanding rapidly in China and motorization is advancing at a brisk pace, with social consciousness of automobile collision safety also on the rise. To respond to these developments, CATARC adopted the China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP), a system for testing vehicle collision safety. The center has been conducting tests of vehicles sold in China and publicly announcing the results since last year.
As the Toyota brand flagship vehicle in China, the Crown went into production at TFTM in March of 2005. A total of approximately 70,000 Crown vehicles have been sold through FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. (FTMS) to date, and the Crown has been praised by customers in China for its high quality, high performance and reliability.
To contribute to the realization of an affluent automobile society, Toyota vigorously conducts research and development designed to enhance vehicle safety performance and adopts the resulting technologies on a wide range of its products. As one aspect of these efforts, Toyota is actively introducing advanced vehicles in the Chinese market that meet the rigorous collision safety standards of Toyota's original Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) system.
Windy 01-27-2007, 03:52 PM Does anyone know if C-NCAP ended up with similar tests to the Euro NCAP or did they end up using lower collision speeds?
oo4load 01-28-2007, 12:01 PM The speeds are lower, and looking at the chart I have to conclude that somehow the extremely bad cars can still get a lot of 'points' in the Chinese test.
I mean 2 stars for the Geely, that thing almost crushed itself after doing the full widt frontal at only 56km/h... :nono:
Windy 01-29-2007, 05:55 PM Thanks, I suspected it would go that way, they should have made them the same and just accepted that their current cars would have low scores. This way nobody knows what they mean so will assume all chinese cars are bad whatever the score. :nono:
oo4load 01-30-2007, 01:37 AM This is for the domestic market only. They probably adjusted the requirements so that no car could ever get less than 2 stars unless it was made of cardboard.
Think about the public opinion, what if every chinese car tested scored only 1 star? It's all politics, they don't want to disqualify their own products....
phaeton 01-30-2007, 02:30 AM LOL :D
Congrats to FAW Toyota :)

Lmao, good news here:D i bet the 70,000(approx) chinese Toyota crown buyers looks down on their countrymen driving around in Geely, cheery etc. Well done Toyota:thumb:
eddie 02-11-2007, 12:47 PM Does anyone know if C-NCAP ended up with similar tests to the Euro NCAP or did they end up using lower collision speeds?
I would prefer to wait until the euro-ncap test results are announced.I only trust them for now.

Anyone kind enough to advise which china car maker offer right hand drive :)
1stVEngineInAsia_HongQi 02-14-2007, 01:09 AM Good resale value of Japanese cars? Probably correct for 5-8 years. But after 10 years, no one will buy cars made in Japan because even Japanese will buy cars made in China. (How many parts of a Japanese car is made in Japan???)
Major success from Toyota!
TOYOTA Motor Corp yesterday announced that sales of its Reiz sedan topped 100,000 units in China over the past two years and played a key role in achieving aggressive sales in the world's second largest auto market.
The mid-to-high class sedan was locally built by FAW Toyota, a joint venture formed by Toyota and China's First Automotive Works Group, and hit the market in 2005 as the first Chinese-made front-engine, rear-drive sedan in China.
It has been competing with Ford's Mondeo, General Motors Corp's LaCrosse, Nissan's Teana and Honda's Accord in the premier car market expanding at over 20 percent growth year on year. Toyota introduced revamped Reiz sedans in China in October including the sporty edition of its 2.5V Reiz.

The expansion project will be started in May this year and is expected to start production by the end of next year. The second phase will be finished and start production by 2013, Shanghai Securities News cited government sources as saying.

Currently Toyota has three joint ventures: Tianjin FAW Toyota, Sichuan FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Toyota. The three joint ventures operate five plants in China.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Co. operates two plants in Tianjin: Plant No.1 currently builds Corolla and Vios, a sedan variant of the previous-generation of Yaris and Plant No. 2 builds the Crown and Reiz upscale sedans. The letter is derived from the Japan-market Mark X, according to China Automotive News

Toyota Motor Corp said on Monday it would build a new, 4 billion yuan ($584 million) factory in China with local partner FAW Group Corp, bringing its planned local production capacity to 1 million vehicles a year.
The factory in Changchun, Toyota's sixth with the FAW Group, will produce 100,000 Corolla cars a year, adding to Toyota's current capacity of 643,000 cars a year in the world's second-biggest auto market. The 50-50 partners, which held a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant on Monday, have not decided when production would begin.
Toyota has already announced plans to expand two of its other car plants with FAW. It also has plans to add a second, 120,000-units-a-year line at its factory in Guangzhou with its other local partner, Guangzhou Automotive, in mid-2009, eventually raising the line's capacity to 200,000 units a year.
The planned additions and expansions would bring Toyota's annual output capacity in China to 1.01 million vehicles a year.
Toyota, the world's biggest automaker, is targeting sales of about 1 million cars annually in China soon after 2010. It also imports all of its Lexus luxury models into China.
