mememe 12-23-2008, 10:28 AM Nissan to recall 431 Infiniti G35 cars for airbag defects
November 05, 2008
Shanghai, November 5 (Gasgoo.com) Nissan (China) Investment Co. has announced that it will recall 431 Infiniti G35 (type V36) in China from November 7 due to a faulty sensor system that could affect the car's passenger side airbag, xinhua.net reported, citing sources from China’s top quality watchdog.
The affected cars are 2007 editions of Infiniti G35 produced from May 11, 2007 to October 19, 2008, according to China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).
Nissan reported that a sensor located in the passenger seat cushion "may have been manufactured out of specifications. Under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the OCS (Occupant Classification System -- which activates the airbag when the passenger seat is occupied) and the Airbag Control Unit, and could result in the passenger airbag being suppressed, which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash."
The Japanese automaker claims that there have been no injuries as a result of the defect in China. To fix the problem, Nissan (China) will offer free inspection and repair for the involved cars through its service station in China from November 7. The automaker said owners with questions could find the related information online at www.aqsiq.gov.cn.

mememe 12-23-2008, 10:29 AM GM to recall defective Hummer H2 in China
September 19, 2008
Shanghai, September 19 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors China Group, the Chinese division of the world's largest automaker General Motors Corp., announced Thursday it was recalling part of imported Hummer H2 SUVs for the defect in the vehicles' heated windshield washer fluid system, said xinhuanet.com yesterday.
GM China has already submitted report to China' top quality supervisor to recall these defective autos from September 19. The recall involves part of imported Hummer H2 SUVs in China, manufactured between 2006 and 2008.
A short circuit in the circuit board that controls the heated windshield washer fluid system could cause a grounding wire to overheat. That could lead to smoke and the malfunctioning of other electrical components. In rare cases, it could cause a fire, GM China said in a statement.
As time is needed for preparing new parts, GM China will take two steps to fix the problem: first, to shut off the system in the event of a short circuit to avoid potential risks; second, to replace the faulty parts for customers free of charge when the new parts are ready and to resume the heating function

BEIJING (AP) — Toyota Motor Corp. has issued a recall for more than 120,000 cars in China to fix a problem that could result in loss of steering control, China's quality watchdog said Thursday in the latest piece of bad news for the Japanese automaker.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., a joint venture between Toyota and China's FAW Group, will recall 121,930 vehicles beginning Friday, according to a notice on the Web site of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The notice said the recalled models include Crown and Reiz luxury sedans produced between 2005 and 2006, and Lexus cars produced between 2004 and 2006.
The agency said that manufacturing defects could cause the electric power steering systems to fail.
It was not clear if the same models would be recalled in other countries. Toyota officials in Japan could not immediately be reached for comment late on Thursday.
Toyota will contact owners of the affected vehicles, conduct checks and replace defective parts without charge, the Chinese agency said.
The notice did not say if any accidents have resulted from the defects.
The recall announcement was the latest in a string of bad news for Japan's No. 1 automaker. On Monday, the company said it was sinking into its first operating loss in seven decades. Then Wednesday, Toyota reported that global vehicles sales had plunged 21.8 percent in November — its biggest drop in eight years.

BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The country's top quality regulator said here on Tuesday that 54 foreign and domestic automakers recalled more than 1.84 million vehicles in China over the past four years.
Recalls were rare in China before a system was set up on Oct. 1,2004 by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and related authorities. Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. made the single largest recall, which involved more than 420,000 Accords in March 2007.
Mercedes-Benz conducted the most frequent recalls: 19 between February 2005 and December 2008, involving 38,657 vehicles.

May 12, 2009 - Swedish automaker Volvo Car Corp said it started yesterday to recall 3,136 imported S80 sedans in China due to windshield wiper flaws, xinhuanet.com said.
In a report to China's top quality supervisor -- the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Volvo said it had identified a deviation in the Central Electronic Module (CEM) software in its S80 cars that may cause malfunction of the windshield wipers.
If this happens, the windshield wipers may not work when needed, or they may work when not activated. These problems pose some safety hazard to the car's driving, especially on a rainy day.
However, Volvo added that the long-wheelbase the S80L version locally made in China (by Changan Ford Mazda) has no such fault and is not included in the recall list this time.
The affected Volvo S80 sedans were all imported and produced between January 24, 2006 and June 4, 2007. Volvo and its Chinese dealers will contact the owners and inspect the CEM and upgrade the software free of charge.

December 16, 2009 - According to China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, three automobile manufacturers — Ford Motor, Chang'an Ford, and SGMW — are recalling defective vehicles in China.
The number of cars that Ford Motor, Chang'an Ford and SGMW (SAIC-GM-Wuling) are recalling is reported to be 528, 11,112 and 5,068, respectively. The three companies state, according to local media, that they will offer free rectification services to consumers to remove any possible problems with the cars involved.
Ford Motor is recalling Ford Windstar cars manufactured between March 1, 1994, and September 26, 2001; Econolin cars manufactured between March 18, 1996, and January 8, 2001; and Explorer cars manufactured between February 25, 1995, and May 19, 1997.
The company says that overheating, smoking, or burning may occur on the speed control deactivation switch of these cars, which may cause a fire in the engine. In addition, due to interference between the NVH layer of the back floor and the quick release coupling of the oil pump, a leak may in occur some extreme cases.
Chang'an Ford will recall some of the Volvo S40 cars made between December 1, 2006, and October 9, 2008 due to a mismatch of the rear engine oil cylinder.
SGMW plans to recall Wuling Zhiguang and Wuling Hongtu buses made between August 4 and October 5, 2009.
