martin_krpan 04-05-2009, 09:24 AM SAIC are already showing a very rough outline of a concept car they will show at the Shanghai Show:

KiwiGuy 05-02-2009, 01:57 AM Nicely done. Who says the Chinese do good cars? BTW does Roewe have plans to make this thing?
martin_krpan 05-03-2009, 09:03 AM Speculation has it that the N1 is based on the underpinnings of the Roewe 550.
According to some sources the N1 is in essence a thinly disguised version of the planned production model that is set to go on sale in China next year. The compact-sized sedan will sit below the 550 in Roewe's vehicle line-up.
martin_krpan 06-10-2009, 12:05 PM The Roewe N1 concept will become the Roewe 350.
From China car Times:
When Roewe first came to be, the first car that rolled off the line was the gentry like Roewe 750 with a big 2.5 V6 engine, over a short time Chinese consumers have quickly adapted to high oil prices and are quickly shying away from gigantic power plants that suck their purses dry to smaller turbo assisted engines that pack the punch of a 6 cylinder engine but with the economy of a 4 pot. Roewe are responding well to market conditions with the introduction of 1.8T, and future 1.5 and 1.5T engines, the 1.5 will also fall into a lower sales tax bracket meaning more sales all round.
The Roewe N1 concept at the Shanghai Auto Show showed that Roewe are thinking smaller, and more compact than their current Roewe 550. The Roewe N1 concept looks set to become the Roewe 350, and the first rendered images were leaked to the internet.
Of course this isnt the first time this particular vehicle has been spotted, a test mule was sighted in Australia earlier this year undergoing road testing.
This particular car has been codenamed the AP11 project, and is being worked on by both MG and SAIC. Plans for the 350/AP11 are plentiful with both four door sedans, the AP12 will be a 5 door hatch, and the AP13 will be a small SUV, and the final car on this platform will be the AP14, an estate/wagon. auto.sohu.com are reporting that the 350 is riding on a heavily modified Rover 45 platform, which in turn was a much older Honda Civic platform.
Around 60 AP11 vehicles have been handbuilt to date for testing, which could mean that some of these vehicles are in the UK for testing as well as Australia and China.
SAIC are hoping to show off the Roewe 350 sedan on January 30th and begin production on Feb 28th 2010. SAIC are going for sales of 60,000 per year with this year, or monthly sales of 8000-10,000 (at least according to auto.sohu.com), although these sales figures might be across the range (hatch, sedan, wagon, and SUV).
The Roewe 350 might be SAIC’s answer to the highly popular Brilliance FRV (which is currently selling at a record rate) in hatch, and crossover form, and will be joined by a sedan brother later this year.

KiwiGuy 06-29-2009, 03:31 AM Roewe when released will use a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox, I think it is) in the N1 made by BorgWarner, which I think is the same company that make the gearboxes for Volkswagen. Any news on the possible Roewe hatch?

jmsteiny 10-27-2009, 08:32 AM Wow..................VERY nice. Also nice to see a real automatic transmission in a small car, and not a AMT - not that I have anything against a AMT, but I think this could be a VERY popular car once it hits the market. A classy, upscale look in a small car package.........if it can compete with the FRV with price it will be a amazing deal. Frankly, I see this car more as a competitor for the Fit/Polo/Accent/Yaris/Livinia crowd - I don't think Roewe will be able to get the price down low enough to really be price competitive with the FRV. Also, one more car to throw into the mix - the upcoming next generation HRV (a rebadged Opel Astra). What a hot, competitive segment of the market......I love it!:thumb:
jmsteiny 12-03-2009, 06:29 AM OK, I'm curious here................no debut of the Roewe 350 at the Guangzhou show? The absence of news is surprising to say the least - this seems like the perfect car to make Roewe more affordable for a larger customer base - plus it's a BEAUTIFUL car! Come on Roewe..........don't make us wait that much longer!

jmsteiny 03-21-2010, 12:04 PM VERY interesting interior pics...........Roewe is going to have TWO different versions with a automatic transmission. One pic is a auto tranny with manual a/c and CD player, the other has climate control and a DVD/GPS screen. Usually if you want a auto tranny in a chinese car, you have no choice but to get a fully loaded verision of the car (i.e. more expensive). It's nice to see that Roewe is offering a auto tranny to consumers in a more basic configuration....yes, there are some consumers that might want a auto tranny WITHOUT having all the other "bells and whistles"!! I am REALLY looking forward to seeing this car "in the flesh" and giving it a test spin......it just might shoot up to the top of my very exclusive "I WANT IT" list!!
Rally Red Lancer GTS 03-21-2010, 09:30 PM jmsteiny-related to your comment is this thought of mine. My latest "want it now" car is the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi GTS in Platinum Silver Metallic paint. I want the 6-speed GTS that has a sunroof, 425-watt Rockford Fosgate stereo, foglights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob. I test-drove one in Henderson, NV, at a dealership about 5 miles from the Las Vegas strip. The one I drove was an automatic in Pearl Black.
The car drives like a dream! It's steering is taut though forgiving through the turns. It takes the bumps and has a way of flattening them out for you. The knobs are pretty intuitive on the console and steering wheel. Noise is pretty easy on the ears inside, too. I loved the car. They didn't have a Platinum Silver Metallic one with the 6-speed in stock there.
They had a 6-speed GTS in Vivid Red, but were not budging in their negotiations enough for me, so I walked. But I can't seem to drive the car out of my mind now!

Windy 03-24-2010, 09:03 AM It's nice to see that Roewe is offering a auto tranny to consumers in a more basic configuration
The top of the range will have a duel clutch DSG tranny along with turbo engine so this auto is considered mid range.
martin_krpan 03-24-2010, 01:38 PM China's SAIC to build Roewe 350 sedan in UK
Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. plans to build and sell a right-hand drive version of its newly unveiled Roewe 350 hatchback in England, said Chen Zhixing, executive vice president of SAIC.
Chen, who is also head of SAIC's own brand vehicles, made the remarks at the ceremony held last week in the east China city of Nanjing marking the new car's roll-off from the production line.
The new car, which rolled off the production line at SAIC's Pukou plant in Nanjing, has a wheelbase of 2,650mm. It is 4,520mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,500 high. It carries a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a five-speed automated mechanical transmission.
Pricing information of the Roewe 350 remains unknown. Chen didn't provide a timeframe for the car's production in England.
At present, SAIC has a plant as well as an r&d team in Longbridge in England.
SAIC sold some 90,000 units of its own brand cars in China in 2009, including both the Roewe- and MG-branded models. The company, a General Motors Co. and Volkswagen AG partner in China, expects to double the sales of its own brand cars this year.
In January, SAIC said it plans to sell UK-made MG cars in Europe at the end of the year. Assembly of MG-series models, including the MG 6, would begin at its Longbridge plant in England late this year, SAIC Chairman Hu Maoyuan told Reuters on the sidelines of Shanghai's annual People's Political Consultative Conference.
Hu said MG models would not only be sold in Britain but also in other European countries through the existing MG sales network.
SAIC became the owner of MG Rover's 10,000-unit Longbridge plant in Birmingham, central England in 2007, after a merger with its much smaller peer, Nanjing Automobile Group. Nanjing had aquired MG Rover in 2005 after Britain's last remaining domestic volume carmaker collapsed through financial difficulties.
SAIC launched its first self-developed car, the Roewe 750, based on technologies acquired from MG Rover, in March of that year, followed by the Roewe 550 and MG 6 models, popular with young, elite professionals in China.
One option for SAIC is to make complete knocked down (CKD) kits for the models in China and have them assembled in the UK-plant, Hu said in January.

Should I buy one?
In the Chinese market this is a good car, if not class-leading one. In Europe that's unlikely to be enough, but it's worth remembering, though, that there will be significant changes before it goes on sale as an MG - and that's why we're reserving final judgement.

martin_krpan 06-24-2010, 09:47 AM SAIC rolls out 10,000th Roewe 350 at Nanjing plant
SAIC Motor's 10,000th own-brand Roewe 350 car recently rolled off the production line at its Nanjing plant, located in the Pukou district of Nanjing city, Jiangsu province, China. The monthly output of the plant has reached 6,000 vehicles at present, Nanjing Daily reported yesterday.
SAIC Motor rolled out its first Roewe 350 in March this year, with an output of only 300 units. Three months later, the output has unexpectedly reached more than 5,000 units and is heading for a higher level.
Reportedly, the designed output in June at the Nanjing plant is 6,500 units, with 5,400 Roewe 350 included. In July, the output of the Roewe 350 is expected to reach a record 7,300 units, bringing the plant's monthly output to over 8,000 units.
The Roewe 350 got 10,000 orders even in the first month after its launching in March, resulting in demand exceeding supply in the current Chinese market, SAIC Motor's sales company said.
SAIC Motor's Nanjing plant has set the annual sales target of the Roewe 350 at 50,000 units for this year. It is now operating on two shifts.
