Firstly the Shanghai Motor Show was not "this year" it was last year (2005).

The V5 Crossover is not an SUV, (Sport Utility Vehicle). The US is supposed to recieve the Crossover and an all new SUV among other vehicles. They will not be the same. The writer has just confused himself and the readers who are reading this article.

Crossovers are "SUVs." Atleast in America, that's how they're marketed as.

Daewoo Magnus never did well in crash tests anyway, Chery will practically have to outsource a brand new chassis to underpin New Crossover if they wish to obtain a 5 star rating in crash test.

There is a big gap in reality here. Malcolm Bricklin is demanding Chery to somehow magically produce a car that can go head to head with Lexus and Mercedes, while the current New Crossover was sincerely Chery's very best effort and could do no more.

As for MPV's and minivans, I believe they invariably have at least one sliding door to distinguisn them from other body types.

So according to this report, the earliest date a Chery could enter the US market is the end of 2008. But I really don't expect to see a Chery until 2010 at the earliest, then it will be laughed at on the streets....

Chery Crossover is a vehicle that looks like a cross between an MPV and a wagon. Looks like a larger Toyota Matrix or a Renault Grand Scenic. Certain spy shots show it is a 5-seater.

Its a careless use of a generic term to descirbe a wrong vehicle.

RC I was not finding fault with your words. Rather I was offering that article's clarification because the issue of the confusion of terms had come up before on this forum. In fact I may have been the one of the most confused.

You are right, for marketing purposes, crossovers are often labeled SUVs.

Now if we really want to get into a confusing discussion we can go into the differences among MPVs, AUVs, SRVs, BPVs, SAVs, CUVs, BUVs and others, as seen used for marketing in the Chinese auto industry.
