Here is a list of Chinese car makers which are sold outside China. Can you come up with more ??

------------------------------------------------------------------------

BYD

Selling some cars in South American markets. In Russia too.

Chang'an

China's fourth biggest car maker will be attending 2006 Geneva Auto Show this spring with four models.

Chery

Chery Automotive has announced it will start exporting cars to Europe in 2007. Chery has already exported some cars to Iran, Malaysia and Egypt. Chery QQ is now made in Iran and also for sale in Russia.

Geely

Selling some cars in South American markets.

Great Wall

Sales starting in Italy in spring 2006 and Spain in summer of 2006. Hover and Deer models first offered. Deer and Deer SUV are already sold in Russia since 2005.

Jiangling

Bijevields (the importer) has secured sales rights in 27 European countries. So far for sale in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Lifan

Lifan has big plans. I heard their going to North America in 2009 !

Mudan

Small factory in Pakistan.

Shuguang

Small factory in North Korea.

Zhonghua

To be sold in Germany in summer 2006. Maybe in other European countries too (??)

Zhongxing

Sold in Russia and Middle East since year 2005.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Also many truck and bus manufacturers are exporting like FAW and Golden Dragon.

Let's keep this thread up-to-date whenever new information comes :)

While not fully Chinese owned the Shanghai-VW Polo Sedan was sold in Australia for about a year.

I wonder why they decided to venture to australia market before many submarkets first?

phaeton
03-25-2006, 02:48 AM
Who knows:confused:

It was a weird move due to our market being RHD you would have thought they would have exported elsewhere (LHD market).

Maybe it was a marketing or just to prove engineering ability, who knows ?

Admin
03-25-2006, 02:50 AM
How did the car sales do in australia??
did they also market in new zealand?

phaeton
03-25-2006, 04:14 AM
SVW Polo Sedans were only sold in Australia.

Sales were not good, VW Australia wanted annual sales of 600 a year for 5 yrs.
They never broke the 100 unit mark during its sale here (for a year) unfortunately.

Press were excited at start of deal but some models had minor rattles that got into press vehicles, although this is not the major reason of it failing.
VW Aust. priced it very high for its class.

Another reason for its flop might be people were scared of Chinese product.

BTW Rattles are not just a Chinese cars fault most makers have minor faults like this I've read many reviews with this fault.

BYD Auto is also selling the FLYER ( new facelift ) here , very cheap $6500 but I think its alot much better than the crappy Geely HQ which is sold for the same .

Also there are some wierd chinese motorcycles that I will try to get thier names soon , I saw wierd cuz they look so out of proportions.

I have a spyshot of a Brilliance GALENA chasis being put together and painted in the BAG ( Bavarian Auto Group - BMW factory here that puts together the new 3 , 5 , x3 and soon the 7 series ) as its supposed to start to build them up in a few months .

Ghabour Group ( Hyundai dealer and factory here , the number 1 selling cars in Egypt ) just recently made an agreement with FAW , to become the Only Dealer/Distributor of FAW cars and trucks in the Middle east and to build some of them at the Hyundai Factory .

now dates yet , just announcements .

The Geely distrubitor here , Symex has also managed to get another chineese company , Chang An or something like that , selling a wierd looking MPV called Combo for the same price of a CK-1 .

Raul
04-19-2006, 12:19 PM
Again thanks for the information Cryptonx !

By the way does the "Combo" look something like this ?

05-20-2006, 09:22 AM
Raul I cannot open your picture but I'm guessing that by the name Combo, Cryptonx is referring to the CM8 which I think you mentioned somewhere, is a 5-7 passenger minivan model, designed and engineered in Turin, Italy, by I.DE.A. Institute.
Here it is on a street said to be in Eygpt and staged for export.

Admin
05-20-2006, 01:50 PM
the van looks good in the bulk pic.....the back and side view are nice...not to sure about the front

cryptonx
05-20-2006, 05:28 PM
yes it is is the CM8 , which somehow also shares alot from the Hafei Mini ( MPV )

the design is very nice but the wheelbase is ridiclous , and the wheels size as well , for such a realtively large car it has 13" and a wheelbase similar to a QQ !!

comes in a 1.3L engine I think with f/o for the price of a CK/A11
the Hafei Mini is a bit cheaper tho , but its still has the wierd narrow wheelbase and the very small wheels .

the most laughable chinese car in the Egyptian market is the Geely Coupe , which is cheaper by $6.500 from a Hyundai COUPE 1.6L

it has a strange funny look , strange features ! " karoke " ! and a strange engine ! 1.5L !!

and a strange price as well ( $15,000 ) making it almost useless ... I've seen one red one driven by some old woman , I think she thought its a supra or someting :P ( no offence , but the car just looks funny )

The Brilliance Galena 2.0 has started the invasion , its being assemeblled in the Local BMW factory as well ( home of the new 3,5 X3 and soon the 7 series ) .

has full options ( 4 airbags ) costs $26.000

i think it will be a winner , with a 2.0 engine its almost half the price of the new BMW 320 and the same price as a 1.6 corrolla .

and cheaper than a 1.6 Passat and a 1.6 Jetta as well .

for a large luxury sedane its unbeatable .

The VW Polo Sedan has been built and sold in Brazil since 2003
To see it go to the VW's site in Brazil: www.vw.com.br
Go and look for Polo Sedan.
Brazilian built Polos Sedan were sold in Europe for about two years, and they exist now only here in Brazil and South Africa. For now the only Brazilian VW in Europe is the Fox. Other Brazilian VW's in China are: VW Gol, that is an entirely Brazilian project; and the VW Santana, a Brazilian project that is based on the mid '80s VW Passat; both built in China.

Raul

Yes I know it's incomplete. I realized at some point that it's just too difficult to keep up with the news. About Xinkai, we had one Russian member here earlier and he told that Xinkai's quality was terrible and they failed to sell enough cars and quietly pulled off the market.

Since 2003, some Chinese auto enterprises began to export vehicles to Russia, almost all capable enterprises like

SAIC Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., Great Wall Motor Company Limited, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd, Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd, Beiqi Motor Co. Ltd, China Faw Group Corporation, Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co., Ltd, Yuejin Vehicle Company Limited, Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automobile Co, Ltd, Suzhou Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd, Zhongtong Bus Holding Co., Ltd and Hebei Zhongxing Automobile Manufacture Co.Ltd
exported to Russia and gained certain achievements. Relying on good price performance, China's auto products have developed a preferable market space in Russia.

As for the changing market environment, Xu Hai, GM Assistant of FAW Import & Export Co., said that with great varieties of products, FAW could adjust its strategies in time when changes happen so as to spread risks. FAW has basically determined the market strategy: take heavy-duty business cars and economic cars as the main direction in Russia market; take middle and light trucks, passenger cars, and micro cars as the supplementary; make the whole product family as a collaboration, take SKD assembly as the main, set up a joint venture production base, build sales service network, and launch products in the market as soon as possible. At present, the market development of FAW in Russia has entered substantial execution phase, large-scale knock-down export and local assembly will start this year. Next year there will be more assembly items, cars and passenger cars will start assembly in succession. This year, vehicle and KD export is predicted to hit 10,000 vehicles, and in the future 2 to 3 years, passenger cars will realize transition from SKD assembly to CKD assembly. FAW is targeting at a sales volume of 40,000 in Russia in 2010, and a sales value of US$0.7 billion in 2011.

No matter what kind of way is adopted to compete in Russia market, insiders said that the most important thing to do right now is to lay a solid foundation. Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd, Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co., Ltd, China Faw Group Corporation, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd, North Benz Co., Ltd and Great Wall Motor Company Limited all regard the improving of quality and brand recognition and the building of perfect after sales service system as the advantageous conditions of competing in Russia market.

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Chery Automobile Co Ltd, China's fourth largest carmaker, said it launched sales operations in Chile on Sept 1 via a local agent, SK Berge.

The carmaker said in a statement that the initial lineup in Chile includes its QQ and Tiggo models, which will later be joined by the QQ6 and A5 cars.

Chery Auto exported 52,712 cars in the first half, almost tripling year-earlier shipments of 13,548 units. Overall sales for the period totaled 190,362 units, compared to 133,200 a year earlier.

also no presence of brilliance auto:confused:

This is from their website:

"The 3 ton range is produced by the Kama factory in China..."

Quite small manufacturer and the user experiences I read weren't flattering. The quality is simply terrible. Despite of that few hundred trucks have been sold. Here are some owner interviews:

yeah watched the interview on tv with the owners and the brand marketers, the quality of the trucks was far from good but the programme had a tinge of propaganda to it too

I noted you said they where produced by Kama, when checking the site www.wuzheng.com i noted they market Kama Trucks - are wuzheng and Kama one and the same?

Here is KAMA's official website

http://www.kamaqc.com/en/cpjs.asp

There is no mention of Wuzheng anywhere there. Both KAMA and Wuzheng are from Shandong province though, maybe they co-operate together somehow.

Hi Raul and GGA:
In May of 2007 Wuzheng North America's director, a former contributor to this forum, said that Wuzheng had changed its name to Kama.
