VW Passat CC to be made in China as Magotan CC

Volkswagen's Chinese partner FAW Group is expected to put the VW Passat CC into production in China in early 2010.

The Passat CC is likely to have its name changed to Magotan CC for the Chinese market and may be equipped with the locally built 1.8TSI or 2.0TSI engine which is shared by the regular Magotan sedan line-up.

The Passat CC is currently sold in China for just over 500,000 yuan ($73,200) with a 3.6l AWD setup, and the future Chinese built one is likely to be FWD and with only the 4 cylinder engines available, China Car Times said.

Volkswagen's Chinese line-up has varying generations of cars sold side by side, yet they still manage to sell well despite the overlap.

While the Passat B5 (and 5.5) may have died in overseas markets by 2005, sales continued in China with various facial updates for several years. The Passat Mk6 is built and marketed as the Magotan by FAW-VW, and the new Passat is sold by another Chinese venture Shanghai-VW.

The Passat R36 is also sold in China, via the VW import dealership networks alongside the Toureg, Scirocco, and Multivan.

FAW-VW puts VW CC car into mass production

FAW-Volkswagen held a ceremony for producing its new car CC in Changchun, capital of northeastern Jilin Province, on April 20, which marks FAW's flagship product Volkswagen CC has been officially put into mass production.

As for the appearance, the CC car's waistline has been lifted up a lot. Specially designed, the CC car is largely formed with high-temp and intense-heat shaped steel plates and welded with the laser welding technology.

The CC car is also the first B-class vehicle, which is equipped with panoramic sunroof, frameless doors, adaptive cruise control system and lane keeping system, bringing the driver a more humane operating experience and better security.

Moreover, the car uses a power portfolio of the TSI engine (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) and the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), and reduces the fuel consumption of at least 15% and carbon emissions of at least 20% compared with the conventional powertrain system.

An Tiecheng, general manager of FAW-VW, said CC's official production has not only expanded the joint venture's product line, but also more importantly has further proved the company's mature project management capability and its rapid control capabilities of the production capacity of multi-brand products.
