Really nice looking vehical, love it, and only 99 999 RMB sweet, too bad its not in Canada. The only thing that gets me is the name, i mean "eastar"???, dont you mean easter as it the egg? i know the original name is oriental son and theres lots of blah blah blah about it but i dont think changing the name to eastar would kill it especially if it wants to come to north america. and i know the chinese name is dong fang zi zhi or something (dont really know alot about pingying) and they want to making it feel really chinese style car, or very long de chwan run (again i suck at this pingying/ zhuying stuff). but i think if chery wants to go international, it better start with good names not like A11 of S12 etc, but actually names such as gallardo,aveo, or enzo.

99,999RMB is for the manual transmission with no leather, sunroof, or foglights. For an automatic with leather, sunroof, and other options is going to cost more.

And there are a number of other features not on Son of Orient, like power folding side mirrors, dual airbags, a 6 banger engine standard, etc. So Daewoo is actually a better value than a Chery, thereby proving that Chinese auto manufacturing doesn't really have the cost advantage that many Chinese falsely perceive to have. This was already testified by companies like Honda and Hyundai building cars in China, but Chinese find it hard to believe.

This is the reason why GM imports 1 million+ cars/year from Korea and not from China.

The chevrolet spark cost $1000 more than Chery QQ.
That's because Chinese market Spark has a higher quality relative to QQ. And also add the 10% import duty and shipping on Spark(Spark is built from an imported knocked down kit). And GM likes to actually make some money on Spark, unlike Chery making $50 on each QQ sold.

Manufacturing cost wise there is no difference between a Spark and a QQ, although the Spark has higher quality.

I used to drive a magnus as it was my father's car and now my younger brother drives it. Even the interior is identical and little bit change at the front gril and the front headlight. I think the chery would be able to get out from any legal issues by making some changes to it. But I don't see any of it and doubt if they're even able to make the change from the original one.

The attached pictures are the picture of used magnus 2000 yr version, which is for a sale. This car has a mileage of 190,000Km :eek:. For me, it doesn't look like just "inspired".


So,it's just my thought that the chery is building this car to gain some experience of mid size sedan, but I'll be suprised if they export this one:nono:

Yeah they tend to endorse their own home-grown brands more such as Holden and Ford. Hyundai manufactures good quailty, nicely priced cars and I would definately take a Hyundai over a Holden. I don't really favor any modern GM vehicles apart from the Corvette.

Well i dont think its an illegal replica, i think chery is somehow making work with daewoo. Here in Egypt, Chery models are assembled in the Daewoo factory.

Daewoo used to have dozens of factories around the world , including my country Egypt .

the problem is , when GM aquired Daewoo , IT DID NOT purchase/aquire all of the factories arround the world , leaving The Egyptian Factory ( Daewoo Motors Egypt S.A.E ) unmerged with GM , which pissed off alot of Daewoo dealers/factories around the world .

Our local factory is continuing to assmeble and manufacture the 1999 Daewoo Lanos and the 1999 Daewoo Nubira until THIS present day !

But, they never produced Magnus in Egypt nor factory at other countries. And Come on~~ for the business people........ the numbers on paper explain everything... the logic doesn't bring them any money... And may be the number was not good enough to run the factory in Egypt and others. In fact, a lot of korean lost their jobs after the bankruptcy.

Anyway, I don't care whether they copied or not as none of these cars are on the production. But the cherry got attention with QQ successfully in china.

A6 2.0 engine 125 HP weights about 1460 KG

that means A6 will have a poor performance ( acclerating ) despite it has good torque 168/3000 ( only in low speeds )
In china since june 2006 they provide A6 Easter with 2.0 acteco DOHC engine with corporate with AWL which produces the A5 engine
why not to supply the a6 here in egypt with this advanced motor I dont know may be the deal to get the old technology mitsubishi engine 2.0 ( 1995 -1999 ) that only meets the euro2 emissions not euro4 as the acteco engine
if you asked anybody got this car i think he will never think what i am saying

The slaggish-selling V5 series (V520, V525) has been rebranded as Eastar Cross (B 14) which went into production in 3/07. However, Eastar (B11) is an old model with EOP end 2008. The more promissing successor, the B12 - and for overseas markets the A6 (B21) - shall arrive at dealer end of year.

During my last stay at Chery operations i saw a SOP picture on the wall, indicating that the A6 (B21) are ready for production on 28.8.2007 ( on lucky day, two "8" in the date).

Eastar sale is not good in China, but it may have a big market international special in mid-east and east europe area, so let's wait the A6 series which will cause a storm in the auto market.

It's size is more comparable with VW's Passat and Ford's Mondeo. But in China it is much cheaper than those two. The Chery will do around 13000$, while the other twe are closer to 20.000$. The shape is borrowed from the Daewoo Leganza, Chery also borrowed the QQ's shape from the Daewoo Matiz. How they exactly got the drawings is unknown.

Chery claims they got it legally when Deawoo was in it's worst financial shape. However, when GM bought Daewoo, they sued Chery about the QQ in China but lost. The didn't bother to sue Chery for the Leganza anymore.

what's the matter ?

Chery have been working on a secret vehicle for the past few months, a vehicle that has only just come to light! The vehicle in question is none other than a Chery Eastar convertible!

It appears that the B Pillar of the Eastar has been removed, and the overall length of car increased, presumebly to fit the roof in and neaten up the exterior appearence. We cannot guess what time, or if, the Eastar will hit the market, it could be that the ragtop Eastar is a a skunk project, a car which Chery are just developing to see if it can be done for the sake of it.

Chery has unveiled various soft top coupes in the past, but it appears none have made it to production as of yet.

Chery's smart marketing plan, this space launch is one of the most high profile event in China this year even possibly in China's history, and the welcoming back parade sure will attract a lot of onlookers, people, so using Cherys will sure attract more buyers and somehow increase Chery's prestige and quality standing, like saying " look even Chinese government now confident with Chery to use it instead of Mercedes or VW" . This also suggests that the Chinese government is really determined to make Chery a national champion in auto sector, and will do anything to pushi it into global stage.

Chery Auto to launch Easter limo model in '09

Shanghai, December 26 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Auto has decided to launch an all-new Eastar model -- Eastar limousine -- in 2009, said xinhuanet.com today citing a Chery insider. The limo model will sell from 101,800 ($14,900) to 128,800 yuan, more expensive by just 10,000 yuan than the old Eastar model.

Chery Auto has sold its Eastar (Son of East) cars for many years, but now the model is getting outdated and its sales are not promising in the increasingly competitve market. The source said that the Chery Eastar limo is an all-new revamp of the previous Eastar model and will feature many upgraded practical configurations.

The Eastar model of Chery Auto has targeted at the mid- and high-end market of business sedans, and in 2009 Eastar will present itself as an all-new limo in this market. In addition to a 2.0L automatic edition, a 1.9L diesel edition of Eastar limo will be released as well next year.

Its price will be 10,000 yuan higher than the old Eastar model now available for 91,800-118,800 yuan in the market. The all-new Eastar limo is expected to restore Chery Eastar to its former glory.

is it just me or the interior of that limo is really not luxurious looking at all ? or to say it bluntly CHEAP !!

Hello everybody, I am manager of the automotive industry here in Spain. I wish to know when to reach Spain, France and Portugal extraordinary Chinese cars. The Eastar is a very cuality car for Euro Estandars!

I am really very pleasantly surprised with Chinese brands such as Geely, Chery and Brilliance. Nobody knows when they reach Western Europe?

I'm from KSA and i have Eastar for daily usage it powered by 2.4 Mitsubishi engine.. it looks great, performance is fine but that's not enough for me and i wanna increase some hp by installing a K&N air filter. So, anyone can tell me if a Mitsu Galant's air filter can fit on my Eastar?

I've installed a custom CAI and i've increased about 12-15 hp on 2.4 engine, that's pretty good and the sound is great!!
