I would call this truck the GoNow "Rough Rider" a name that has instant recognition as an American legend. Not one maker of trucks builds anything like this for an affordable price, or even at all. Defenders are no longer sold here and when new cost 40k and the rest of the trucks sold here are soft and filled with luxuries that arent needed.

The Gonow cars would not sell well in the US.

I am someone who has worked close to the (US and euro) auto industry for a while now in the US, and have been on the inside of many big successes.

The Gonow company, working with a company that offers design, engineering and business management, could be a spectactular success in the US and all over the world. However the problem is that the company does not know what it needs to be a success of any level in this market.

In China, some companies sell only 20,000 units total and are profitable. In the US, a company needs to sell more than that of a single model for that model to be profitable.

Teaming up with a large capital investor to cover the new model development (which would still be cheaper than US development costs) as well as a few other tooling and manufacturing companies, Gonow could reach the level of Hyundai in less than 10 years. Plus, keeping close to their current manufacturing costs could yield huge profits.

But, not with their present product. The American buyer is too picky. No matter how cheap it is, they want quality, and more than they think they paid for.

First of all, why would you want to buy such c**p?
Second, as Jason said, in order to get a licence plate, you need to show the vehicle is road worthy in the EU. This involves doing homologation by yourself. Not a big deal, as Jason may suggest - it's only a matter of 4-5 years and a few million euros (for euro-4 approval).

Jason, as a general rule, no one works for free. In order to enter developed markets in the west, you will need to invest major $$$.

Firstly, I don't care if this pick-up is an EXACT copy of any reliable, albeit older version of an Isuzu. At least it has a proven track record? and will cost nearly half of the "original"...which makes it affordable for me to now buy a new pick-up for a change!

1. Anyone that can comment on fuel effiency? The old Toyota 4Y engine was apparently quite a fuel guzzler from what I can pick up from web searches. That engine was carburator fed thought, while the "newer" one is injection fed.

2. Anyone know about durability / "rust-proofness" of these vehicles?
I live about 40 kms inland from the sea and rust is always a concern to me...

Anyone know if Gonow uses a different chassis or axle than GWM?

In South Africa, the single cab pickup from Gonow can only carry a load of 925kg, while single cab pickup from GWM can carry a load of 1080kg!

Both pickups weighs 1420kg

From research it appears that both Gonow & GWM & others use the same axle & suspension...each uses it's own "glue" plant to paste them together ;)

I will let you know the outcome of the payload difference as soon as I have an answer...

Yes, i agree that there is still a long way to go for all China OEMs including Gonow.

Capital, technology, Brand equity, Intellectual Property, sales channel, after-sales networks are lying barriers for China OEMs so far.

-That is a necessity for China car industry's growth, think back Japanese cars in 1970s, that is a disaster you owned a Japan car by then.
- China OEMs realized those obstacles and tried hard to overcome
- The overall business/political environment made this situation changeable

so I always got a very positive opinion towards China cars’ going aboard..for them, that is just a matter of time.

question: did gonow send an Alter to chile for homologation?, Who imported it?, a person or an importer?, can you give us his "name"?

because...one more chinese brand on our market is...ehhmm...too much...our market is completely saturated...more than 15 brands...i think it will happen the same as when proton arrived to chile 12-13 years ago...the brand dissapear, or the importer kick-off the brand or it will be rejected by emissions (as the same with Lada) or simply that brands merge or goes into bankrupcy
