Hello everyone!

I am geralilio, an Assistant Manager for a Great Wall dealer here in the Philippines. We just opened our Dealership last Friday, and we had a chance to have the staff members of our local version of Top Gear Magazine as guests. Apparently, i cannot post URL's yet since this is my first post, but once I am able to, I'll post the URL immediately. Or, you may just google "Top Gear Philippines".

Anyway, the local distributor brought in 6 Great Wall Models, namely the Coolbear, Peri, Florid, Hover, Cowry, and Wingle. We got mostly positive reactions from people except for some who are still skeptical about the quality of China-made cars.

We managed to sell a 4x4 Hover on our first night, and I think there will be more sales to come. Great Wall products, I think will be very competitive here in our country, as they offer great value for money and good looks.

I'd like to say hi to micodelija, whom I've been following in this forum for a while already. I really like how he stands by Great Wall with all his heart. I will try to do the same here in the Philippines. I will also try to post some pictures of our Showroom here at the forums once I get around learning how to post pictures.

Anyway, thanks guys, and I hope to talk to all of you! :D

Hi Martin! Thanks for your reply.

Hello again micodelija. I have some questions for you. Is the 2.8L TC engine of the hover and wingle really rated at 95hp and 225Nm of torque? because i think that is a bit low for a CRDI engine with a big displacement. Just to compare, a mitsubishi montero sport being sold here in the Philippines with a 2.5L engine is rated at 134hp and 320Nm. But one of our clients was able to drive both cars and he thinks that the hover is more powerful.

I hope you can answer my question. Thank you! :D

problem is in chinese laws about fuel consuption,i am sure that you see that many suv anc pick up manifactures in china have the same engines or similiar, gasoline 2.2 with 78 kw, 2.4 with 93 kw, diesel 2.8 with 57 or 70 kw. that's the only reason why this engine have 70 kw or 95 hp, that low don't allow engines with big power and big fuel consuption

for the comparing between hover and mitsubishi, maybe hover have better gear ratio then mitsubishi, but i am sure that with 134 hp mitsubishi have better top speed

but if you start work with gwm, you can also order new diesel engines like 2.5 tci or 2.8 tci, 2.5 tci have 80 kw and 300 nm, while 2.8 tci have 85 kw and 285 nm, 2.5 tci is quite popular in china and gwm also export lot of vehciles with such engine

Hi micodelija thanks for your reply. I could not really get in touch with Great Wall directly because we are just one of the dealers here in the Philippines. There is an exclusive distributor who brings in the cars for us. Hopefully when the Hover gets refreshed, we'll get a better engine than this one, and maybe automatic transmission also.

There are also a lot of other China brands here such as:

Chery
JAC
JMC
Jimbei
Dongfeng
Chana
Lifan

Top brands here now in the Philippines that are not China Cars are the following:

Toyota
Honda
Mitsubishi
Kia
Hyundai
Mazda
Ford

Here in the Philippines, Kia is actually more expensive than Hyundai because the two brands are distributed by different companies. But, they are both more expensive than Mitsubishi and Toyota.

By the way micodelija, I also want to ask, are the engine parts of Great Wall compatible with other brands? Like maybe the 1.3L and 1.5L gasoline engine would be compatible to Toyota or the 2.8L diesel will be compatible to Isuzu? Sorry if I have so many questions. I really love this brand and I want to be able to market it here in our country the best way I can.

i think that you shoud have better coomunication with your importer, to see what are their plans, great wall how have in offer the new diesel engines which are quite good

for the prices, usually great wall models shoud be at least 20% lower that other brands like toyota, mitusubishi and other, for the diesel parts, they fits on some isuzu engines without problem, simply you check for the code 4JB1 and compare the parts before ordering, especially oil filters and even some inside parts of the engines, for 1.3 and 1.5 i didn't have any expiriance because they aren't in offer in europe

On Dec 5th, 2009 in Manila held the grand opening ceremony of Alabang Showroom, which is the first one of GWM in the Philippines. Mr Zhang Zhaoning, the chairman of GWM distributor in the Philippines - Statemotor cooperation took presence at the ribbon – cutting ceremony, and delivered an important speech. Many people from the same field and journalists attended the ceremony. This ceremony officially unveiled the curtain of Great Wall motors’ entrance into the Philippines market.

Well Cape Verde is a tiny market, in the island whre i am stablished live 15.000 people only.

So far i sold 20 units in 20 years, its one ok number f.y.i. its comparable to mitsubishi and isuzu.

So far no serious problems, the clients are very happy with the cars, some have more thans 50.000 kms.
The main problem is the rust that atacks some parts of the cars ( the clima is very dificult in here )

Hi TDI, thanks for the reply. I see so that's one thing I have to watch out for. What is it like in Cape Verde? Dry weather? Tropical, or what? We've talked to Zeibart already regarding the rustproofing, and I hope we can prevent rust from the units as early as possible.

tdi

These are tiny islands in the middle of atlantic; at night the cars are covered with sea moist that corrods the cars.
Besides that the island as a few salt mines, there is salt in every piece of land, and when it rains the mud remains atached to the cars.

When the cars arrive i give them a rust protective paint underneath, i also advice the clients to service them every 3 months. I had some problems with the hover and wingle? remains water inside the door panel, and they rust from inside out.
FYI the Ford Ranger built in Thailand rust much faster than GWM vehicles.

Hi TDI!

Wow, that's great to hear. Our products are actually better than Ford's in some aspects huh? Anyway, Zeibart is offering us rustproofing for the whole underchassis, plus the inside panels of the doors so hopefully their service can address that, plus we're a bit far from the sea so salt water won't be a problem. But of course it's still better to be prepared, right?

Hi Geralilo, hows the cool bear selling in Manila?

geralilio
05-16-2010, 10:31 PM
Hello Sharkee,

It's doing great! We've already sold out the first batch of M/T and A/T Coolbears. Second batch has landed at the container ports, and we're just awaiting release from customs here in the Philippines.

We recently brought a modified Coolbear to a carshow in Fontana, a resort in Clark, Pampanga, and car enthusiasts were already lining up to get their own units. They're looking to modify the Coolbear by adding rims, speakers, multimedia systems, etc.

All I can say is that Filipinos, particularly here in Luzon, are giving the Coolbear a really, really warm reception! :D

Hi geralilio, are you still working for Great wall? I was able to see the Hover H3 in the recent autoshow... is it the improve version of the Hover from last year? I was able to notice the new engine and new interior. But how about the exterior features? Any issues with parts?

geralilio
04-11-2011, 11:52 PM
hi Sharkee, yep, the Hover H3 that was present during the MIAS now has a more powerful 2.5L TCI engine producing 107hp and 300Nm. It also features a much improved interior, with dvd players, steering wheel controls, bluetooth function, back-up camera, and more legible instrument panel.

no problem with parts as these units are now locally assembled at our plant in Las Pinas.

Which model of the Wingle is available in the Philippines?

Is it the A3 Wingle: http://www.statemotor.com.ph/gwm/wingle.php

or is it the A5 Wingle: http://www.gwcars.ph/#w5

They are both Philippine web sites...
