Does someone have any specs ?

To be launched July 15th, appears to use the Mazda 6 2.3L 120KW 240Nm engine 5 speed Auto box, ABS, EBD, TCS, DSC, Euro NCAP 5 star (does that mean it has 5 stars?) front and side airbags (6 total) but may not be a Hongqi since they are planning to use a different brand name for their bigger luxury cars.

Thats all I can make out for now.

The C301 is designed by Giuseppe Giugiaro. Any resemblance with the Chevrolet you showed is certainly possible when this car is also designed by Giugiaro, or when Giugiaro is inspired by this car, or when Giugiaro and the Chevrolet designer are inspired by the same -third- car.
In modern design world there is a lot of inspiration from each other.
The C301 is for 80% Mazda 6 (platform and engine), only the body is specific Chinese.

Another question, is there already someone with pictures of the C601? Based on the old Audi platform.

To me, some portions of the HongQi, such as the steering wheel, the door handle, the door trim, the center dash, and the seats, make it look cheaper than the Mazda and some design elements of the Mazda such as the lines of the door and the materials that do not work in a more upscale design.

It costs in China around US $ 20,000 for a 2.0 engine (mazada 6).

That's very close to what a Mazda6 sells for in the US.

This car is the first more than decent looking chinese car I've seen!
From the outside, It looks more Nissan Altima or Maxima, but It's
almost beautiful! I don't care if the interior is counterfeit BMW, i

I dont mind the looks of this but they appear to be having some quality issues with the interior. I cant understand why QC people cant do their job properly as some of the faults (like the creases in the steering wheel) should have been rejected before they got anywhere near a vehicle.

Besturn 6MT Won Fuel Saving Champion.

FAW's Besturn 6MT eventually won the champion at 2007 China Auto Green Technology Summit. The 6 speed manual transmission 2.0L Besturn run on the match achieved excellent result of average fuel consumption of 3.98L /100km. All the cars for the match were evaluated by the way of Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Beijing. Besturn 6MT's fuel consumption was measured at 4.87L/100km, 3.55L/100km, 3.92L/100km and 3.59L/100km in the above-said four cities.

Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE) and China Automotive Technology & Research Center sponsored 2007 China Auto Green Technology Summit that aimed to promote the themes of "Environmental friendly, Energy efficiency and Green product". As the vital important challenge of fuel saving, the match attracted many famous automotive brands such as FAW Besturn BMW and Brilliance to join in.

For the time being, most Chinese customers are still driving cars with 4 or 5 speed manual transmission. FAW takes the lead in equipping 6 speed manual transmission on its Besturn, which sets optimum gear ratios of 3.454 at 1st speed, 2.059 at 2nd speed, 1.310 at 3rd speed, 0.970 at 4th speed, 0.795 at 5th speed and 0.680 at 6th speed. Power output from FAW Bestburn's engine transfers extraordinary well through the perfect matched 6 speed manual transmission. It is reported the fuel for each car equipped with 6 speed manual transmission in Europe and America can be saved 3 percent to 7 percent. Thus Besturn 6MT should have a splendid future in China. Now FAW has sold nearly 2,500 Besturn 6MT cars since they launched on the market on Nov. 18, 2007.

I see more of these on the road and they look much better than they are in the photos. Why does that happen. I was in Australia recently and their Commodore is the same. It looks much better than in photos.

@ chinamonty: Yes, the car stands on first generation Mazda6 platform. I think both cars share some other parts also (what is especially noticable if you look at the interior of Besturn).

First Automobile Works unveiled its new Benteng (Galloping forward) at the Hangzhou Auto Show.

The independently developed Benteng is the first member of a new generation of Hongqi models. It is based on the Mazda6, manufactured in China by the FAW-Mazda joint venture.

April 14, 2008 - The first Chinese-developed luxury own-brand FAW Besturn was released in Beijing on April 12. The full-hybrid "Beijing Olympic Model Car" - Besturn B70HEV - was unveiled while other models of the FAW Besturn brand were named at the Besturn launch ceremony. The long-awaited "Small Besturn" - Besturn B50 - was also released at the event.

The first home-made Besturn, based on the Mazda6, is manufactured by the FAW-Mazda joint venture in China. The Besturn B70HEV unveiled this time is a full hybrid model to be used as the "Beijing Olympic Model Car" for services in the Summer Games under the theme "Green Olympics, Technological Besturn."

FAW's hybrid electric Besturn B70HEV model features the adequate energy conversion equipment (like a diesel engine), energy storage device and power motor as its hybrid power plant. As an energy-efficiency and eco-friendly model, the Besturn B70HEV is equipped with an engine capable of 6.0L/100km, able to save fuel by 42.8% compared to other automatic-transmission sedans of the same kind.

The launch of these FAW Besturn models marks another milestone in FAW's brand expansion and market growth after its Besturn brand has managed over the past few months to find its footing in the luxury sedan market and break the technical barriers of luxury vehicles. The new FAW Besturn series is seen as the "best turn" for the brand to start a new generation of car-making.

FAW will release more details on the car at the Beijing show this month. In the meantime, company officials have announced plans to invest $300 million in a new production facility to build the Besturn models in 2009.

FAW has to cut cost before launching Besturn hybrid.

May 12, 2008 - China's FAW unveils plans to launch its Besturn B70HEV before the end of 2009, but the automaker said it has to dramatically cut costs before putting the model into volume production.

The Changchun-based automaker said the B70HEV is the first strong hybrid model developed by a Chinese automaker and it has taken the automaker 16 months to make it.

"Though it delivers super performance, the B70HEV carries a cost that is triple the base Besturn model," claimed Zhao Ziliang, senior engineer of Electric Vehicle Project Team of FAW.

Zhao said the high cost is the main barrier to accelerated development of hybrid-electric vehicle technology in China. There are also other obstacles including the lack of qualified hybrid parts manufacturers in China, poor consumer understanding about hybrids, lack of policies and so on.

However, with the fuel price hike and the fact that China may stop levying taxes on hybrid-powered vehicles, the market for this type of new energy vehicles is promising, auto industry insider says.

The cost is only cut for hybrid electric model because of high cost of the new technology, the base model cost is not cut I think.

FAW first started their Besturn brand in mid 2007 but obviously didnt think the whole plan through from the start. They had free use of the excellent last generation Mazda6 platform and engines, they hired an Italian designer to do the car, but their branding department really let them down with the name Besturn which could be either Bes Turn or the rather more ghoulish Best Urn. It seems that the Besturn brand has been quietly dropped and replaced with Hong Qi branding on certain models, the Chinese name 奔腾 (Ben Tung) has stayed however.

A facelifted Besturn B70 was spotted out testing recently with the most awesome camoflauge we have ever seen from a Chinese car company. The B70 has had a minor facelift to the front end, especially around the lights. The interior has also been changed from a dark leather to rice colored leather. Apparently FAW are planning to offer more for less with this car and will increase the no of options for the base price without raising pricing. FAW are currently selling around 4000 B70’s per month, which is unusual for a self developed brand in China, only Roewe has figures that are comparable.
