my hover have 12 sek form 0-100 km/h and it goes 180 km/h
fuel consuption is between 12 liters,mix...city,highway and off road..in my free time

2.8 tdi...only 95 hp! this engine is old gw28d engine,just have turbo and bosch supply i think that it's low for hover...for pick up maybe...i have information that company building new 2.0 common rail engine..which will be base engine in all models

I honestly think they should engineer the Hover into a SUT. Izuzu did a concept of an AXIOM SUT concept in 2002. Since the Hover is heavily based onto the Axiom an SUT would be good. Heres some pictures...

on the GWM-homepage i´ve read a team will crossing countries around the world to promote the CUV Hover.
They`ll also staying in Germany. Does anyone know the schedule, especially the date and location for the presentation in Germany?

Great Wall is too progressive to stay with the Hover for very long. Yes, it has lots of style, but in addition to it's outdated frame, a recent article about "Design flaws" cite its (Axiom donor's) restricted rear door ingress/egress for larger bodied passengers.

I hope GW comes up with some original body/frame combinations to go well with its innovative Intec diesel engine series.

When I visited the GWM dealer in Shanghai two weeks ago, I saw a Hover with a 2.8l turbo diesel (Bosch turbo charger). The dealer couldn't disclose any details on the engine, he said it would be the first in China.

Great Wall is no stranger to diesels, as seen in the recent introduction of the self developed INTEC common rail diesel in the Wingle pickup.
Its Internal Combustion Engine division company produces diesels for BAW, JAC, Golden Dragon and others.
Perhaps its neighbors in Baoding, Zhongxing, Tianma, and Dadi also use its diesel engines.
Now that these companies are competing intenationally, the old cloned Toyota 4Y, four cylinder gasoline engine, the 491QE, will just not get the job done anymore.

personaly i think that engine needs more power,only 94 ps for 1900 kg from hover?? that engine will go for sure for about 300000 miles,but i think that it's too slow,i never drive it yet..i will try now when i go in china,for pick up...also,i think that they both shoud have at least 100 kw like some other companies,toyota,mazda,nissan (174 ps from navara),also only euro 3 emmison??? here in europe you can't sell diesel with euro 3 engine,you can in countires which are not part of european union,but in 2007 and 2008 also it woun't be availbe

they can put VM engine from italy,it's euro 4,other companies also have it (jeep,hyundai) and have 100-110 kw,for chinese market this engine will be ok,also for middle east,but for european...i don't know,maybe for "old school" drivers and fan of diesel engines

no problem,you must see the engine from close look,it's very small,it that space what hover have you can put there at least v6 engine,and when you see this you ask yourself that little engine can drive that car???

but the company is very proud at that engine,becuse as i know...many little chinese manifactures have diesel engines with common rail and euro 3 emission,of course it's a big step forward for them,but we must be raelistic,with that techologie what they have...i think that they can do better engine than that with more kw,and at least euro 4...in europe already start euro 5 law!

my opinion: without adequate diesel engine (common rail, Euro 4 norm, at least 100kW) has GWM Hover only very little chance to sales success in EU countries.
Big gasoline engines are only for U.S. market interesting.

in germany,france,spain...people will use the model with lpg,like italians,already 500 models of hover

also here in croatia,serbia,bosnia...just tell that you have vehicle on lpg!
ok..bosnians prefer diesels because of old mercedes benz 200 d and 240 d which you have in bosnia maybe more than in germany!
in croatia and serbia it's a LPG boom,because of high prices of gasoline,all manifactures already offer their vehicles on lpg,seat,fiat,skoda,mitsubishi,hyundai...with warranty

The Hover has been cleared by the 3CV, the Chilean Government agency wich certifies the safety and emission regulations in Chile.

The tested models were the 2.4 petrol engine, with manual transmission and 4x2 - 4x4 versions. The Hover passed the Euro III standard with the following emission figures:

What a disappointment!

I would have thought CCTV would have rewarded a manufacturer of a self-developed model like those produced by Chang'an, Hafei, etc.. These brave companies deserve recognition for their willingness to break away from the pack, and risk failure (like good capitalists are supposed to do).

After all the Hover is nothing but a warmed over Isuzu Axiom/Toyota 4Runner clone. The name "Safe" fits it best.

I drive a 2005 gw sailor, gas engine. the carnage at the pumps had turned my interest to the same model in diesel. however the brand new thing was so loud and annoying that i chose the gas version. is this new engine any quieter than the 2.8D that is present inthe 2005 sailor & Deer p/ups.

As far as I concern you have to evaluate an engine capacity by the torque, and the Turbo Diesel Hover have a pretty good torque about 220 N.m at 1800-2200 RPM, so I think it would not be the fastest car but the car would move very well with this engine.:thumb:

i was pretty intrested in that how that engine doing because of 95 hp but i can tell all of you one thing, that engine goes just fine,i was impressed,you know...95hp??? man ask yourself,but when i drive it it goes a little bit slower than mitsubishi engine, i drive it the most 165 km/h, with gasoline my hover goes 185 km/h,but the most acceptable speed for diesel it between 140-150, you have a truck feeling, also the car when you hit the pedal stick you to the seat with only 95 hp!!! this hover don't have 4x4 stick, he had electric swich, very simple to use it

You just hit the point, but not all cars can pass the C-NCAP, we can just look at the C-NCAP crash test table for Fiat, Chery, Geely...

Yeah, turbo diesel engines are different. I don't have enough experience with these engines, but I know they make huge amounts of torque which moves the car nicely.

i have a hover with diesel engine, car have 95 ps and goes good, max.speed is 150 km/h, i don't want to drive it faster because car in completly new, also car isn't very noisy, car have instead a stick for 4x4, a new electric swich, works wery easily, also it's a super luxury version and have the front heaters

Dude, but where you has taken the program for "dastek chip" ?

they made it for you car, they take down the original ECU and make a copy of it...then they install a new parameters for machine and do the testing od dynometer (equipment which measuring the power of engine),also they regulate the overheating of engine(cooling sistem)

Hover was the best selling SUV in China in 2007!

The Chinese government group, the National Association of Passenger Manufacturers, released a report yesterday saying that 375,000 SUVs were sold in China, of which the Great Wall Hover, and Chery Tiggo were the best selling models.

Top sellers:

1. Great Wall Hover - 55,752 cars sold
2. Chery Tiggo - 50,098
3. Honda CRV - 45,686
4. Hyundai Tuscon - 44,729
5. Zotye 2008 - 31,577

The real surprise in that list is, most of the manufacturers are domestic models, and the Zotye, a relatively small player in the Chinese market place has reached sales of 31,577. Good work!

i think that soon will be avalible for other markets

this i now i can say ok, much better instead of 70 kw,so when i get it...i will try to chip it also, i think that i can get at least 100 kw,if is this engine avalible in hover i think that company will put it also in wingle

April 25, 2008 - The Great Wall Auto debuted its 2008 new Hover at Beijing auto show. Hover, a China-made world-class vehicle model, has won the championship of SUV unit sales for years.

Boasting all good features of Hover CUV's chassis, structure, performance and safety, the 2008 new Hover is largely improved in the engine, control, safety and comfort through extensive upgrading from the existing model.

The new Hover is powered by the GW2.5TCI diesel engine of German Bosch high-pressure common rail technology with maximum output at 80KW, and maximum torque at 300NM. With On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) added, the emissions meet the Euro Ⅲ standard and the top speed can reach 150km/h.

The new Hover is also equipped with Traction Control System (TCS) to avoid the wheel slip in the emergency braking and can increase the driving stability and safety.

A "crossover" ?
No, I don't think that this full frame vehicle can be classified as a crossover, Gasgoo.
As Micodelija so superbly illustrates in pictures, this is a rugged vehicle capable of competing with the best of off-road vehicles.
Crossovers are fragile unibody vehicles which rarely venture beyond the paved road.
Maybe the CUV stands for Cannonball Utility Vehicle.

Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd., a SUV expert in North China's Hebei Province, has just launched its new Hover Pi, a limousine version of CRV model Hover.

The new car is 6.9 meters long, 0.2 meters longer than the old version, and has a seating capacity of eight to nine people. It is sold at 298,000 yuan. It has new and advanced interior decorations like a S-shape cut in the ceiling and two separate bar counters as well as starring partition and shining floor.

Being the first Chinese limousine car model, Hover Pi saw sales of 247 units in 2007 and has been exported to Japan, South Korea, France, Italy, Russia, South Africa, etc.

The Chinese limousine market is now occupied by foreign brands like Lincoln, Rolls-Royce and Cadillac. The entry of Hover Pi offers customers one more option with lower price. The sound aftersales service network of the Hebei-based company makes the car model more competitive.

Shanghai, August 27 (Gasgoo.com) Great Wall Motor said the diesel edition of Great Wall Hover gained sales increase by 32% year on year in July, a reversal from the straight drop in the first half as diesel supply shortage gradually eased up, xinhua.net reported today.

The Hover diesel model, the best-selling SUV in Chinese market, suffered sales loss due to diesel supply shortage in some areas for the first six months this year. Though Great Wall Motor tried to launch better diesel models, the negative consequence brought by diesel shortage didn’t change, sources said.

As diesel supply has recovered to normal and Hover July sales grew, sales slump for the first half will not be repeated, Great Wall market executive said.

Great Wall Motor rolled out its diesel-powered Hover in 2006, which gained significant market share after going on sale. In 2007, The Hover diesel edition saw sales grow by 9% year on year, taking 50% of the mid-level SUV market in China.

Great Wall Motor further launched two Hover models this year: a 2.8TCI Hover diesel car with better performance and a 2.5 TCI diesel Hover which has met the nation’s latest emission standards.

Great Wall Motor recalls 17,916 Hover CUVs

November 25, 2008 - Great Wall Motor, China's greatest maker of SUVs and pickups, has decided to recall 17,916 Hover CUVs (crossover utility vehicles) starting November 25 to fix the defects of their steering gears, said xinhuanet.com today. These vehicles were made by Great Wall Motor between April 1, 2005 and July 28, 2006.

According to the recall report submitted by Great Wall Motor to China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), some of these Hover CUVs made during that period have oil leakage from their steering gears and oil blockage in the left cavity, which leads to abnormal oil pressure of the power booster and difficult steering for bend turning. This may cause safety hazards when the vehicle is taking the corners.

Great Wall Motor has promised to check and replace the steering gears of all the recalled Hover CUVs for free to remove any possible safety hazards. The company will ask its Hover CUV customers to deliver their cars to the nearby repair shops of Great Wall Motor for the steering gear replacement.

Great Wall Hover CUV customers can also call the hotline of the quality watchdog GAQSIQ or visit its website for more information on the Hover CUV recall.

The Great Wall Hover CUV is sold in several countries. It was the first Chinese car to be exported in large quantities to Western Europe in 2006, when 30,000 Hovers were shipped to Italy. The Hover CUVs are also widely used by China's public facilities for highway and electricity supervisions.

This is welcome news, and an indication of some small steps toward maturity of the Chinese auto industry. But the words,
"Great Wall Motor.....has decided to recall...."
tell us that the customers themselves had no input to GAQSIQ about this steering safety problem. If they did, then it would have been GAQSIQ itself that initiated the recall. In other words the customer is still at the mercy of a system which is still primarily sales oriented.

Yes, the customers can call GAQSIQ at 010-59799616、65537365. But there doesn't appear to be any information on the Great Wall website that would help the customer get this recall repair. In fact a category of the website devoted especially to the "owner", wasn't seen.

The Great Wall Hover CUV is sold in several countries.
How will these folks be notified?

There's no doubt about it, after sales follow up is an awesome responsibility for a global manufacturer, but it's all part of the game.

30000 hover was never imported to italy :nono: , between 1500 vehicles was exported there

during 2007 year we didn't have any problem with our vehicles,only one test vehicle had that problem but the sterring whell was only bouncing (that orange hover from photos), there was no problem with steering, but anyway great wall send to us all new modified sterring sistem and we replace it to all the vehicles which we sold here :thumb: :thumb:

as i speak with russians also, they had couple of vehicles with that problems and replace all parts
italians also didn't have any problems with this issue

I love the GWM Hover...but...I'm in Argentina and it will never come here =(

GWM for now sell is alll of bigger countries of south america like bolivia,brazil,chile,colombia,peru,paraguay,urugua y, venezuela etc...so i am sure that they will enter that market as well, if nobody import them if you have money and good will you can start with that :thumb:

The problem is this: The Goverment have a high tax for all new cars, it's around the 40%...for example, a Chery Tiggo in Chile costs 12.000 Dls and here...it's costs 20.000 Dls... =S

the same is in croatia, when you pay transport, taxes....hover cost here with 4x4 and full eqipment between 25000 euros, and in china cost 15000 USD with full equipment...but anyway...it's cheaper than hyudai, kia or mitsubishi, which cost from 33000 euros

In Cape Verde the Hover is taxed as a luxury auto and it pays even more
45% of auto import tax + 15% vat, and this prices are upon the car and transport as well!:mad:

Probably this week i will get my Hover. Anyway I've still many questions about gwm, and unfortunately italian press is not correct because of the influence of fiat.

I hope Micodelija can help about some questions. The first in that GWM Hover is sold only for 4 passenger and not five because omologated as 'autocarro' (pick up). Someone says that this is because GWM has not passed safety test. Is it real?:confused:

Another question for Micodelija: are you a dealer of GWM or you are the official importer as Eurasia in Italy? Thanks a lot also for you wonderful work on you tube.:thumb:

Last week i tried also GWM Steed (Wingle); very good pick up truck. In italy prices for Steed are 16,000 € for 4x2 and 18,500 for 4x4 super luxury (with leather inside and gpl). This pick up is much better tha Gonow Tata and Mahindra ones!!!

i am official importer for Croatia, we work diretcly with GWM because, people from Eurasia are our good friends, we usually talk and share our expiricances with the vehicles, for now we didn't have any bigger problems and I can say all best for them, they are very proffesional

for that what you ask, hover is 100% safe car, the press usually write that what you pay that so I don't trust them very much,I don't have any big contact with press, my policy is...give the car to the customers and let they jugde them, you can see also on my youtube site all videos from crash test,also couple of my friends and me also have some accident with hover and nobody have any bigger injuries,you can see also on those photos up...nobody is hurt from that accident, what more do you need to see that car is safe? :thumb: hover is homolgated as autocarro because those engies 4g64 are euro 3 standard with OBD, in croatia is also homologated as N1 vehicle, but we solve homologation for 5 person, here also nobody take care for it, one time I drive 7 person in hover :D,most important that engine is good, i have 85000 km with him...no problems, also on LPG

there was some problems with safety,but not for driver, for other persons in traffic, if you hit a person on the road, it's called pedesetriran test, but if you hit somebody with that car on the road what that person can expect??? Hover have 1900 kg and he must be happy if he is alive :D

my wingle have 60000 km without any problems, but i have first diesel engines, 2.8 tc, car is 200% better than mahindra or gonow, simply if more modern, have better safety, design is moder, driving skills are better, have abs + ebd, double airbags..., i am 100% sure that wingle will have very good selling results

for that DVD in hover is very nice, we drive one time in china and look our movie in car :thumb:

I live in city of Varaždin,it's 70 km from Zagreb, usually it's called little wien :), for that homologation maybe you can ask directly in euroasia,there is lot of person in charge for homologation, i know some directors from financial departments and general managers, try to send them the email or simply go to them, maybe you have 2 hours from udine

i think that you shoud't worry about that, i doubt that police will bother you because of that, very often I also travel in many european countries with my car and don't have any problems with it, very soon hover will have homologation as M1, they have install the new engine and also most of new certificates are already verified from british VCA

How many GWM have you imported in the last years in Croazia? You sell only Hover and Steed, or also some othe GWM car as Peri or Coolbear?

What about importing GWM in Slovenia?

some companies try to import GWM to slovenia, but all of them failed, problem is that hover as commercial vehicle can't pass at slovenian market, here in croatia we don't have those problems, but we are still on hold because of euro 4 engine, we import only 15 units ot croatia, most of other cars we sold in bosnia, there we also sold models like safe, deer (old toyota based models) and new hover diesel and steed diesel, itlay have very good homolgation regulatives, so you can arrange to import your vehicles with MOT (ministry of transport) certificate, while in our countries you can't do that, you need TUV, VCA, KWB or some other documents which are normal in EU,also croatia don't have car production so you can't agree with homolgation istitute

we also try to import peri but company suggested us that we don't do that because that low suit from fiat which is still in progress, for new models it's a chance to get a new passenger car florid, also we are expecting hover and steed with 2.5 tci diesel engines, which people in bosnia like, for croatia we want to offer new hover with 4g69 engine, have a liitle bit more power and couple of changes outside

i see ...it's not good that such a wonderful car as Hover have all these troubles...anyway i'm sure that soon GWM will become important in Europe too, just as happened for Hyundai 10 years ago.

I tried also to drive Shuanghuan CEO: a disaster ..it seems to me as driving an old commercial vehicle as fiat ducato o volswagen, but from 1990!! Hover is much better...the sensation is more similar to Captiva...

i think that gonow is more expensive because they are putting the engines in italy, when I talk with distributor in bosnia he told me that cars came in EU without engine and then importer install old fiat engine, personaly i don't like gonow so much, i wish them all best

we just sold last week one white hover, also on leasing :thumb: , it's very easy to make small photo, you can use imageshack.us and put here a thumberlain...so we can see it when we open it, or if you have installed microsoft office and picture manager, by my opinion the best program to change the dimensions of your photos :thumb:

It's a miracle that no one was seriously hurt here. Looks like GWM needs to work on improving the B and A pillar strength, boosting the vehicle's strength to weight ratio overall.

this damage happend because they hit into a tree, that's the reason why the car is smahed at side so much, anyway..this gentleman will very soon buy from us a new hover :)

hello costy...roman sadea...i'm one of the few romanians which they own an hover. mine is white and i have it since november 2007...what is good for me is that the periodic checks are done by the nippon car center in constanta...just hundreds of meters away from my home.last winter i've been helping(towing) a lot of unhapy antara and tucson owners out of the snow..realy does the job. for mico...can u tell me what rims can i put to have installed goodrich tires? thanks for the inputs and check out for news! and another thing...what's the price for florid? hear from u guys soon!

for BFG tires it's a best to install it on 16 inch rim, all depends what dimension you want to put, you can install on 17 inch rim also but those BFG tires are very expensive, you can try also COOPER tires, discoverer model, they are really good

Была у меня волга 029 - по подвеске аналогичная уазу - шкворни и рессоры. А теперь СУВ китайский (подвеска ховра). Где я раньше на волге на 2ой гонял, теперь ползу на первой - задница прыгает, как мяч. Боюсь поотрывать все. А так машина нормальная. Китаец свое отрабатывает. Но ховру до того же кайрона далеко. Подвеска передняя для внедорожника явно хлипкая. Задняя тоже.

The Lada Niva is an icon, but for the same money you could buy a Suzuki Jimny in The Netherlands. The SsangYong Korando, in fact the same car as the Tagaz Tager, was in my opinion too expensive in The Netherlands. The UAZ Patriot/Simbir is an old design (1997 according to the German Wiki page (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uljanowski_Awtomobilny_Sawod).

It's definitely not roomier than UAZ :) (UAZ is WAY bigger). But it's better - pertrol consuption is less and it's more comfortable on the good road. Right choice. I'd buy SsangYong Kyron, but it's too expensive. So I drive GWM Safe. Old, cheap, but 4runner #130 classic never dies :D

great wall produce some older models of hover with automatic transmission, but only few of them, also they all was 4x2 because the gearbox don't fit on 4x4 models, i see some models of h5 with automatic transmission, but they are not in production yet

Hi Msharm, my Great Wall Hover is now 18 months old and has 96500 km!! It's still a very beautiful, comfortable and safe. My hover is a gasoline 2.4 with LPG system, noble grey colour, beige leather inside, with dvd and sport kit. The 4x4 system is really great because nothing can stop hover in the snow or in the mud.

During all this time i've never had any trobule with my car :thumb:

simply don't listen to those people, i think that they don't have any information about gwm company, simply you can check the quality of producing this cars on offical website, also hover is best selling suv in china, i think that so many chinese people aren't dumb to buy a car which isn't a good quality, also hover is more and more popular in russia, south africa, south america, australia, italy....everywhere you go you will find some satisfied customers of this car

Hi, I'm interested protections plastic wings and a windbreak for the front and rear windows. I know that there is a bumper protection at the back door compartment.
Also look for the new logo with Hover. To the front grille and rear (smaller).
Do not forget - my rear wiper was stolen back and put one of the other car.

I own a hover diesel 2.8 TCI 2009, bougth it in Costa Rica brand new for $29000 US. I like the car, in general, but little details here and there, only 30000 km and already need to change front brake pads, same with suspension

no problem,you must see the engine from close look,it's very small,it that space what hover have you can put there at least v6 engine,and when you see this you ask yourself that little engine can drive that car???

but the company is very proud at that engine,becuse as i know...many little chinese manifactures have diesel engines with common rail and euro 3 emission,of course it's a big step forward for them,but we must be raelistic,with that techologie what they have...i think that they can do better engine than that with more kw,and at least euro 4...in europe already start euro 5 law!

I live in C.R too, I have a 2006 Hover (2.4 L gasoline) and no problems at all so far (41.000km).
In my case, some times I can smell the gas from the "catalytic converter" but it happens when I go slow and the wind blows the smell to the front of the car, especilly on windy days, or when I park the car in the garage, its funny because sometimes smell like "burn powder" and other like rotten eggs.

I think the strong smell from the catalytic converter decreases over time.

Thank you for the good feedback about your Hover performance.

There may be a few reasons for the smell condition, which is caused when H2SO3
or H2SO4 is being produced in the catalytic converter, and then emitted from the tailpipe:

Fuel available in your location has an especially high sulfur content (as it does in China).

The Hover is running too rich at the time you notice the odor.

This in turn has a variety of causes:
For example, the Oxygen sensor is not functioning properly, to control a good fuel/air mixture. The engine light should alert you to this.
Or, the intake air flow is restricted. There are other causes as well, that your mechanic can explain.

Be aware that a rich condition, over time, can cause the substrate of the catalytic convertor to disintegrate and block the exhaust flow.
