RunPard (Lanbao) SUV

New (sub)brand and SUV from Guangzhou Auto. Not much info is available at the moment. It appears to be a product of the GAC-ZXAuto partnership which makes the GX3. This vehicle is probably based on the CP2 platform (Acuman) acquired by ZXAuto from GAC Changfeng a few years ago. Length is 4.4 m.

Hi dmitra. I moved the thread to Zhongxing forum.
I have impression Run Pard will eventually one day replace Zhongxing brand completely.

RunPard (Lanbao) SUV

That's OK, Martin.

Yes, Run Pard might supplant Zhongxing someday was something mentioned in a couple of articles, but I suppose that is for the passenger vehicle segment only which is linked to GAC - I think pickups will stay with Zhongxing due to the brand equity and familiarity in domestic and export markets.

Lan Bao (Run Pard) - new GAC brand

"The Guangzhou Auto conglomerate is going to launch a new car brand for the Chinese market, the brand will debut on the Beijing Auto Show in April. The English name is ‘Run Pard’, the Chinese name is ‘Lan Bao’ (岚豹), best translated as ‘Mist Leopard’. Mist as in ‘a misty day’. The English slogan is catchy; “Through the mist&wind His speed as cheetahs”, adding too to the endless confusion about whether a leopard = a cheetah or not. In Chinese the character 豹 usually covers both.

A design drawing showing Run Pard’s first car, which will debut on the Beijing show as a concept. The license plate reads ‘ZX Auto’, which stands for Zhongxing Auto, an existing brand fully owned by Guangzhou Auto.

As the plan stands now the new Run Pard brand will merge with the passenger car operations of the exiting Zhongxing brand, initially both names will be used next to each other, but eventually it will be Run Pard only. The Zhongxing name will continue on commercial vehicles such as pickup trucks and minivans."

Re: RunPard (Lanbao) SUV

Thanks for the clarification Alex.
As for Zhongxing, my understanding is that it still retains its independence. That is, the GAC-ZX joint venture is a 40-60 share arrangement, set up back in 2013.

The giant GAC Auto has arrangements with three domestic makers now. Its joint venture with Gonow Auto, established in 2010, is a 51-49 share arrangement. On the other hand, Changfeng Auto, from which the CP2 platform came, was fully acquired by it in 2012.

Zhongxing, once partly owned by Brilliance Auto, has traditionally been an SUV and pickup manufacturer, and so when the sedan is finally introduced, it will be the fulfillment of a long standing dream for the company.

RunPard (Lanbao) brand controversy

Subsequent to the media exposure about the RunPard brand, other articles have appeared speculating on the origins of the brand. In an interesting turn of events, GAC has denied any association with the new brand, implying that RunPard was a brand registered by and belonging to Zhongxing Auto only. When reporters, who had apparently gotten hold of "official" publicity material, confronted PR at GAC-ZXAuto (the 60-40 partnership), it was communicated to them that RunPard was actually a brand of Zhongxing but that the investment, technological input, and production related to RunPard would be centered on GAC-ZXAuto in Yichang. Armed with this info, reporters tried to confirm the same with GAC, but GAC reiterated that neither GAC nor GAC-ZXAuto had anything to do with RunPard.

The RunPard story has for the moment, without even starting, come to an end. In order to better utilize the capacity, GAC will reconfigure the Yichang plant to manufacture Trumpchi vehicles. Gonow's Hangzhou factory, similarly, is becoming a Trumpchi unit as well.

Re: RunPard (Lanbao) SUV

GAC is overshadowing its affilates.
First Gonow, then Zhongxing........, will Liebao (GAC-Changfeng) be next.

Leopaard is no longer affiliated with GAC.

Anhui Liebao Auto (3 branches: Chuzhou, Yongzhou, and Jingmen U/C)
owned by
Hunan Liebao Auto
owned by
Changfeng Group Co.
owned by

So GAC sold Leopaard to Hunan? Is that a government?
