SOL (Sihao) e-vehicle
JAC-VW's first vehicle appears in MIIT's latest notice badged as "SOL", the joint venture's new brand. The Chinese name is Sihao (思皓). A new logo is seen as well. However, this Refine S2-based model's name is indistinct and cannot be discerned from the image.

Re: Volkswagen & JAC EV cooperation (SOL)
This is just a rebadged JAC IEV7S. I cannot imagine that this is the result of a new fruitful cooperation.

SOL (Sihao) E·20X
The model, according to MIIT, will be called E·20X; range is published as 302 km, up from 280 km for the JAC iEV7S. A 41 kWh battery pack is provided (iEV7S: 39 kWh)

Re: SOL (Sihao) E20X
Echoing Erik's viewpoint, I fail to see the point of the SOL E20X. If all you have to do is replicate a local car that is already selling in the market, why go for a joint venture with a foreign company if you do not get access to that foreign company's superior product or tech? If JAC wanted to sell a slightly revised IEV6S/IEV7S, it could have done so by its own means -- why need VW? On the other side, it is not like VW was in dire straits in China and desperately needed a hot-selling model in its lineup to shore up revenues and profits; the VAG group sold 4 million cars in China last year, and the iEV7S (or even the Refine S2 for that matter) is hardly among bestsellers. It is also not like JAC did not have a clue about electric vehicles and VW was generously handing down some wondrous fairy-land "electric mobility" tech down to its new partner.
I guess only future SOL models will tell where this partnership is going. |
Re: SOL (Sihao) E20X
A JV with a questionable objective indeed.
It sharply contrasts with the BYD-DAIMLER JV, to build the Denza, a dedicated effort to combine technology, and manpower. Unfortunately the Denza has not done well, and I expect this iEV7S copy will do even less well. |

From what others have written or I have read/seen VW wanted SEAT to be JAC's partner but the Chinese government said No. Seeing as this is a New Energy Vehicle I take it Volkswagen, was only allowed a New Energy Vehicle passenger brand only. Quote:
From my experience with JAC from Auto China 2017, they still need more technical advice in final quality control. My associate and I looked at a JAC SUV at the show that was painted red and it had two shades of red on the display car at an International event. This would not work outside (Western Europe/USA/Australia) of China if they wanted to go global. The JAC man that was at the show on the other hand was very friendly and excited for the VW partnership. The model line is interesting too lots of EVs. |

Sihao E20X launched for general sale:
https://www.autohome.com.cn/news/201909/947089.html http://info.xcar.com.cn/201909/news_2042923_1.html The current version (HFC7001E1AEV5) has a range of 402 km (49.5 kWh battery), up from 302 km when first unveiled. Notable is the fact that JAC-VW has quietly dropped the "SOL" name in English, and communication only carries the Chinese name Sihao. Compared to earlier photos, the SOL badging on the rear of the car has been removed; moreover the website www.sol-auto.com.cn is now defunct. Since production began (i.e. line-off) in May 2018, a total of 1142 units of E20X have been registered of which 283 were in 2018 and 859 units were in 2019 up to July. However 830 of these 859 registrations occurred in January 2019 alone. https://www.chinacarforums.com/forum...1&d=1569652117 |
