Haval DaGou (B06)

To be named "DaGou (大狗)" or big dog based on the results of public online voting. Eight choices had been offered. Of course, there is still the chance that Haval might effect a last-minute change based on evaluation of the marketability of that name by their own sales department.

Although the term "doggedly" has always been associated with persistence, in the U.S., when referring to cars, the term "dog" was used in the pejorative....as in,
"that's a real dog"
...meaning the car was under-powered, and was lacking pep, acceleration, guts, etc..

"Top dog", on the other hand, is quite the opposite, and has a positive meaning, similar to "top gun".
Finally, "big dog" means just that, a big dog.

Initially, for a while, the astronomical part of my mind had wondered whether 'big dog' could be a reference to Canis Major, however the modern Chinese translation of the latter is da quan (大犬) or da quan zuo (大犬座), quan being another word for 'dog'. In ancient Chinese astronomy, there was no constellation of Canis Major as such, and this region of the sky was distributed among several asterisms. Notably Sirius, our 'dog star', is tianlang (天狼) or 'celestial (also heavenly, sky) wolf'.

Nonetheless, 'dog' has great significance in Chinese astrology/horology, being the 11th animal of the duodecennial zodiacal cycle, and indeed, for this purpose, dog is represented by gou (狗). Recall that 2018 coincided with the Year of the Dog in recent times. Generally, positive attributes are assigned to 狗 under this system.

The vehicle definitely has a brawny appearance resembling a bull dog. It reminds me of the iconic bull dog figure seen on the hood of Mack trucks.
Although the exterior has smooth clean lines to complement the brawny look, the interior's overly busy look, is in sharp contrast. But the unique asymmetrical display screen can stay.
