Foton Motor unveiled a new series of the MP-X MPV, the S class, in Beijing on December 24. Inspired by Toyota HiAce, the MP-X S has two wheelbase variants: 3,110mm and 2,570mm. The long-wheelbase version has a stance 5380mm long, 1920mm wide, and 2285mm high, the short-wheelbase version 4840mm, 1920mm, and 2105mm. Compared with the current, 2012 MP-X, as well as the Toyota original, the S series are noticeably wider.

The MP-X S has a unibody design and middle-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. It reportedly will get at least three engine options: a 3.0 liter of natural aspiration, a turbo-charged 3.0 liter, and an ISF 2.8 diesel engine. Details about the first two have yet to be provided. About the third, we know that it can develop up to 96kW of power at 3600rpm and 280Nm of torque at 1400-3000rpm, and is paired to a 5MT.

Targeting small businesses valuing space over comfort, the new Foton MPV is expected to have a low price range under 150,000 Yuan. Features on higher trim levels include GPS, USB, power windows, two front airbags, and air ionizer. Market launch is scheduled for late April, when the 2013 Shanghai motor show will be held.
