This chinese article confirms V3 indeed rides on Magnus(aka Son of Orient) chassis. Therefore banned in the US.

I hope this "V3 is just a Magnus Wagon and is subject to GM's seizure lawsuit upon US port arrival" fiasco teaches my Chinese friends just how hard and expensive it is to come up with an original chassis platform. Afterall, even a global giant like Toyota can afford to keep less than 10 chassis platforms.

At the same time, why is this thing so damn expensive at 150,000 yuan? That's almost $19,000. After paying for importation cost and Malcolm Bricklin and his dealer's 30% fee, you end up with a Chinese car that sells for $25,000+, totally uncompetitive.

Dealers don't make 30% on each car sold. A Honda dealer will buy an Accord from the factory for $20,000 and sell it for $20,700 to make 3% profit at most. No dealer makes 30% profit on a car.

Dealers normally make 10%. Malcolm Bricklin is promising 15% to sign up dealers. He too will take a 15% profit himself as the importer, so the distribution cost in the US is 30% + shipping and any import charges.

This jacks up Chery's price in the US and make it extremely difficult to compete. Afterall, you could buy a reasonably loaded Accord, Camry, or Sonata for Chery prices, and no one's paying Accord prices on a Chinese vehicle, whether it has leather seats or not.

Look, the US market is the most competitive market in the world where even US domestic brand's survival is not guranteed and just a handful of foreigners managed to prosper. Unless Chery comes up with an original(meaning it does not ride on Magnus or Toledo chassis) compelling product with JDPower Quality Score(100PP) of 120 or less at 20% less than Japanese prices, it cannot sell. Afterall, why should consumers even consider a Chery when there are 100 other better cars out there?

No on is stupid enough to pay 18,200 for that car. They will buy the car for 17,000 or less, and dealer only make 2-3% profit not 10% profit. You don't know sh!t about buying cars.

Well, MSRP of Chery A520 is going to be $19,000, meaning invoice is $16,150. I know for a fact that Malcolm Bricklin made a killing on all his past imports(Subaru and Yogo) so Malcolm's cut is 15%(He isn't going to give himself less than his dealers), which amounts to $2,850. Deduct waranty and importation cost, and Chery has to sell A520 to Malcolm for less than $10,000.

If Chery has a problem with this, then they can set up their own US distribution network as long as they haven't signed some kind of contract with Malcolm.
