This chinese article confirms V3 indeed rides on Magnus(aka Son of Orient) chassis. Therefore banned in the US. Only if Chery would spend $500 milion to come up with its own chassis instead of stealing another company's chassis.... |

I hope this "V3 is just a Magnus Wagon and is subject to GM's seizure lawsuit upon US port arrival" fiasco teaches my Chinese friends just how hard and expensive it is to come up with an original chassis platform. Afterall, even a global giant like Toyota can afford to keep less than 10 chassis platforms.
At the same time, why is this thing so damn expensive at 150,000 yuan? That's almost $19,000. After paying for importation cost and Malcolm Bricklin and his dealer's 30% fee, you end up with a Chinese car that sells for $25,000+, totally uncompetitive. |

This jacks up Chery's price in the US and make it extremely difficult to compete. Afterall, you could buy a reasonably loaded Accord, Camry, or Sonata for Chery prices, and no one's paying Accord prices on a Chinese vehicle, whether it has leather seats or not. Look, the US market is the most competitive market in the world where even US domestic brand's survival is not guranteed and just a handful of foreigners managed to prosper. Unless Chery comes up with an original(meaning it does not ride on Magnus or Toledo chassis) compelling product with JDPower Quality Score(100PP) of 120 or less at 20% less than Japanese prices, it cannot sell. Afterall, why should consumers even consider a Chery when there are 100 other better cars out there? |
