Cool Re: GWM international news

More Great Wall models have been announced for the Australian market with the original range of Hover, Wingle and Salior being joined by Cowry, Deer, Hover limousine and Peri. Great Wall aims to sell in the entry model markets which are currently dominated by Korean brands such as Kia and Hyundai. It is belived that Great Wall's range of pick-ups (or 'utes' as we call them in NZ and Australia) will be the main source of sales in Australia, since there is a very big market for pick-ups there which produces big money and competition from the main players: Toyota, Ford and Australian GM brand Holden. Great Wall has also tested vehicles in Australia itself.

The first Hover CUV launched in Vietnam assembling factory.
Quote:
On 10 February 2009, good news coming from Vietnam: Hover CUV launched in Nam Dinh, Vietnam. A launching ceremony was held in the assembling factory. Manager of Duc Phuong Company (partner of GWM in Vietnam) and GWM's technicians cut the ribbon at the launching ceremony.

The successful launching of Hover CUV marked a new breakthrough of GWM in Vietnam auto market. Refer to the agreement reached between GWM and Duc Phoung Company, GWM's sales target in Vietnam in 2009 is clear enough. What's more, a further expanded strategic cooperation consensus was already confirmed.

Great Wall Motor Company Limited stands out from many other Chinese independent-brand companies in corporate management. Great Wall pickup trucks have been ranked No.1 in terms of market share and sales volume for 11 years in a row in the domestic pickup market. Great Wall SUV has enjoyed the lion's share in the domestic market for consecutive 6 year. Leading China's auto exports for nine consecutive years, Great Wall vehicles are sold to 128 countries, and sales growth is robust.

Hover CUV was developed by GWM independently equipped with 2.4L 4G64 and 4G69 gasoline engine, 2.8TCI, 2.8TC as well as 2.5TCI diesel engine currently and will be equipped with 2.0L 4G63 gasoline engine in the future. Since its debut in June 2005, Hover got great achievements at home, being rewarded as "the most popular full city function model", "the most popular home SUV", "annual model among the national brands" and so on by the various domestic media. In the global market, Hover has been exported to 115 countries with stable sales growth.

The relevant principal of Duc Phuong Company said Great Wall Motor product is high quality, Hover CUV launched successfully in Vietnam boost both parties' spirit, and they have enough confidence in GWM's future in Vietnam market.

Great Wall Deer selected by the Uruguay Soriano government.
Quote:
2009-02-16 - Currently, 16 units Great Wall Deer Pick-up won a bid from Uruguay Intendencia Municipal de Soriano successfully. These pickups are used as the office vehicles. This is the second government bid that Great Wall Motor obtained following the Montevideo Police Station purchased the Gwperi.

Besides the Great Wall Deer, Mitsubishi L200, Chevrolet S10 and many other international brands were also involved in the bid. Intendencia Municipal de Soriano was attracted by the Deer ultimately against its mature technology as well as high quality.

Deer is one of the mature vehicles manufactured by GWM, which is also popular in the global market. The rear-cargo bed of Deer is protected by abrasion-resistant material. Rear cargo hurdle is also optional, allowing more convenience when loading goods. What’s more, front double wishbone type torsion bar spring independent suspension, rear variable stiffness asymmetric leaf spring-type structure suspension ensures stable operation, driving comfort and safety as well.

So far, the total Great Wall pickup population in the 128 countries and regions is up to more than 200,000 units, including in Russia, South Africa, Central and South America and so on. The Great Wall pickup has maintained the No. 1 brand in the terms of export volume and exported countries for 11 consecutive years in the China’s same line.

Uruguay is one of the important export markets of Great Wall Motor in South America. SURIL S.A. is the distributor of GWM in Uruguay. Since the cooperation established in 2006, GWM sales volume in the local market has been enhanced steadily. Mr. Benito Grande, General Manager of SURIL S.A. said, "We choose GWM instead of other brands subject to our extensive research and in-depth investigation. High quality, high P&P ratio and well established after-sales service system are the key points for the local consumers accepting GWM. We have confidence in GWM’s potential in Uruguay and we also believe GWM image will be better with our effort!"

GWM wins Libya's order for 3,300 Deer pickups

Quote:
March 18, 2009 - On March 13, Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWM) announced that it has won a big deal of 3,300 Deer pickups from the Libyan government. This is another triumph for GWM following the 4,500-unit bid from the Cuban authorities. Chengdu Evening News reported today, citing sources from GWM.

The tender for 3,300 Deer pickups valued at 200 millions yuan ($29.3 millions) was signed between GWM and the Libya Government at the end of February. According to the deal, 1,000 units of the first batch will be shipped to the Benghazi Port of Libya while the other 2,300 units are expected to deliver in June due to the rising demand from the booming domestic market.

The key model for this massive order is the Deer pickup. These vehicles will be used by the Libyan authorities, including energy, electricity, medical & health, and transportation departments, etc.

Being a leading model of GWMs classic products, the Deer pickup is famous for its advanced quality as well as outstanding functionality thanks to year-to-year technical upgrade and product innovation.

More significantly, the Deer pickup has won GWM an incredible record of ranking the No.1 in terms of sales volume in both domestic as well as international markets for eleven consecutive years since 1998.

Any more news about Great Wall down under? I know they were planning to export cars here and enter the market in Australia, which they have done, but I can't find any real sources of info. And what about it's supposedly main competitor from China, Chery down here as well? Did they cut and run like Cadillac did or have they both plans to fight on both sides of the Tasman?

Please help.

First Chinese-brand cars arrive ... and they're utes

March 27, 2009

THE first Chinese-brand vehicles to be sold in Australia will be in dealerships by mid-year when a local importer begins shipping in two workhorse utes made by Chinese carmaker Great Wall.

About 50 dealers will offer two models from the privately owned Chinese maker with starting prices under $20,000.

Independent vehicle importer Ateco Automotive expects to sell a couple of hundred a month and has spent four years working on the deal.

The models, called Wingle and Sailor in China, will bear alpha-numeric names here and are just the beginning for Chinese car imports, according to Ateco managing director Ric Hull.

Mr Hull made more than 20 trips to China to select potential suppliers and whittled the list down to Great Wall and Chery, which supplied hybrid cars for the recent Beijing Olympic Games.

"Chery was an obvious pick because they're the largest of the independents," he said. "We ended up with Great Wall because we like them, their products and how they do business."

Great Wall, based in Baoding, south of Beijing, already exports to 120 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Eastern Europe.

The Great Wall utes were originally due on sale late last year but Ateco postponed the launch after exchange rates moved against the Australian dollar.

Ateco chief Neville Crichton said China's car industry was ambitious but pragmatic.

"They want to be No 1 in the world eventually, like they are with whitegoods and televisions and every other appliance," he said. "But they're realistic about where the product should sit and how much time it could take to become a major player."

He was impressed by the pace of industrial and infrastructure development in the country.

"Every time you went back things were vastly improved -- from the roads, to the manufacturing plant and office blocks. Everything's new and immaculate," he said.

Mr Hull said crash safety issues, which sank early attempts to export Chinese vehicles to Europe, had been overcome with internal testing by the companies to international standards.

The Great Wall utes will be the first Chinese-brand vehicles ever sold in Australia, although not the first Chinese-made cars.

In recent years Volkswagen sourced some Polo small sedans from its Chinese factory for sale here on a trial basis.

Reanult and GWM have signed the agreement under which Chinese will produce Renault vehicles in its factory in Guacara, Venezuela.

Quote:
Renault and the Chinese Great Wall has signed a preliminary agreement in Venezuela for the production of various models in the facilities that Asians have in Guacara, state of Carabobo. This is to improve sales of both brands in this market.

At the moment what you will know that more than 22,000 units, while Renault and Great Wall, remember, the biggest Chinese manufacturer of private capital. Besides the French technology to provide its new partner, which could put a Great Wall in a privileged position compared to other Chinese firms. Ensures that you will create 175 direct jobs.
