What petrol/gasoline engine is used in the Geely version of the TX4?

If Geely are successful in buying Volvo then they could use the excellent Volvo D5 in the taxi....now that would be interesting.....

Eldan Ltd., a leading car rental firm in Israel, has signed an exclusive deal with Britain's taxi manufacturer LTI Vehicles Ltd. to import and market London taxi models built by China's Geely Auto, Israel's business portal Globes (online) reported today.

Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. makes the "London taxi" under license in Shanghai for markets outside the UK. LTI manufactures the taxis for the British market at its plant in Coventry.

Eldan will market the LTI's newest TX4 model of the black cab, which includes several improvements in the suspension, safety equipment, and in the passenger compartment. The taxi can carry six passengers and has an installation for a wheelchair.

The Israeli company said it is also in talks with another Chinese carmaker to import its cars. Eldan, owned by Joseph Dahan and run by CEO Dan Shavit, is Israel's second largest car rental and leasing company. The Chinese made "London taxis" will be the first directly imported cars for its fleet.

The London cab built by Geely was released to the Chinese market on June 8 this year, under a new name "Shanghai Englon TX4," with a price tag of up to 228,000 yuan ($33,820) for private, or taxi buyers. Britain's LTI looks to its Chinese venture to boost sales of the renowned London taxi.

Default Asia Cab AS4 (Thailand)

Production of the TX4 cab has restarted, this time in Thailand, under an agreement between Asia Cab Co., Ltd. of Bangkok and Shanghai Yinglun Dihua Automobile Co., Ltd. (i.e. Englon), a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Commercial Vehicles Group Co., Ltd. The cooperation agreement was signed in October 2018 and the SOP ceremony took place on November 6, 2019.

Not much is known about Asia Cab Co's antecedents. Initially, Asia Cab will operate the cabs itself and is in the process of onboarding drivers/service partners. Currently, production is by SKD method with kits/parts sent over from China.

P.S.: In a recruitment ad, Asia Cab Co. describes itself as (translated from Thai):
Quote:
Asia Cab Company Limited is a company engaged in car assembly business and operates a public taxi business and technology businesses that support public car hire activities. The company is committed to providing services that meet the needs of consumers to have the highest satisfaction by focusing on the target group that wants to be special, convenient, and safe.

Asia Cab Co., Ltd. is backed by the Charoen Aksorn Holding Group (C.A.S. Group), a printing technology, paper, rubber, and trading conglomerate, headed by Mr. Somsak Dararattanarojna who is also the Chairman of Asia Cab Co., Ltd. In 2018, Charoen Aksorn Holding Group along with two other companies (Cho Thavee Public Co., Ltd. and Eason Paint Public Co., Ltd., holding minority shares) established ALL S Holding Co., Ltd. to invest in the auto assembly and public conveyance industry by way of the "London Taxi" project. In August 2019, ALL S Holding Co., Ltd. signed an assembly contract with a long-established contract vehicle assembler, Bangchan General Assembly Co., Ltd. (BGAC). In December 2019, Eason Paint PLC increased its investment in ALL S Holding by about twofold.

It is however not clear what the relationship between ALL S Holding Co., Ltd. and Asia Cab Co., Ltd. is: whether Asia Cab Co., Ltd. is acting on behalf of ALL S Holding Co., Ltd. or has taken over the project entirely from the latter. Assembly of the AS4 cab is taking place at Bangchan Industrial Estate.
