Everyone says that Toyota is a latecomer to China but its tie-ups with Jinbei and others, e.g. Tianjin Auto, go way back to the 80s'. Many of the people responsible for Brilliance quality traveled to Japan for training.

Raul as far as light trucks go, Brilliance makes the City Cowboy SUV SY6491 and Wolfman Pickup SY1023 models both of which I believe are Nanhai Fudi-based.

Brilliance also has a presence out in Mianyang, Sichuan Province. They build engines there and also have a subsidiary called Huarai which is said to be going to produce light trucks among other "cross country" and commercial vehicles.

Thanks for the information. Actually I'm talking about Toyota Dyna clones, Brilliance SY1021, SY1030, SY1036, SY1043.

Manufacturer is "Shenyang Jinbei Vehicle Manufacturing Co.Ltd."

I can't post a direct link, but go to China Automotive Information Net -website.

http://www.autoinfo.gov.cn/en/contact.htm

Then choose "truck statistics" from the left (Classify by Product). After that you should see "China Newest Vehicle Parameter" text below the page. Click "Next Page" to go to page 2, there you see some of the Brilliance trucks.

Default Brilliance-built light trucks

Thank you Raul...there's a wealth of information at that website that I previously thought was unavailable without having a subscription password.

As for the Huarai subsidiary, a short internet search the other day didn't reveal any update on their light truck-making.

Brilliance to run Zhonghua, Jinbei brands separately

October 30, 2009
Brilliance China announced today that Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automotive Co. would sell its 51% stake in Brilliance's own-brand Zhonghua sedan operations to Brilliance Auto Group for 494 million yuan ($72.33 million), sina.com said, citing an insider.

The source said the move is part of the strategic planning of Brilliance Auto, the Chinese partner of BMW. In the future, Brilliance will have separate operations of its two brands Brilliance Zhonghua and Brilliance Jinbei, which will also have different dealership networks. This plan has reportedly got regulatory approval.

After selling its shares in the Brilliance's passenger car business, Jinbei will focus on making light buses and medium-size commercial vehicles and prepare for the R&D of heavy-duty truck products. The proceeds from the stake sale will be used for Jinbei's light bus business and the joint venture with BMW.

Brilliance China makes cars under its Zhonghua brand and builds vans, small buses and light trucks under the Jinbei brand. With new models launched, sales of its Zhonghua-branded cars and Jinbei-badged vehicles grew 28% and 21%, respectively, from a year earlier in the first nine months of this year.

Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automotive Co., once a pioneer among own brand Chinese automakers, is now losing market share in the fast growing domestic market, Automotive News said earlier this week.

Default Brilliance new plant

Brilliance Auto is setting up a new factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu, for production of two new electric vehicles. These will be 4-seat minicars about 3.3-3.6 m in length, wheelbase 2.19-2.48 m, codenamed W32H and W35H. I presume these might be somewhat similar in character to the GC1/GC2 from Zedriv.

Brilliance is investing 1.7 bn RMB in the project that will create an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. Although Brilliance's minivans (with SRM) have been pretty successful, its previous endeavor involving a minicar (Tun, an ICE car) flopped badly.
