AutosAndCars-yep, Chery is taking their time and "doing it right the first time." Makes pretty good sense, actually. Even their collaboration with Dodge in building the new Hornet subcompact is in a slow, deliberate pace to completion, almost to the point of rumours abounding that Dodge has broken their agreement with Chery and is actively shopping for another maker for the little Hornet stinger. We shall see, but for now the Chery CEO has stated a profound desire to implement necessary homogolation concerns and of course safety concerns(of huge importance!!)and their need to keep the reins pulled back on the horse so that all of this necessary work gets completed properly the first time. Sounds smart to me and the right way to do it.

All this having been said I would not expect Chery cars in the U.S. until early 2010, or months thereabouts.

A friend from Venezuela says that Chery cars are not a good choice there, since almost all of them present mechanic malfunctions. She didn't specify them though.

Default Chery's new logo

Chery unveils a new company logo.

July 4, 2008 - China's Chery Automobile unveiled its re-designed company logo at a publicity campaign on Tuesday, a Chinese newspaper reports today.

The new logo is characterized by a modern and fresh appearance with some slight changes added to the shaping of characters. This new logo is claimed to be able to better reflect the dynamics of the expanding firm, the Nanfang Daily reports.

Also at the campaign Chery held an unveiling ceremony for its new company name. On March 24, 2008, Chery Automobile got the government approval to change its name to Chery Automobile Co. Ltd.

Chery is still awaiting government approval for adding a plant of annual 200,000-unit capacity for producing fuel efficient cars. The project will boost the Chinese automaker's annual production capacity of complete cars to 850,000 units from the current 650,000 units within two years.

The plant will build a new car about the same size as the Toyota Yaris. Fitted with 1.3- and 1.5-liter engines, the Yaris-size model will have three versions: a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback and a sedan. No information on the production kick-off date was unveiled.
