Not to worry.....

This is a new concept in hybrid vehicles. It uses compressed air to supplement the gas engine. When the spoiler at the rear is pushed downward it collapses the YELLOW BELLOWS and creates a chamber of compressed air. After the pressure is spent the driver knows it because he can't see out the back window anymore, and so he gets out and pushes downward on the spoiler again.......and so it goes.

It's sure to be a big hit with the earth-friendly crowd.

So it's a compressed air hybrid. Never heard of that before. Nothing wrong with selling chinese cars in Japan. japanese cars have been selling in China for 15-20 years now.

but there is a niche market in japan for this design, some japanese like funky, toyish designs
But it's not all about only looking... According to the news, it costs about 3,000,000 Japanese Yen in china. Look.. these car will be even cheaper than this DFM's car in Japan...

http://www.honda.co.jp/auto-lineup/integra/type/index.html

Integra type R costs 2,730,000 Jp yen

http://toyota.jp/mr-s/grade/grade/index.html

MR-s V edition 2,289,000 jp yen.

Well, when I read this from korean yahoo, it said it's 10% cheaper than its class in Japan. I don't know what car they were comparing to. Perhaps, skyline(is this car RWD?)? hmm...

Anyway, what I want to say... it's not small money for japanese as well and I don't think they would expect only experior aspect....

hybrid? The news was saying the car use 2~3ltr Mitz engine... Then, I think we can't expect a good fc with this size of engine compare to other hybrid.
So, is it designed to provide the power of v8 at V6 fc or V6 at v4 fc?

But Japanese buyers are very reluctant to buy foreign cars (except luxury vehicles), Hyundai only sold 3,000 units last year. Plus, the car looks very Korean (not that thats a bad thing, though designwise, it can be) and is kind of overdone.

Yeah, it's true... and it's not only in auto industry... Samsung and LG are not doing well over there as well. Actually, they don't pay much attention to Japan as it's the toughest market to foreign comapnies. And it's quite funny while honda have become one of the favorite car maker in other countries, they are not doing well in Japan. It seems like thier brand name is not well treated as in oversea. The market in Japan is quite interesting....

Anyway, you said the car looks very korean.... Are u refering to Hyundai Coupe(http://car.donga.com/board/board.php?bbs=car_news_0901&no=2495&depth=0&page=16&s_work=view)?

The "hybrid" post is a joke guys... peeps r dense round here...

This car is too funky to sell in large numbers anywhere in the world. But given they're only shooting for 2000 a year in Japan, and with Japanese' tendency to buy weird stuff, it's not a bad idea.

Think of it this way, if you're gonna sell 2000 of a certain car in Japan, what would you sell? Yet another bland sedan or van? Something funky is the way to go.

My only question is its performance and build quality - are they up to par?

Dongfeng is out of its mind.
that's a pile of rubbish. copied the mk1 hyundai tiburon/coupe and then made it look sh*t. three sets of side repeaters, what kind of drugs they using. looks like they covered it in superglue and ram raided halfords.

Believe it or not, the car is going on sale. Next month! :w00t:

We always wondered when we say this car at the Beijing Auto Show in 2006 if they would ever release this car, and it seems that Dongfeng have reasonably high hopes for this car.
This car was designed by Dongfeng themselves and it … urm.. shows. China Car Times doesnt have any specifics on the car, other than its pretty ugly and that Dongfeng are planing on selling 2000 of the cars in the Japanese market next year. The oddest thing about the Dongfeng coupe is the boot of the car that seems to be able to raise and lower itself to give the driver more boot space should he need it.
he Dongfeng coupe comes complete with tiny 15inch wheels and odd looking indicator lights down the side of the front wings:
We cant wait for this one to hit the market this month, oh no - we put the wrong ending sentence in this blog post, no, we dont want this to hit anything other than a brick wall.
