A new Geely hatchback has been spotted out by a user of the Auto.Sohu forum, this model is quite similar in design to the Geely FC-3 model which Geely displayed at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year.

What do CCT readers think of this latest model from Geely? It appears that Geely may well use a different brand for these models, perhaps the same way Kia altered their branding for the latest Kia Borrego, in an attempt to move Geely away from the ‘cheap and cheerful’ cars and more towards a higher, more up market brand. This car is clearly a step in the right direction for Geely.

What about this unfamiliar logo we are seeing here? Has the inverted sky hook logo that was selected recently by contest, been abandoned for this one?
Otherwise this model is real progress for Geely. I even like the interior.

Yes Martin, I think I did see that article, now that you mention it.

Not having seen much of the contest logo I was beginning to wonder if they had second thoughts about going with it.

Yes Mememe, Geely is really spreading itself thin, with brands, and production locations around China, even rivaling FAW. The industry climate has now changed so drastically, we will just have to see if this is a good strategy or not.

Geely to roll out high-end Dihao models in mid-'09.

December 1, 2008 (Gasgoo.com) - Geely Auto is planning to roll out the FC-3 and FC-2, a hatchback and a sedan models of the automaker's upcoming high-end Imperial (Dihao) brand by the mid-2009, Beijing News said, citing Geely senior officials.

At the recent 2008 Guangzhou Auto Show, Geely Auto launched its small car Panda and other two new models code-named FC-2, FC-3, a hatchback and a sedan versions as the first high-end Imperial brand models. The two models will go on sale in June 2009, priced at about 100,000 yuan ($14,598), Geely senior officials said.

The FC-3 and FC-2 reportedly will be produced in Geely's Ningbo plant. The automaker has just moved its Vision production line to its facility in Xiangtan, Hunan from Ningbo. According to Geely Institute president Zhao Fuquan, a new production line is being built in the Ningbo plant for manufacturing FC-2 and FC-3, which will share the platform with Geely Vision (code-named FC-1). The two new models will be powered by Geely's latest in-house developed 1.8L double VVT JL4G18 engine.

Targeting at the American and European markets, the FC-3 has met Europe IV emission standards and other safety standards as well as the entry policy of those markets. The FC-2 has also met Euro V emission standards. FC-2 is also likely to be offered 2.0L and 2.2L diesel engines, which are still under development by Geely, Zhao disclosed.

Geely FE Series - it makes us really want a Geely.

January 15th, 2009 - Geely have come a long way since their early days of pirate Daihatsu Charades, and the FE series is clear that Geely do have the ability to design, and engineer a car that appeals to the Western, as well as Eastern eye.

Geely may well be going international with these offerings, as they plan to offer both gasoline, and diesel models. Diesel models would be an exellent plan, especially for European expansion where a large percentage of drivers prefer diesel models to gasoline. The engines will be Geely self developed models, such as the JL4G18N (1.8l - 175nm/3400-3600rpm - 102kw/6000rpm) and the 4G20 (2.0l engine - 188nm/4000~4200rpm - 108kw/6000rpm), both engines are D-CVVT technology. The diesel engine is also a 2.0l, and produces 286nm at 1800~2750rpm (100kw/4000rpm), in addition its turbo assisted.

The size of the car in the photographs indicates that it may actually look like a small hatchback, but the car actually measures a portly 4635mm (L)×1789mm(W)×1470mm(H), and has a wheelbase of 2650mm.

The platform is Geely’s own designed GBC platform, and can use an engine as small as 1.5l, or as large as 2.4l.

The Ningbo Geely factory has already been prepared for production, and production of the FE series should begin in April.

I heard that the car will be much more expensive than I thought, at least
in Germany.
Starting price will be around 21.000 € and the 1.8 with full equipment costs around 25.000 €.
I don´t know if the prices are for the hatchback or the sedan.

The Chery dealer in Munich, where I ordered my Chery A1 told me that the Geely FC-2 and FC-3 will be available in Germany in mid-2009.
It is possible to order the new "Dihao/Imperial"-Models from 2nd quarter of 2009 and if the GC or SUV models will get into production they are also available through China Automobile Deutschland.
