Lingfeng LF700

Another variant seen at the factory:
The cars in the above post are probably Lingfeng Auto LF700. Lingfeng, about which there is currently no more information, is possibly a second, upcoming brand from Hongxing.

How this came about: I was reading this excellent article about Hongxing Auto on the site "China Car History" by Mr. Sam Faulkner, a noted researcher/writer on Chinese autos. At the end of the article, Mr. Faulkner mentioned seeing some other cars with the badge "LF700" (see pic from the article).

My interest was piqued, so I wanted to contact the writer, and with the help of Erik (thank you!) was able to communicate with Mr Faulkner. I was delighted to receive a prompt reply informing me that those cars badged "LF700" were branded as "Lingfeng Qiche" (in Chinese of course) and had Red Star's logo.

A big thank you to Mr. Sam Faulkner!!

Do-Fluoride Chemical (多氟多化工股份有限公司) and Yantai YEDA Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. ( (烟台业达汽车科技有限公司) set up a 55:45 joint company called Shandong Lingfeng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (山东凌峰智能科技有限公司) in April of 2018.

Yantai YEDA Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. is promoted by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Bureau of Yantai Economic and Technological Development Area (YEDA). It appears that Yantai YEDA Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. is setting up a new energy vehicle and components project in Yantai, a place well known for its auto and ancillary industries, and reportedly Shandong Lingfeng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. is responsible for carrying out this project.

So, Hongxing making Lingfeng cars for the joint venture to sell? A point to ponder.

Capital increase in Lingfeng

In September, DFD announced a capital increase in its new subsidiary "Shandong Lingfeng". DFD and its Yantai-based partner will infuse 260 mn RMB in Lingfeng, in the same ratio as their current stakes, to increase total capital to 300 mn RMB.

In order to promote the development of Shandong Lingfeng New Energy Automobile Industry, a subsidiary of the company, the company plans to invest 143 million yuan in its subsidiary, Shandong Lingfeng.

On September 17, the company announced that in order to promote the development of the new energy automobile industry of Shandong Lingfeng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the company, it was proposed that the shareholders of both parties would jointly increase the capital contribution by 260 million yuan according to the original capital contribution.

Perhaps an effect of the recent withdrawal/curtailment of subsidies. Red Star has indefinitely suspended production, sent most employees on leave, and fired some more. The sales unit reportedly has just three employees now.

In 2018, there were 1,586 registrations of the X2; I have no figures for 2019, but production may have been in the region of 2,000 units (counting from launch). For manufacturers who are solely producing NEVs with less than 400 km NEDC range (i.e. without the benefit of having other, longer-range NEVs in their lineup), it is going to be difficult time going forward. MIIT/NDRC is now increasingly in favor of supporting long-range NEVs and the government's disposition towards lower-range (250-400 km) NEVs and their makers will become more and more "step-motherly", so to speak.

P.S.: Zhidou too has been in a lot of financial trouble lately.
