Thank you DC....
A few observations gleaned from these 2010 stats:

1.BYD's F3DM which had a target of 10,000 units in 2009, sold just 47, jumping to only 417 in 2010. Not very encouraging to new energy proponents.

2. Dongfeng's Mitsubishi-based Futurer MPV continues to ride close to the top of the charts, despite its unchanged appearance for years. It's like the Santana of MPVs.

3. Upstarts Zotye and Hawtai continue to spiral upward leaving Lifan and Soueast in their dust.

Chinese cars are not selling well around the world according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Article from CCT:

Quote:
China maybe produced 18.27 million cars in 2009, but only 2.98% of that made it to foreign ownership according to statistics released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

China exported 544,900 units in 2010, a number that is disappointingly low when compared to other great automotive nations such as Japan, Germany and South Korea, and is also considerably lower than other developing auto markets such as India and Brazil.

The export volume of Germany in 2010 was 4.24 million units, and the export ratio was 76.29 percent. Japan exported 4.37 million vehicles from January to November last year. South Koreaís export volume last year was of 2.77 million units. During 2010 Germany exported 4.24 million vehicles (76.29% of total production), Japan exported 4.37 million vehicles between January and November whilst Korea exported 2.77 million units in 2010.

Indian export volume has been sturdy even during the financial crisis. In the 2009-2010 fiscal year (between April 2009 and March 2010), the country had exported 1.8 million vehicles, growing at 17.90 percent year-on-year. The nationís officials predicted that the export volume in the fiscal year of 2010-2011 will rise 10 to 15 percent. The export ratio of India has surged on to 12.84 percent in the 2009-2010 fiscal year from the 6.63 percent in the 2003-2004 fiscal year. Even India managed to surf the financial hurdles of 2009 and early 2010, from April 2009 to March 2010 India cleared 1.8 million vehicles from its shores, gaining 17.90% in year on year growth, although it should be pointed out that SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) are (in)famous for their notoriously fuzzy car statistics that sometimes include motorbikes and three-wheeled trikes into total car sales.

Chinese exports in 2010 included 282,900 passenger cars whilst 261,900 commercial vehicles were also included. However Chinaís passenger vehicle exports only came to $1.66 billion USD whilst commercial vehicles accounted for $4.75 billion USD due to the average price of exported passenger vehicles sitting at $6,535USD, considerably lower than the $17,800 average for commercial vehicles.

Chinese car manufacturers have had serious problems with exporting their brands to overseas markets before, low up take in Europe can be blamed on ADAC crash tests which made Chinese cars a byword for poor quality and shoddy workmanship, however in the Middle East and Africa Chinese cars have been mostly welcomed in their first steps into the continents, only to have that favorable market entry quickly sour when dealers and importers were unable to follow up with parts and a decent level of service. 2011 is being ear marked as the Ďyear of the Chinese carĎ as with every other year, but due to the amount of over capacity in the Chinese market and the cancellation of favorable low tax rates for sub 1.6L cars Chinese manufacturers might just start looking at overseas markets now that the Chinese golden goose is starting to slow down its egg laying.

Here's an excerpt from a January 14th 2011 article at chinaautoweb.com:
Quote:
....Local companies lead in sales outside China. Chery, Changan, Great Wall, Dongfeng, and BAIC (mainly Foton) were the top five exporters last year, selling 92,000, 65,500, 55,400, 48,000, and 37,300 units, respectively, in overseas markets.

Only 19 units of Chinese cars were registered in Poland in 2010

Data from Interior Ministry's nationwide vehicle registration system (CEP) provided by the IBRM Samar shows, that only 19 units of Chinese cars were registered in Poland in 2010, 6 units more than a year earlier. These data refers to passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy trucks but not include special vehicles like truck crane.

1. Gonow - 6 units
The leader of rank became Gonow, which has official importer in Poland - SUV Polska. Its offer included two models - GA200 pickup and GX6 SUV. Unfortunately, mediaís interest didnít translate into interest of potential customers. The latest information is that SUV Polska has finished its operations, however the official website www.suvpolska.pl is still working.

2. DFM Ė 3 units
Warsawís Auro-Porada company, one of the Tataís dealers, announced that has become the official importer of Chinese brand Dongfeng Motor in Poland from 2 November - according to Magazyn Dealer. An exclusivity was guaranteed through the Yuan Group company, which has excusive rights to represent of Dongfeng brand in the whole Europe. Under the new agreement, Auto-Porada will create new sales network numbering at least 10 dealers by the end of the September 2011.

3. Shuanghuan - 3 units
This brand doesít have an official importer in our country at now. China Automobile Polska had intension to start import of Shuanghuan CEO in 2008, but nothing came for it and company was bankrupted. Several units of CEO were up for sale in Polish Internet, mainly imported from Germany by private by importers.

4. Chery - 2 units
Two Chery models were registered last year - Chery A3 and DR1, small city car restyled in Italy to meet requirements of the local market. A3 model could be produced by the Warsawís FSO, but the strict EURO 5 standard probably was the main reason of finish this project. The company still talks with others investors from Asia.

The remaining 5 units belong to brands:
- ZX Auto (produced in Lublin),
- Landwind,
- Brilliance,
- JAC Motor,
- Sinotruck.

For comparison, 13 models "Made in China" were registered in Poland in 2009, including 4 units of Roewe.

I've noticed Shuanghuan is out of these statistics. Does the company still exists? Or perhaps these statistics don't cover the whole Chinese car market?

You are right PGMJ, the list doesn't include all of the 100+ manufacturers in China. Shuanghuan is a small regional player that once had global plans that seemed to fall flat. This is reinforced by a glimpse at it's website which tells us that it has only old domestic news (2008) to report, and no global news.

We also don't see Fudi, Xinkai, Tianma, Yema, Yunchi, Fuqi, or Dadi.

Automotive Darwinism holds the fate of these small players.
