New Mazda 6 to be showcased in Beijing.

March 25, 2008 - FAW-Mazda said recently that the long-awaited brand new car Mazda6 is set to be showcased in the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April and to hit the Chinese market in December. After the launch of the new Mazda6 in China, the conventional Mazda6 will continue its production for its cut-rate sales to target the wide low-end market.

The new-generation Mazda6 will develop Mazda's maneuvering-enjoyment-centered "Zoom-Zoom" brand design concept, chic exterior look and fashionable interior decorating. Inspired by the current Mazda brand's wide popularity, Mazda engineers will endeavor to feature the bolder design, stronger motive power and more direct chassis tuning in the new Mazda6. The new-generation Mazda6 will come in three distinctive models -- the four-door sedan, five-door hatchback, and wagon.

The new Mazda6 is larger than its predecessor, with highly improved vehicle body quality, delicate seams, and a gorgeous feel of texture. Mazda has made available four new types of engines for its new brand, with the MZR2.5 1.3 L 4-cylinder as the highlight. The design of this new engine, which is based on the previous MZR2.3 1.3 L 4-cylinder, has expanded the bore and stroke, and has improved the intake-exhaust system. These features, among many others, guarantee that the new Mazda will have perfect acceleration, high maneuverability, and accurate rapid-response.

The new-generation Mazda6 will come to the Chinese market in December this year. Following its launch, the new Mazda is expected to target the models priced above RMB 200,000 ($29,000), and meanwhile the manufacturing of the old Mazda will move forward to the market of models priced below RMB 200,000. By that time, both the new and old generations of Mazda6 will be shooting across China.

FAW-Mazda launch 2.0L Mazda in China

The latest generation of the popular Mazda6 was launched in China earlier this year with the Olympic hero Michael Phelphs at the helm of the advertising campaign which showed his powerful swimming stance compared to the Mazda 6’s front end. It’s not entirely clear if his face has lead the new Mazda6 to success in China, however FAW-Mazda are going ahead with the launch of a 2.0L version which FAW-MAzda head man Mr. Hong Yu Jiang claims will sell at least 5000 units per month.

The new Mazda 6 is known as the Mazda Rui Yi in China to distinguish it from the previous Mazda6 which is still in production and is aimed at the price conscious consumer, where as the new Mazda6 (the Rui Yi) is seen as a more premium product. The 2.0L Rui Yi will sell for 176,800rmb to 190,480rmb depending on specification, and comes with a choice of six speed manual or 5 speed automatic gearboxes. FAW-Mazda are boasting that the fuel consumption for the Rui Yi is among the lowest in the 2.0L class, and a top bhp figure of 146bhp and max torque of 184Nm at 6500rpm.

Hopefully the 2.0L Rui Yi will have a bigger strike on the mid size sedan segment than its 2.5L counterpart.
