GAC-Honda is acquiring 100% shares of Honda Automobile (China) Co, Ltd., the export-oriented unit which currently makes the City.

As mentioned in the articles, Honda Automobile (China) used to be a 65:25:10 joint venture between Honda (via two companies), Guangzhou Automobile Group, and Dongfeng Motor Group.

CHAC's products like the Jazz, Accord, and City have always been nearly the same as GAC-Honda's own products for the Chinese market, but sometimes had different powertrains.

GAC-Honda itself is a 50:50 JV between Guangzhou Automobile Group and Honda. Effectively, Dongfeng Motor Group is withdrawing from the tripartite JV.

2018 CHAC Honda City (export)

The CHAC-made City that is exported did receive the facelift last year. This version was launched in Mexico around June 2017.

So effectively, GAC-Honda now makes the City in two visually distinct versions: one for the local market and one for export. The domestic City was not facelifted likely in deference to the Greiz by DF-Honda.

GAC-Honda merges Honda Automobile (China) Co., Ltd. with itself. Honda Automobile (China) [CHAC] will lose separate corporate identity and exclusive export factory status while becoming the fourth assembly unit within GAC-Honda. Besides continuing to produce the City for export, it will start manufacturing the Accord for the domestic market. GAC-Honda already owned 100% of CHAC since 2018 (see post #9).
