Finally, we have the production versions of the New Chassis BJ212. Since it is a major model change with new underpinnigs, new sheetmetal, changed dimensions, and new-ish interior, I've decided to create a new thread for it, so that it does not get lost among the clutter of old BJ212s, Zhanqis, BJ6460s and BJ2020s in the BAW Introduction thread.

We did come across two other versions of the New Chassis in 2019, one with the old body and one with a sleeker body actually shown first in 2018 (see posts #75 and #65 in the BAW Introduction thread). We can now consider them to be prototypes or test platforms for the new chassis.

For the sake of familiarity and tradition, some aspects of the vehicle have not changed such as the front clip, fenders, rear lights and the cubbyhole boot. The interior, borrowed/adapted from the Yongshi, is already found in its sister models, Zhanqi and Jiaodoushi, as well as in the above-mentioned prototypes. The new design of the side windows is also taken from the Yongshi and an instant differentiator from the old model. A few months ago, NDRC changed the enterprise code of Beijing Auto Works, including its Dezhou minicar branch, from "BJ" to "BAW", so any codes/models known to us till now, such as BJ2023, BJ2024, BJ2033 etc. will be known as BAW2023, BAW2024, BAW2033 etc.

The updated range includes four models: 3-door and 4-door with canvas top or hardtop (BAW2033; wheelbase 2460 mm). Additionally, one variant of the old model (BAW2023; wheelbase 2300 mm) has been retained, with 4-door body and traditional "triangle" (actually trapezoid) doors, perhaps keeping in mind the requirements of purists and fans [image for reference].

All five models are powered by the same 1.5T engine.

No website has published pictures of the 3-door New Chassis (production versions) yet; however, I did find a couple of images of what may be a prototype canvas top, photographed in 2019. Note that the rear end is different from the 4-door's (lights, etc.).

An assortment of new BJ212s. Looks like only the 4-door is being produced and delivered at the moment.

Looks like only 2019/2020 models are still in production (I guess others don't meet the national VI standards?)
Do/did any of the BJ212s come with diff locks?

the front wheel of the 2019 models seem to have a hub lock (see photo in link)

but for 2020 it's not there anymore. There seems to be no mention of deff locks at all for BJ212s.

Any ideas?

Specs going back to 2002 civilian models, published by Bitauto, show diff locks to be absent.

Re: the engine room photo seen above

There are some interesting things going on in that engine room?
Should the washer fluid bottle and coolant expansion bottle, both be upright? Should the battery be upright, and level? Should the windshield washer hose be free from interference with the air conditioner hose? Should there be a couple of side to side rods, to supplement that fore and aft rod, seen holding the upper tank of the engine radiator?
Or perhaps it's the camera angle giving me a skewed view.:noway:
