Chevrolet Blazer XL

The Chevrolet Blazer, the stunning American mid-size SUV we can’t buy in India, is soon getting a longer version rumoured to be called Chevrolet Blazer XL. Here’s the first look at the Chevrolet Blazer XL.

The longer Chevrolet Blazer seen here measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,953 mm in width and 1,727 mm/1,732 mm/1,736 mm in height. It has a 2,863 mm wheelbase. The standard Chevrolet Blazer is 4,862 mm long, 1,948 mm wide and 1,702 mm tall and has a 2,863 mm wheelbase. Compared to the regular model, the bigger model is 137 mm longer, 5 mm wider and anywhere from 25 mm to 34 mm taller.

As the wheelbase is not longer, the longer Chevrolet Blazer seen here cannot be called a long-wheelbase version. It can’t be called the 7-seat version either. That’s because it will be sold in two seating layouts: 5-seat and 7-seat. This will be the case at least in China, where the shorter version isn’t sold. As the regular model isn’t sold there, there won’t be ‘XL’ or any other suffix in the name of the bigger model there. Still, to avoid ambiguity, we continue using the ‘XL’ suffix in the story further.

The 5-seat Chevrolet Blazer XL and the 7-seat Chevrolet Blazer XL will employ a 169 kW (229.78 PS) version of the LSY 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine across the range. GM already offers the LSY 2.0-litre engine in the 5-seat Chevrolet Blazer. There’ll be no AWD option in China. There’ll be three tyre options for the longer version: 235/65R18, 235/55R20 and 265/45R21. In North America, GM will likely offer the LGX 3.6-litre naturally aspirated six-cylinder gasoline engine as well.

To make room for the optional third-row seats, GM has extended the rear overhang (by 112 mm) instead of stretching the wheelbase. While the regular Chevrolet Blazer rear overhang measures 999 mm, the same measurement of the longer Chevrolet Blazer is 1,111 mm. The front overhang measurements of the regular and long versions are 1,024 mm and 1,025 mm respectively.
