Buick Lacrosse Hybrid

Buick Lacrosse Hybrid is coming in 2008.

Shanghai GM will launch its Buick LaCrosse hybrid vehicle in Chinese market prior to the Beijing Olympic Games next year, Xinhua News Agency reported.

"The Buick LaCrosse hybrid will be based on Aura Green Line hybrid engine which has been showcased at the Guangzhou Auto Show,” an official from Shanghai GM told reporters.

Equipped with 2.4L Ecotec engine, the Saturn Aura Green Line hybrid is the first hybrid model that General Motors Corporation launched this year. The automaker said the Aura Green Line sedan will deliver at least a 25% fuel economy improvement over the non-hybrid Aura XE for a premium of less than $2,500.

The move will make Shanghai GM the third joint venture automaker to deliver a hybrid vehicle in China following Toyota and Honda. Toyota Motor Corp is currently the only carmaker that builds a hybrid car in China. Honda started to sell imported Civic hybrid in China starting late November.

Last week, China's first local brand hybrid vehicle Jiexun rolled off assembly in Changan Automobile. The hybrid vehicle can save up to 20 percent fuel consumption compared with conventional vehicles and its tailpipe emission can meet EU-IV standards.

SGM recalls Buick LaCrosse for brake problems

Shanghai GM, a joint venture with General Motors, is recalling 7,056 Buick cars in China due to front brake problems, China's top quality watchdog said.

Involved are some of the Buick LaCrosse sedans made between March 10, 2006 and March 22, 2007. "The problem may cause vehicle vibrations in a minority of cases, affecting manipulation and comfort," the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.

Shanghai GM will contact the buyers and repair the problematic parts free of charge. Shanghai GM, the Detroit-based automaker's venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., China's biggest carmakers, also produces the Cadillac and Chevrolet cars.

The joint venture was China's No. 1 passenger vehicle producers last year, with sales of 413,400.

Buick LaCrosse Eco-Hybrid.

General Motors ha announced that it will launch the Buick LaCrosse Eco-Hybrid in the Chinese market. The LaCrosse will not only represent the first hybrid for the Buick brand, but also the first in China’s upper-medium vehicle segment with volume production.

The roll out is the first part of an initiative to give the Buick brand a green image in China. GM is slated to introduce 11 new engines in China between 2009 and 2012 that will offer better fuel economy than its current range of engines. The plan also includes the introduction of vehicles based on GM's EFlex platform after 2010.

“General Motors is pleased to be sharing our advanced technology and energy diversification know-how as part of our overall support of Shanghai GM’s product planning,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “In addition to benefiting the nation’s automakers, the sustainable development of the automotive industry will enable our customers to enjoy a higher quality of life.”

The Buick hybrid reportedly uses a variation of the system found in the U.S.-spec Chevy Malibu Hybrid. Although the system is considered a mild hybrid, it does boost the LaCrosse's mileage to 28 mpg, up from 24. GM doesn't have any plans to bring the hybrid Buick stateside.

May 23, 2008 - Current sales of LaCROSSE Eco-Hybrid might be a loss, but General Motor (GM) is confident of the future development of new energy technology in China, Liu Yuehai, vice general manager of Shanghai GM (GM's Chinese branch) told reporters one month before Shanghai GM launches the Buick LaCROSSE Eco-Hybrid to the market.

LaCROSSE Eco-Hybrid should be an affordable new-energy car, said Liu Yuehai. But it will be a loss to launch LaCROSSE Eco-Hybrid under the condition of small sales and high-technology costs.

For GM, to gain profit from one model is far from important currently. New-energy is a future trend and the earlier for GM to introduce new-energy technology in China, the better for it to have more say and stronger adaptation for the future regulation of the new-energy standard as the development of new-energy technology in China's auto industry now is still in a transitional period.

Shanghai GM has launched the energy-saving and eco-friendly vehicle models of Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet brand successively since GM announced its "Green Strategy" in January this year.

Buick LaCrosse hybrid going on sale for 300,000 yuan.

Shanghai General Motors (GM) will launch its Buick LaCrosse eco-hybrid to the Chinese market this month, with a single 2.4L model priced at 300,000 yuan ($43,969) or less, Beijing News reported yesterday.

The LaCrosse rollout is the opening volley for what Shanghai GM calls its "Drive to Green" program. The LaCrosse eco-hybrid, based on 2007 LaCrosse 2.4L premium version which was sold for 249,800 yuan, is expected to sell for no more than 300,000 yuan.

The hybrids adopt technology similar to Aura Green Line HEV (Hybrid-Electric Vehicle, the first GM hybrid model which sells in the North American market for $22,695, $100 lower than Toyota Prius.

The Buick LaCrosse eco-hybrid is the first mainstream hybrid model for volume production in China's mid- to high-end vehicle segment. According to tests by Shanghai GM, the Buick LaCrosse eco-hybrid can save 15% more fuel than the gasoline version. The hybrids can achieve fuel economy of 8.3 liters/100km, compared with the non-hybrid version's fuel economy of 9.8 liters/100 km.

The Buick Lacrosse hybrid is shaping up to be a hybrid that China Car times could actually drive, and be proud to drive! The 2.4l motor is mated to a hybrid system and is reportedly going to cost 260,990rmb when launched!

Media reports indicate the Buick Lacrosse Hybrid will use an impressive 4l per 100km of travelling, which is on par with the smallest of Chinese kei cars.
