School to get 400 Chinese buses after Asian Games

The state schools under the Ministry of Education are to get about 400 new Chinese made buses shortly.
Anthony Tallant, mass transit director of Mowasalat, of the state-owned transport firm, said currently the buses were being operated for ferrying athletes and others associated with the Asian Games.
The Mowasalat official said that the company had given more than 500 buses to the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (Dagoc). "After giving the 400-odd buses for the schools, the remaining would be utilised for public transport," said Tallant.
Already 400 odd buses, including small ones, are currently being used for the ministry of education.
The small and medium-sized Chinese-made buses have been hogging limelight since their arrival in the country.
The mass transit director said the company was considering operating buses from the end of this month on some new routes.
"We are in the process of identifying those routes," Tallant said, One of the new routes identified was Abu Samra.
Another batch of new routes would be announced towards the end of January 2007, he said.
Replying another question, Tallant said the rainy weather had its effect on the daily income of buses on some routes. "However, by and large, buses are doing well on most other routes these days," he said.

Company promotes safer bus at industry fair

2008-11-4

A BUS with a wireless security system and a black box similar to airplanes was on display at the China International Industry Fair that began yesterday in Shanghai.

Shanghai Transportation Investment Information Technology Co Ltd made the concept bus and said it will be safer than others as its monitoring system will act as a deterrent to people intent on causing trouble, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

Qian Qing, deputy manager of Shanghai Transportation Investment Information Technology Co Ltd, told the newspaper that the buses four cameras will monitor the front, middle and back doors, as well as the driver. Each camera can rotate 360 degrees.

If the driver feels something is wrong, he or she can press an alarm button on the control panel and images from the cameras would be transmitted wirelessly back to a monitoring center, the report added.

“The bus has four eyes,” Qing told the newspaper at the fair at Shanghai New International Expo Center in Pudong New Area. “It’s part of the Carriage Monitor and Interactive System.”

According to the report, the bus looks no different from other buses.

The system was installed on two No. 210 buses in May on a trial basis. The cost for installing the system is about 10,000 yuan (US$1,462) per bus, Qian added.
