PRESS RELEASE

2009 BYD e6

As the latest star in a rapidly expanding portfolio of green, high-tech products, the all-new BYD e6 electric vehicle is being unveiled at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The five-passenger e6 will be marketed as a family-oriented crossover vehicle.

The pure-electric e6 features BYD's revolutionary battery technology - what we call the Fe battery. The range per charge is expected to be a remarkable 249mi (400km). Performance is surprisingly brisk, with 0-60mph (0-100km/h) acceleration in less than 8 seconds and a projected top speed of 100mph (160km/h).

The Right Size
What sets the e6 apart from other pure electric vehicles are its size and performance. With current battery capacity limited, most other manufacturers have elected to focus on small, lightweight EVs that stress efficiency over performance and range.

BYD, as a young brand with a rich history of IT development and cutting-edge battery R&D, has the drive and extroverted personality to take an unconventional approach and manufacture cars that embody the company's slogan, Build Your Dreams. That's the spirit and underlying philosophy behind the e6.

The high-tech e6 boasts the exterior dimensions of a typical American family vehicle, with ample interior space that provides substantial legroom and headroom for passengers, plus a generous luggage compartment. The e6 measures 179.3 inches (4554mm) long, 71.7 inches (1822mm) wide and 64.2 inches (1630mm) tall.

Convenient and Eco-Friendly
The pure-electric e6 is environmentally friendly, eliminating toxic emissions and greenhouse gases while driving. BYD's new Fe battery takes this "green" philosophy a step further: All chemical substances used in the battery can be recycled.

And while the range of many electric vehicles is restricted by their battery capacity, making it inconvenient to travel long distances, the BYD e6, with its high-efficiency Fe battery, can go up to 249 miles (400km) on a single charge. That makes the e6 suitable for daily commutes, around-town chores and even long journeys.

The Fe battery pack in the e6 can be quick-charged to 50 percent of itscapacity in 10 minutes, and 100 percent of its capacity in 60 minutes.

Paying attention to details Re: Byd E6

They are all black.....
Which inverter cables/harnesses are the high voltage ones? Fire, rescue and other people would like to recognize them before handling.
Or is it like melamine...by the time it's detected, it's too late?

daewoo-chevrolet, I don't know, but it sure looks like it's ready for prime time right now. I sure like it's specs and looks and I want an all-electric. My problem is my '08 Lancer GTS only has 34,245 miles on it and I love it. And a certain someone doesn't want any other trade-ins for a long, long, long time!

Man, I looked and this thing weighs some 4,400 lbs. Did I read that right?

And I enjoy it's simple and free-flowing bodydesign. I have my eye on one of these when they come to the U.S. A 249-mile range, if really true, is hard to beat with an all-electric powertrain.

I believe Tesla is saying either their Coupe or Sedan will go 300 miles on a single charge.

i find the car hard to understand

i want to know what the hell a Fe battery is (iron?) and i wonder about the 2 ton weight and 200KW and 550Nm

it's heavy but it has a lot of power

also i don't beleive the 249 mile range... and the 50% capacity charge in 10 mins

to me this is almost science fiction

you would think Tesla and Chevy Volt would be scrapped if these figures were true

BYD always allows the world media to test their cars like the F3DM, BYD even openly displayed the whole stuff at international motors show. It is said that VW even invited BYD engineers over to demonstrate the technology to them then reached a cooperation agreement.

Something to remind everyone of-this car can be 50% "quick" re-charged in only 10 minutes and fully "quick" re-charged in only one hour? Does that sound a tad optimistic to y'all? How much extra money will this "quick"-charger cost in the U.S.? Anyone read anything on that yet?

Also, the 249-mile range has perked up people's ears for sure but there's some real doubting Thomas' out there as to the validity of that, ya know?

Yeah, the quick-charger may not be the way to go with this car. I am still wanting to see someone from a car magazine or car newspaper reporter take this car out and test whether or not it will go 249 miles(or somewhere in that general ballpark)on one battery charge. That means a lot more than quick-charging does to me.

This remains the most appealing new all-electric car to me, though.
