Just two years ago Ningbo Bird, a cellphone maker, gave up its stake in Nanjing Auto's manufacture of the Soyat sedan in its Wuxi Auto Body division.

But now the Shanghai Daily reports that Bird has entered talks with Changfeng Auto for a 50-50 JV to produce the AM-08 a small MPV from early 2007. (Changfeng is the maker that just got back from showing in Detroit)

After bailing out of the NAC venture, Bird had been in talks with Fudi but that doesn't seem to have gone anywhere.

Seems the lure of auto industry profits is still strong in spite of the very crowded field.

They are famous in the mainland for their low quality mobile phones, I would be afraid to take a ride in one of their cars!

A company that comes under, or is related to Bird purchased the manufacturing line for the Ford Zetec engine out of Bridgend Wales and shipped it to china. They intend to modify it to clear IP and then market it to independent car makers in china (they weren't sold the IP, it was a funny story with Ford operations wanting to make a fast buck but Ford China blocking a potential threat).

Potentially a good engine, and would have been a good idea if it could have been lined up to compete with the Mitsi 4g63/64 sales before all the guys like Chery and Brilliance went off and developed their own engine programs.
