Good lighting begets good quality

With poor factory lighting like this, quality really suffers.

Also, lots of worker individuality is evident: some wearing helmets, coveralls, gloves, and some not. This too makes a quality product hard to reach.

I could go on......

Changan Auto unveils new car logo in brand drive

November 01, 2010
Major Chinese state auto group Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, which made its start as a mini van maker, on Sunday unveiled a new logo for its fast-growing passenger car business.

Changan's branding initiative comes as many indigenous players, from Geely Automobile group to Chery Automobile, are trying to broaden their image beyond that of purveyors of affordable but lower quality cars.

"From now on, all our sedans will carry the new V shape logo, including the higher-end sedan we are working on," said Changan President Zhang Baolin.

"Changan's exiting logo will be reserved for our commercial vehicles only," Zhang told reporters on the sidelines of the new logo launch event.

The initiative differentiates Changan's work horse mini vehicles from the more lucrative passenger car business.

Chinese automakers were mostly focused on the lower end of the domestic market, leaving the lucrative higher end to foreign brands such as General Motors and Volkswagen.

But as wealth grows in what is now the world's top auto market, many Chinese manufacturers are working harder than ever to tap the upper end.

Chery Automobile, whose QQ sells for as little as 30,000 yuan ($4,498), unveiled its first premier car G6 under the Riich brand in 2009. Its chairman, Yin Tongyao, hopes the G6 could challenge Volkswagen's Audi A6 some day.

Changan makes small cars, such as the Yuexiang and BenBen. Its first premium model is expected to roll off the production line next year, Zhang said.

In the first nine months, Changan and its parent firm sold 1.71 million vehicles, ranking number four in the country, official data showed.

Company Chairman Xu Liuping has set an ambitious target to sell 3 million cars annually in 2012, rising to 4.5 million units by 2015 and to 6 million by 2020.

FORD PARTNERSHIP

While focusing on their home market, several Chinese automakers are seeking to expand ties with their foreign partners beyond the current terms and conditions.

SAIC Motor and GM set up a joint venture in India, making SAIC's Wuling brand mini trucks and vans, a move that could expand GM's market share in India and give the top Chinese automaker access to a fast-growing neighbouring market.

Changan, a major players in mini vehicles segment, operates a three-way tie-up with Ford Motor and Mazda Motor, making Focus, Fiesta and other models.

Changan and the number two Detroit automaker had also explored joint initiatives overseas, but no agreement has been reached so far, Zhang told Reuters.

"The idea is to use Ford's existing sales network to sell Changan's mini vehicles overseas. But we had never talked about a new joint venture outside China," he added.

"Changan's exiting logo will be reserved for our commercial vehicles only," Zhang told reporters on the sidelines of the new logo launch event.
I'm guessing that Gasgoo made a typo and meant to have Zhang say, "Chang'an's existing logo".

Further, what about the logo below, which was also added not long ago and which I liked very much? Will it disappear?

Changan Alsvin V5 and Star 2 discontinued

According to Changan's new (i.e updated) site, the Alsvin (Yuexiang) V5 car and Star 2 mini-van (SC6382/6399) have been discontinued.

http://www.changan.com.cn/

For the Star 2, from an average of 7900 units per month in 2015, shipments were down to just 90 units in March. Figures for just the Alsvin V5 are not available as all Alsvin model shipments are reported collectively.

Erik, the people were pulling your leg, I guess :) The Star 3 was actually launched only last year and has taken the place of both the old Star (ended in 2014) and the Star 2. It sells 8,000-10,000 units a month - about the same volumes as the old Star and the Star 2 in their heydays. The New Star (now Star 5) does not sell anywhere as close to compensate for either. There is no logic why the Star 3 should be shut down so soon, and that too such a successful product -- anyway you can always look at your production tables for confirmation.

Last year the Chang'an people at the show also told you they had stopped development of any pickups (you mentioned it on this forum) - and now we have the Shenqi F30 and F50 giving us angelic smiles!

Hope you had a nice trip.

Back to Argentina, in 1998, Norinco, an industrial group too know in China, makes a JV with Nakai Japan S.A, and founded a new car brand: "Nakai-Chang'an". And they've assembled on their plant in Alta Gracia, Córdoba, the Chang'an SC1010 pickup truck and a Isuzu NKR based truck called Yantai YTQ-series, with single cab and crew cab. Production of all the vehicles ended in 2002, because the "Corralito" (people who deposited dollars in a bank and if they wanted to take out that money they only recieved pesos argentinos, with minor value) and the Economical Crisis of Argentina in 20 December 2001, making the resignment of the former president Fernando De La Rúa

Chang'an was making little trucks in Argentina...but the plant was closed down in 2001.
But Chang'an was making trucks and mini pick-up's from 1998 to 2002, in Alta Gracia, Córdoba. If I remember good, it was a Joint Venture beetwen Nakai Japan S.A and Norinco.
What about Chang'an? It was assemblying mini trucks in Argentina...the assembly plant was closed down in 2002 and the JV, finally disbanded.
Back to Argentina, in 1998, Norinco ...Production of all the vehicles ended in 2002
Yes, I now have this memorized :) because this is the third or fourth time you have mentioned in this forum Nakai and Chang'an, their Alta Gracia plant and its closure in 2002. These posts are liable to be deleted under Rule 5.
