I'm not liking the quality I see here at the bottom of the instrument cluster or at the rear dogleg pinch seam, etc. If I can see this in photos, what should I expect when I get up close?

I think it is nice to see this car live on, i had a suzuki Swift 1.3 between 1994-2001, it was a good car. That said times have changed and modern cars are much more safer (Suzuki SX4, new Swift, etc)
I dont see what quality issues you are seeing, seems to be fine, try not to nitpick, coz american cars are worst and koreans are no better. If you want perfection go for a Merc or Audi or BMW, then pay the price too.
