From China Car Times:
Kei car fans across China can now really start to rejoice, first it was the the new Alto that Suzuki put into production in China (albeit with Chang-an Suzuki) but the new WagonR is about to be produced in China as well with Suzuki’s other JV partner, Chang He.

It was rumoured that the Changhe car producing venture was soon to be canned in favour of other more profitable ventures, but it seems that may have been a ruse to get Suzuki to further invest in the JV that currently only produces the mark 2 WagonR and the badly in need of replacement Suzuki Liana, whilst Chang-an Suzuki gets all the good stuff (SX4, new Alto, and Swift).

The new WagonR is expected to launch in 2010 with the 2008 Japanese model, which has been a top seller in the Japanese market over the past few months. Although the Japanese model gets a 660cc engine, the Chinese model is likely to get a 1.4L engine and the choice of a 5 speed or 4 speed automatic gearbox.

Oh, I like that WagonR front grille! That's working for me, indeed. And the headlight cluster looks great, too.

It's an ample Scion xB and Kia Soul fighter, from these looks at it. Should work for Suzuki and Chang He for the Chinese market.

love it, love it, LOVE IT!! The Wagon R has always been one of my favorite little cars here in China........for some reason the shape just appeals to me. The front and back seats fold down in such a way that they are completely flat and you can actually stretch out and sleep in this little thing - amazing. My only problem with it was the interior styling - older than my old 1988 Acura Integra.......and less comfortable seats as well. HOWEVER, the new interior is a HUGE improvement, and the styling nicely continues ideas already established with the Swift and new Alto. The new Wagon R just jumped to the top 3 or 4 of my favorite cars in China - great styling, very practical.....and very affordable. Suzuki should sell zillions of them now that it's going to be manufactured here, price wise it will go up against the new Sail, the upcoming Roewe AP6, maybe even the Nissan Micra - and from a value standpoint the Wagon R should step ALL OVER these other cars. You want styling? Take your basic Wagon R, add some nice wheels, lower it a bit, put in a thumping stereo and the usual LED light assortment and you're STILL probably going to spend less money than any of the other cars I mentioned............THAT'S value for you! Congrats Suzuki - home run on this one!

If Suzuki brought this pup to the States I'd consider jumping ship from Mitsu to buying one-if I can get one in black like this. Looks so very, very cool. You're right, jimsteiny-it would need a thumpin' Rockford Fosgate stereo with large subwoofer-but after that it would indeed be road-ready! Love the WagonR from Suzuki! I knew the mini-minivan could be done correctly. Leave it to kei-car specialist Suzuki to properly pull it off! Please, Suzuki, export this pup to the U.S. I'll buy one in black like this one...or in a similar shade of red as my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS pictured here. Suzuki's red would probably be more of a fire engine red-not metallic like on my Lancer GTS-but I'd still consider one in red. I'd probably get one in black, just like this one pictured here. This car rocks big time Suzuki! I think I'm in love...only this time it's a Suzuki and not this...ummm....oh, never mind!
